2K Games Continues the Carnage with The Secret Armory of General Knoxx – the Biggest Downloadable Add-on for Borderlands™

Sydney, Australia– February 24, 2010 – 2K Games announced today that The Secret Armory of General Knoxx*, the third explosive piece of downloadable game add-on content for Borderlands™, is now available for detonation starting today via the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 800 Microsoft Points. The add-on content will also be available on February 25 from the PlayStation®Network and from store.gearboxsoftware.com, Steam and Direct2Drive for Windows PC for $12.95. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx was developed by Gearbox Software and offers scorching new gameplay that expands on the core story of Borderlands, giving gamers even more reason to tout the title as one of the best role-playing shooter experiences ever!

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx picks up right where Borderlands ends – players have discovered and unlocked the alien vault, but now must face the unscrupulous wrath of the vengeful Atlas Corporation and its deadly, death-dealing badass, General Knoxx. With more than 16 million unique weapons (and the help of an Atlas insider), the vault hunters must protect Pandora and save their own necks by destroying the munitions hoard and blow General Knoxx and his Crimson Lance force to kingdom come, but not before reaping the rewards of Atlas’ weaponry stockpile.

“Players have embraced the action-packed mayhem of the Borderlands saga and we made sure that they had plenty to chew on with our first two DLC entries – The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned* and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot*,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “With The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, we continue to deliver on our promise of more Borderlands action by unleashing more ways for our fans to deal out even more raw bloody death and co-op carnage.”

The Secret Armory of General Knoxx is an intense single-player or co-operative entertainment experience that presents the freshest gameplay features known to Borderlands’ gamers.  The Secret Armory of General Knoxx increases the level cap from 50 to 61, introduces new vehicles that allow for four-player off road havoc, explosive combat missions that unlock never-before-seen areas and increasingly difficult challenges, foes dead-set on removing your head from your body, and of course, even more insane weapons.

Borderlands, rated MA15+ is developed by Gearbox Software and is currently available for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot are currently available for all platforms.

Performance Matters: Lenovo Designs Fastest Ultraportable Laptop1 and Smart Business Tablet PC

Five New ThinkPad Products Push Envelope on Value

The News

  • The fastest ultraportable laptop1 – the ThinkPad X201
  • Most powerful ThinkPads with W701 and W701ds mobile workstation
  • ThinkPad X201 tablet – the smart tablet choice for business

Sydney, Australia – February 24, 2010: Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY) today is breaking barriers for thin and light performance with the new ThinkPad X201 laptop, the industry’s fastest ultraportable laptop1. In addition, Lenovo is also introducing four new Think-branded products to give customers a new level of value with more choice, unparalleled performance and greater productivity. These include the ThinkPad X201s laptop, the thinnest and lightest ThinkPad, the X201 tablet, the smart tablet for business users and the powerful W701 and W701ds mobile workstations, the most powerful ThinkPads available.

“We’re continuing to push the envelope on innovation to give our mobile customers faster, more powerful and smarter ThinkPad laptops,” said Chris Kelly, Product and Marketing Director, Lenovo Australia and New Zealand. “These PCs incorporate the latest computing technologies and extra Lenovo features to make the PC experience more simple and productive.”

Ultralight Performance Matters.

At “over three gigahertz and under 1.5 kilograms1,” the ThinkPad X201 packs heavyweight performance into an extremely thin and light design. Unlike competitors that compromise on size, weight, performance or cooling, Lenovo has optimised the X201 for a no compromise experience between mobility and performance. The X201 outclocks competitors in its class by 25 percent1 and includes Intel’s® normal volt Core™ Processors while competitors offer low volt processors. The X201 also gets extremely long battery life with up to 11 hours.3  The new ThinkPad X201s, the X Series’ featherweight fighter, weighs in at under 1.2 kilograms4 and now achieves over 12 hours5 of battery life.

Mobile Workstation Power and Productivity.

For those who need extreme performance and productivity, the new W Series mobile workstations are Lenovo’s most powerful ThinkPads yet. They pair Intel® Core™ i7 Series processors (with Intel® Turbo Boost and Intel® Hyperthreading technologies) with NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800 and 3800 Series GPUs. These technologies help deliver the responsiveness of a workstation in a 17 inch mobile design. The W701 and W701ds are the only 17 inch mobile workstations to feature an optional built-in colour calibrator to help professionals in computer aided design and digital content creation ensure accurate colours are displayed. They are also the only mobile workstations to feature an optional built-in WACOM digitiser and pen to manipulate fine details. The W701 and W701ds are certified to run the most popular applications from independent software vendors, Dassault Systemes CATIA®, SolidWorks,  PTC Pro/E and more.

“Lenovo’s ThinkPad mobile workstations have helped us increase our productivity by 20 percent,” said Alan Duerden, lead systems engineer, McLaren Racing. “We rely on these mobile workstations for determining computational fluid dynamics and rendering high performance graphics to improve the car’s design as well as to support our drivers on the track.”

A Smart Tablet for Business.

Lenovo optimised the ThinkPad X201 tablet for a smart business computing experience. Unlike slate devices designed for consumers, the X201 tablet features:

More than Fingers:

  • 12.1 inch capacitive multitouch screen with a touch-based hardware interface and Lenovo SimpleTap navigation application
  • Dual functionality as a pen or finger-based slate and a full-size laptop with keyboard

Functionality and Productivity

  • Microsoft® Windows™ 7 business operating system optimised for touch
  • Multitasking capability with Flash and Java support
  • The latest Intel® Core™ processors
  • Wide-viewing angle screen for viewing up to 185 degrees
  • Optional superbright outdoor screen
  • Security tools including fingerprint reader, anti-theft technologies, self encrypting hard drives and more

Multimedia and Expandability

  • Noise cancelling microphones, stereo speakers, 2.0 MP camera, 54mm ExpressCard slot for smart card reader, TV Tuner, firewire and other devices
  • 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
  • Optional DVD drive connection through ultrabase or USB port for watching multimedia
  • Expandability with up to 8GB memory, multiple USB ports, 54mm Express Card Slot and more

Unexpected Features. Unprecedented Value.

Lenovo PCs are engineered with the unexpected, extra features that make a difference. These features are practical and simple solutions that make everyday computing more convenient. For example, now the fingerprint reader on the ThinkPad X Series laptops works as conveniently as using an electronic pass for a car going through a toll booth. Users can power on their laptop just by swiping their finger on the fingerprint reader without having to press the power button.

Lenovo is also taking the hassle out of replacing laptop batteries by offering an optional three year warranty on the X Series laptop batteries for peace of mind and less downtime. Strong design and performance go hand in hand, and Think PCs are designed to last. Using the latest technology for strong, lightweight design such as carbon glass fibre on the X201s and the Active Protection System in all the laptops, helps them meet up to eight military specifications to protect against high temperature and humidity environments, shock, high altitude and dust.

Because costs add up, it’s also important to remember the hidden savings energy efficient technology can provide. The new products meet Energy Star 5.0 and Energy Star Server 1.0  requirements and use increased amounts of post consumer recycled plastics.

Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 Brings the Theatre Home

Latest Lapdesk Offers Immersive Audio and Increased Comfort with Integrated Stereo Speakers, Built-in Fan and Padded Base

Sydney, Australia23rd February, 2010 — You’re already using your laptop to listen to music, play games, watch movies, TV and videos. You’re already using it on the lounge and on the bed. But you’re looking for a way to be comfortable, and you know what a difference high-quality audio can make when you’re enjoying good entertainment. For a theatre-like experience on your laptop, Logitech Australia today introduced the Logitech® Speaker Lapdesk N700 —  the company’s first all-in-one laptop accessory with integrated stereo speakers, a built-in fan and a wide padded base.

“More and more people around the world are enjoying fantastic entertainment on their laptops — but with mediocre sound and comfort,” said Denis Pavillard, Logitech vice president of product marketing for laptop accessories. “In fact, according to our research nearly 50 percent of laptop users report being dissatisfied with the sound quality of the built-in speakers. The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 helps transform your laptop into a private theatre in the cozy confines of your lap.”

Unlike most laptop speakers, the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 offers two built-in high-definition speakers with 2-inch high-performance speakers. Specially designed for notebook computers, the stereo speakers are precisely positioned on either side of your laptop to give you rich sound and powerful bass. And, because they connect through a single USB cable, there’s no cable clutter or the hassle of moving and setting up external speakers.

While you’re enjoying entertainment on your laptop, the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 helps keep you comfortable. Whether you’re on the lounge or in bed, the viewing angle of your screen and the padded base help you sit in a more comfortable position. Meanwhile, a quiet, efficient fan circulates air under your notebook, and the heat-shielding design helps keep laptop heat off your legs and lap. Plus, a grill protects the fan from dust and damage, and rear and bottom air intakes ensure steady, unobstructed airflow.

The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 is easy to set up and use, just plug in the single USB cable and play movies, music, online videos, and more in rich, full stereo sound – there’s no software to install and no need for batteries. And to put convenient, independent control at your fingertips, the Speaker Lapdesk N700 offers volume controls for the speakers and an On/Off switch for the fan.

The Logitech N700 is the latest addition to Logitech’s recently introduced range of Lapdesks.  The range includes the Logitech Comfort Lapdesk for Notebooks (SRP $99.95 AUD), Logitech Cooling Pad N100 (SRP $59.95 AUD) and Logitech Portable Lapdesk N315 (SRP $49.95 AUD). These are currently available in retail stores nationally.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 will be available in Australia from late March for a suggested retail price of $149.95 AUD inc. GST.  It will be sold exclusively through Office Works nationwide.

New single player and multiplayer additions enrich the Rapture experience by adding a wealth of new content and features

Sydney, Australia– February 23, 2010 2K Games announced today an aggressive post-launch downloadable content plan for BioShock®2 that extends and enhances the single and multiplayer experiences by adding more glimpses into the award-winning world of Rapture. Downloadable content will be made available soon beginning with the Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, available this March from the Xbox® LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows–LIVE for 400 Microsoft Points and from the PlayStation®Network for $6.95. Future expansions into the world of BioShock 2 are slated to arrive over the coming months and will continue to expand on the stories of the denizens of Rapture.

“The fans who waited in the snow, rain and cold for the midnight launch of BioShock 2 have spoken and their message is that Rapture still has many fascinating stories to tell,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Downloadable content is a key part of our efforts to continue to entice the fans that have made 2K a household name – we intend to deliver single and multiplayer content that respects and expands upon one of the greatest fictional worlds ever created.”

Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, the first of several planned downloadable packages, contains a number of customization features that will allow players to further their character’s development in BioShock 2’s multiplayer modes and provide a deeper multiplayer experience. The pack includes:

  • Rank Increase to level 50 with Rank Rewards

  • A third weapon upgrade for each weapon
  • Five additional masks*

In the coming months, 2K Games will also be publishing downloadable extensions of the single player experience that provide new insight into the world of Rapture. These packages will include more narrative, new tools and new challenges that extend the lore and fiction of the failed Utopia under the sea.

About BioShock 2

BioShock 2’s multiplayer modes provide fans with an engrossing prequel experience that expands upon the fiction of Rapture’s origins. Set during the year before Rapture’s descent into chaos, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a key provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city that was first explored in BioShock. Players will enter into areas from the original title as they struggle to gain superiority and fight for survival in franticly paced battles.

The single player mode serves as a sequel to the original game and provides fans with an unsettling storyline, dazzling visual design and the evolution of the genetically enhanced shooter gameplay. Set almost a decade after a grueling civil war consumed the once magnificent city of Rapture, evil reverberates through the halls and a wickedness once thought gone forever returns along the Atlantic seaboard. An unspeakable series of kidnappings from local seaside communities by an unseen monster leads to the repopulation of Little Sisters in Rapture’s failed utopia under the ocean. Players must step into the boots of one of gaming’s most iconic characters, the Big Daddy, as they traverse through the fallen city, fending off attacks from an army of genetically modified Splicers, while searching for escape and the key to their survival.

BioShock 2 is available now for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows and is rated MA15+ and R16+ in Australia and New Zealand, respectively. NEW PVP AREA, ANCIENT LANDS, UNLOCKED IN JADE DYNASTY

Congratulations to Shura for Being the First Server to Gain Access to the Ancient Lands

February 22, 2010 – Redwood City, Calif. – Perfect World Entertainment Inc., a wholly owned US subsidiary of Perfect World Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: PWRD), today congratulated Jade Dynasty players on the server, Shura, for being the first to unlock the new PvP-oriented area, Ancient Lands. Gaining access to the Ancient Lands required a server-wide effort requiring players to complete a number of daily quests to unlock it. This is a huge accomplishment and to commemorate this milestone, Jade Dynasty players across all servers will now enjoy free double EXP for 24 hours every Thursday for the rest of February.

“We wanted to give recognition to the Jade Dynasty players on the server, Shura, for this milestone accomplishment,” said Andrew Brown, Product Manager for Jade Dynasty. “It’s not every day that a new area is unlocked as a result of a player-wide push and the next chapter in the battle between the immortals and humans.”

As the battle rages on, the protective barrier around the Ancient Lands has begun to deteriorate as a result of the disruption in the universe’s balance. Originally built as a shrine to the Athan gods by the humans, it is rumored to be the origin of immortality. Once a tribute and symbol of the truce between the immortals and humans, the Ancient Lands now becomes next battle ground in the fight for immortality.

Which side will you choose? Will you seize immortality for yourself as a human? Or will you aid the immortals to restore the vital balance that has begun to tear the Ancient Lands apart?

To choose your side or for more information on Jade Dynasty, you can visit the official website at http://jd.perfectworld.com

RADHA MITCHELL Q&A (SURROGATES)

RADHA MITCHELL Q&A

Australian-born actress Radha Mitchell stars as Jennifer Peters in the action thriller Surrogates. The futuristic adventure is set in a world where people live their lives remotely from the safety of their own homes via robotic surrogates: sexy, physically perfect mechanical representations of themselves. It’s an ideal world where crime, pain, fear and consequences don’t exist. However, the utopia is about to be questioned when a murder occurs. The movie is based on Robert Venditti’s hugely successful comic book series. We catch up with Radha Mitchell to find out more…

Were you familiar with the Surrogates comic book series before you started shooting the movie?

RADHA MITCHELL: I was given the graphic novel to read while we shot the movie and I found it enhanced the experience of shooting. The graphics are quite simple in the comic book, but the way this movie has been put together puts the whole thing on steroids. I also found it interesting because my character doesn’t really exist in the graphic novel. Well, she does – but as a man.

Can you tell us more about the movie?

RADHA MITCHELL: I play Jennifer Peters, who is a woman who probably has some kind of personality disorder. She never wants to leave the enclosed reality that she lives in, so she experiences her whole life through a surrogate who is an F.B.I. agent. Peters is pretty by the book. She does things in a very standard way and she annoys the Greer character [played by Bruce Willis] at times because she’s so black and white in her point of view.

Do you like the appearance of your surrogate character?

RADHA MITCHELL: Do I like the look of her? Yes, I do. It was open to discussion as to what she would look like – and everybody had something to say about it. You know what? It was an interesting process to be dissected on that level. Should the teeth be whiter? Should the hair be straighter? It was weird to go through the process of creating a more perfect-looking version of oneself. I guess I’d never experienced that before.

What was it like to work in this surrogate world?

RADHA MITCHELL: It was certainly a challenge for all of the actors in the movie. We had to create a whole environment where it feels like you’re watching robots and not humans, but they’ve got to be engaging enough as characters that you care about what they say. So we manicured our behavior a bit. When it comes to the surrogates, nobody sneezes or nobody farts. Nobody’s got a croaky voice or anything like that. We got rid of certain human traits, which is something we would work out during filming on the day. The director, Jonathan Mostow, would often say, “close your mouth.’ You don’t realize you’re doing certain human things – and you have to edit them out of your performance. It’s a little confusing, fascinating and tricky playing a robot with the same voice and the same movement as your human character, even though the intent and motivation of that robot changes the characterization.

What is the message of the movie?

RADHA MITCHELL: I think what the movie describes is something that we see in culture anyway: that we’re becoming depersonalized and less connected to ourselves. And I think what the movie, celebrates is our vulnerability. I like the way that when you see Greer and his wife come together, he loves her because of whom she is. He doesn’t care what she looks like. He loves her frailty. He loves everything about her; everything that robots try to disguise. He loves all the imperfections – and I think it’s the imperfections in us that expose some of our most beautiful qualities and make us individual. I think that’s very much the message of the movie in many ways.

Surrogates is set in a technologically-advanced world… Are you good with technology?

RADHA MITCHELL: I’m not phobic of technology. I think it can certainly deliver us, give us more time and shift our sense of identity in a positive way. I think what the story directs our attention towards is the notion that we are physical entities as much as we are emotional entities, as much as we are intellectual entities – and we can’t lose that because that’s our basic human trait. We need to engage in the physical world. That’s really essential to who we are.

Are you a fan of the sci-fi genre?

RADHA MITCHELL: I’m a fan of Bladerunner and classic sci-fi films – and I’m in tune with sci-fi, but I wouldn’t say I was the hugest fan of the sci-fi genre. I find many sci-fi films very interesting, though.

Is there much of an Australian community in Hollywood?

RADHA MITCHELL: I guess there is. Do I participate in it? Sometimes I’m involved heavily and sometimes I’m on the periphery. Los Angeles is a huge city and if there’s a network of people who have a similar experience and similar objectives, then it makes sense to be part of that. Embrace it.

The surrogates in the movie are perfected robotic versions of the human form… Did you like your surrogate in the movie?

The surrogates are an enhanced version of your own personal image and I thought mine looked fine, although I might’ve preferred her with slightly longer hair. We had an interesting time preparing for the role because each of the actors was physically dissected and told things like, “You need whiter teeth.” It’s an interesting process because people do that to themselves every day in front of the mirror. They haven’t got studio executives telling them what they should look like, but it was definitely eye-opening for me to realize what people consider to be beauty in modern culture.

Do you enjoy wearing far-out experimental clothes?

I do because I like a bit of drama in fashion. I can be very low key, but if I’m going out to an event, it’s fun to have a fabulous outfit. How would I describe my sense of style? I would say it’s eclectic. If you can have something classic and simple with a modern edge, that always makes a nice outfit. I guess my style depends on what mood I’m in. I’m an actress, so I can be in any kind of mood.

Your mother was a model… Have you ever considered that occupation?

Well, I was a model for about five minutes when I was a little kid. I modeled for a clothing catalog and for a toy company – and it was fun. I think it inspired my desire to be an actress. I prefer to be an actress, though.

What’s it like to see your face on a billboard?

It’s strangely exciting and there’s something surreal about it. It’s fun.

You’re from Melbourne, which is often described as the fashion capital of Australia… Do you agree?

Well, Sydney is a bikini city because it’s warm there. Melbourne is cold, so people have to wear clothes and I guess they have evolved some culture of style. It’s not like New York, but it’s good for Australia.

Are you a fan of shopping or do you prefer clothes to be brought in for you?

If someone can bring me clothes, I prefer that. I don’t know why. Ultimately, do you really want to spend a lot of your life deciding what to wear? I don’t.

Who is your fashion icon?

I really like the style of the French actress Catherine Deneuve. I think she has a classic chic that transcends time. I also like the attitude of Angelina Jolie and I like the way you get to see that reflected in her fashion sense.

Do you watch what you eat?

I don’t eat meat, so I guess that means I watch what I eat. I have always been a vegetarian. Why? Because of ethical reasons and health reasons. There are a lot of reasons.

Are you confident with your body?

I’m fairly confident. When I’m acting, I just get into the role and I don’t focus on myself or my body. When you sit back and think about love scenes, they become really awkward – but when you’re in the midst of them, you just have to live in the scene, so you don’t dwell on it.

What do you miss the most from Australia when you’re away?

I miss home in general. I guess I particularly miss the Melbourne home I grew up in, too. There’s a great sense of history in the place where you grew up. I also miss the pace of Melbourne. It’s a very slow-moving city and a very calm city.

What do you miss about LA when you’re away?

LA is a very dynamic city and the people there are great. The weather is constantly amazing and it’s very easy to live there. I guess I miss that if I’m not there. It never rains in LA, so when it does, it’s magical.

Where in the world is your favorite place to work?

At the moment, my favorite place to work would be LA because it would be lovely to be able to go home at the end of the day. Where else in the world would I like to work? In terms of a great place to work, I would say that Mexico City is a pretty wild place to be. China is another great place. I made a film in India recently and I found Calcutta a really interesting place to explore. When you go to places like that, there is so much to learn after you finish work that it makes it fascinating. There are so many new and exciting things to see.

Where in the world would you most like to work that you haven’t visited before?

If I could set up a movie, that would be nice. Or just Los Angeles will be cool. I would also like to work in Melbourne or New York.

How does it feel to work internationally?

It’s a great experience to be able to travel and work like that. I’m very lucky. I feel like I’ve worked everywhere, so I would also just love to travel to places like Italy as a tourist to get a real feel for countries. I’ve never been to Africa and there’s an island called Lamu that I’d love to visit. It’s off the coast of Kenya and a few people have mentioned this place, so I’d really like to see what it’s all about. I was in Tasmania recently and some guy I met lived in Lamu on a boat with a parrot and a monkey for a couple of months 10 years ago, so it sounded like an interesting place. The whole world is interesting and I hope to be able to see it all over the years.

Bruce Willis is a targeted man in the futuristic thriller Surrogates, released to DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack 3 March 2010!

FBI Agent Tom Greer, played by action star BRUCE WILLIS, risks it all in pursuit of a killer loose in a world where everyone lives their day-to-day lives vicariously through their surrogate robots. Don’t miss this action-packed science fiction thriller, SURROGATES, released to DVD and in the Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack, 3 March 2010.

SURROGATES is set in the futuristic world of 2017, where people live out their lives from home through the use of life-like remote controlled physically perfect replica’s of themselves. In this strange and isolating world, it has meant the creation of a life without fear, pain or crime. But the first murder in years has now shaken the safety of this world to the core.

FBI agent Tom Geer is assigned to the investigation, and given the victim Jarod Canter is the son of Dr Lionel Canter (JAMES CROMWELL), the inventor of surrogates, suspicions of the motive are mounting. But what is even more troubling for Greer, is that Canter’s unexplainable death occurred alongside the murder of several police officers.

Greer and his partner Jennifer (RADHA MITCHELL) are soon led in their investigation to an organisation known as The Dreads; a group devoted to the destruction of surrogates, and their leader The Prophet (VING RHAMES). But while chasing a suspect, Greer is hurt by the same device that killed Canter known as an O.D. (Overload Device). Discovered by his wife in his home, Greer is lucky to survive but his surrogate is permanently damaged.

Greer must now continue the investigation without the use of his surrogate, a strange and unsettling experience after years of shelter from the outside world.

Soon after, the investigation takes another twist with the discovery that the O.D. was originally designed by the military. But with the weapon still out there, the path to truth becomes more complex and dangerous for Greer as he is lead back towards Dr Canter in his pursuit of the truth.

With the lives of all users of surrogates dangerously at stake, Greer uncovers a shocking conspiracy that will have you on the edge of your seat right up to the final climax.

With a brilliant hard-edged performance by BRUCE WILLIS, and in tune with the classic science fiction genre established by Philip K. Dick with Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, SURROGATES is an action packed DVD not to be missed this summer.

Surrogates – FACTOIDS

  • First-time author Robert Venditti came up with the unique premise while working at Top Shelf Publications in their shipping warehouse in suburban Atlanta.

  • SURROGATES” was filmed on location in Massachusetts, primarily in Boston and surrounding suburbs.

  • In addition to mounting the film in several neighborhoods around Boston—the Leather District, the Financial District, the South End, Chestnut Hill, and the home of his alma mater, Cambridge, among them—director Jonathan Mostow also filmed in such Boston suburbs as Worcester, Taunton and Hopedale.

  • Studies led the film’s scripters to a Japanese scientist named Hiroshi Ishiguro, who has been using a plastic version of himself to lecture around the world without leaving his Osaka office. They also uncovered a rhesus monkey in North Carolina that has been wired to make a robot in Kyoto walk, merely by thinking.

  • The actual robotic look of the main cast and hundreds of extras appearing in the film came to life through the combined efforts of the film’s two makeup departments—the key makeup under the guidance of Oscar®-winner Jeff Dawn (“Terminator 2: Judgment Day”), and the special prosthetic designs courtesy of another Oscar winner, Berger (“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”).

  • Some of Howard Berger’s unique designs included the crucified corpse of the surrogate Greer after it’s destroyed; shotgun wounds that graphically reveal the mechanical innards of the robotic doubles.

  • Director Jonathan Mostow directed “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which earned $450 million in global receipts in the continuation of one of Hollywood’s most fruitful franchises.

  • The Surrogates Blu-ray contains the DVD extras plus exclusive bonus features that go into the heart of the film’s intriguing premise:  A More Perfect You: The Science of Surrogates, Breaking the Frame: A Graphic Novel Comes to Life, and Four Deleted Scenes

  • In addition to his film and television work, director Jonathan Mostow also recently created, for Virgin Comics, The Megas, a four-issue graphic novel series set in an alternative reality, in which the United States is ruled by a monarchy.
