Title Establishes New Entertainment Record Surpassing US $401 Million in First 24 Hours of Release

Sydney, AUSTRALIA (April 22 2010) – Guinness World Records, the global authority on record-breaking, today confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision/Infinity Ward, 2009) became the most successful entertainment launch of all time when it released on November 10th, 2009.  With verified one day sales totalling more than $401.6 million (AU $434 million),  worldwide, the action-packed first-person shooter video game was the fastest selling entertainment product in its first 24 hours on sale, breaking the Guinness World Record previously set by the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Shattering all entertainment launch records set by box office, book and album sales, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 blew past the record-setting video game launches of Grand Theft Auto IV, which grossed $310 million (AU $335 million) in its first day on sale in 2008, and the previous record-holder, Halo 3, which took in $170 million (AU $184 million) its first 24 hours on sale.

“Video game releases such as the Call of Duty series have outperformed the launches of major Hollywood blockbusters for several years and the day-one sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 proved once again that video games have become cultural events in their own right,” said Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition Editor, Gaz Deaves.

“The fan movement and hype surrounding this game in the run-up to launch was almost unprecedented in scale; we acknowledged early on that the big question wasn’t if it would break all-time entertainment records, but rather by how much.”

“This achievement is a reflection of the support from our community of fans around the world,” said Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling from developer Infinity Ward.  “The Call of Duty series and Modern Warfare have been our passion – we’ve dedicated our lives to giving our best, so it’s an honour to be recognised by setting a new standard among all entertainment properties.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is rated “MA” by the the Australian Classification Board for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Language.  The title is developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI)  The first series of new multiplayer maps, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package is now available on Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network.

  • § 26-year-old Frenchman will compete in the European GT Cup

Silverstone – Wednesday 21 April, 2010 – Jordan Tresson has been announced as the winner of GT Academy 2010. The 21-year-old Frenchman completed a short head-to-head test today on Silverstone’s new Grand Prix circuit against friend and rival Luca Lorenzini. The pair drove five flying laps each in the 420bhp Nissan 370Z GT4 race car that Tresson will now campaign in the 2010 European GT Cup series.

The announcement of Tresson’s victory is the culmination of a process that started in December 2009 when the GT Academy time trial went live across 17 countries. Over 1.2 million people downloaded the special version of the Gran Turismo game on PlayStation®3 to enter the completion. The fastest twenty from each country then competed for their chance to attend the five-day international final, the GT Academy ‘boot camp’ at Silverstone. Jordan and Luca were chosen as the best of the 18 Academy finalists by judges Johnny Herbert, Eddie Jordan, Sabine Schmitz and Rob Barff. An intensive six-week period has seen them racing at various UK club races each weekend to qualify for an International C Race Licence. Both obtained their licences last weekend and headed to Silverstone for the test session to decide who would win the ultimate prize.

Portable Audio for Your Laptop: Logitech Announces Speaker

Portable Audio for Your Laptop: Logitech Announces Speaker

Designed for Netbooks and Laptops

Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 Delivers Big Sound for Small Computers

SYDNEY, Aust., — April 21, 2010 — Laptop and netbook computers are portable and powerful enough to do everything you love such as enjoying music, movies and video calls. But as computers have gotten smaller, audio quality has often been sacrificed. To enhance the audio quality of your favorite tunes and movies, today Logitech Australia announced the Logitech® Laptop Speaker Z205 — a lightweight speaker with an easy-to-attach clip-on design that lets you pump up the volume wherever you take your laptop.

“While people love the portability of their laptop computer, they are often missing out on the immersive listening experience that external speakers provide,” said Mark Schneider, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s audio business unit. “When designing the Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205, we wanted to help people get better audio while enjoying their favorite shows or music without sacrificing portability. The Laptop Speaker Z205 is tiny enough to toss in your bag, but delivers big sound.”

Whether you use a Mac® or a Windows®-based laptop or a netbook, the Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 securely attaches to the top of most laptop screens. The Laptop Speaker Z205 is also small — approximately 3cm thick and 6cm  tall — which means you’ll always be able to take it with you. And the included carrying case protects your speaker while inside your briefcase or backpack.

Now, when you’re watching your favorite show, listening to the radio, or making a video call, you’ll enjoy rich, full stereo sound thanks to two high-performance drivers, a built-in amplifier and an acoustically tuned enclosure. And you can easily adjust the volume as well as turn the speaker on and off using the buttons located on the top of the speaker. The included USB cable is all you need for power and audio — there’s no need for an external power supply — so simply plug the Z205 into your computer and start enjoying your entertainment.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205 will be available in Australia from the end of May for a suggested retail price of AUD $69.95 inc GST .
