ONCE ALICE FALLS DOWN THE HOLE, THE MAGIC BEGINS!

ALICE IN WONDERLAND RELEASED TO DISNEY DVD AND  BLU-RAY 1 JULY 2010!

In one of the most anticipated DVD releases of 2010, TIM BURTON brings to extraordinary life one of the most celebrated stories of all time when ALICE IN WONDERLAND is released to Disney DVD and in a Blu-ray TM /DVD Value pack, 1 July 2010!

In a modern twist to the fabled tale, Alice (Australia’s own MIA WASIKOWSKA) is a grown woman of 19- years trapped in a world of stifling etiquette and still struggling with the death of her adventurer father Charles. As a child her barmy dreams of a place called Wonderland would be consoled by her father; yet even now Alice feels like she does not belong in the real world.

About to be proposed to in a lavish garden party by Hamish (LEO BILL), son of her late father’s business partner, the ‘madness’ begins again when Alice inexplicitly sees a rabbit in a waistcoat. Giving chase, Alice falls down a hole, again about to re-enter that magical, mysterious and dangerous world known as Wonderland.

Once  shrunken to fit through a small door at the bottom of the hole, Alice is greeted in Wonderland by the White Rabbit (MICHAEL SHEEN), the Dormouse (BARBARA WINDSOR), a Dodo bird (MICHAEL GOUGH), and the Tweedles (MATT LUCAS), all of whom are unsure as to whether they have the found the ‘right’ Alice.

The decision is made to take Alice to Abosolom the Blue Caterpillar (ALAN RICKMAN) to consult the scroll that contains the history of Wonderland. Abosolom advises that the scroll reads that on the Frabjous Day, Alice will slay the Jabberwocky; something Alice immediately declares not possible!

But before anything further can be determined the Knave of Hearts (CRISPIN GLOVER) and the red-carded soldiers arrive with a beast aptly named a Bandersnatch, causing everyone to run. Alice, believing she is still in a dream, stands her ground and is badly scratched, saved only by the Dormouse who pokes the creature in the eye, plucking out one of the eyeballs.

Now in possession of the scroll, the Knave of Hearts informs the Red Queen (HELENA BONHAM CARTER) about the prophecy of Alice killing the Jabberwocky, the most powerful creature in the land and the key to her reign.

Alice, continuing her journey into Wonderland, encounters the Cheshire Cat (STEPHEN FRY) and the Mad Hatter’s (JOHNNY DEPP) who is overjoyed to see her, knowing that Alice is the best chance to end the Red Queen’s terror across Wonderland.

But when the Hatter is captured, Alice enters the Red Queen’s court unrecognised, advising the queen she is actually ‘Um’ from Umbridge, to attempt a daring rescue. It is here that Alice discovers the whereabouts of the vorpal sword, the mystical instrument needed to slay the Jabberwocky.

With Alice’s identity discovered, she escapes with the sword to the White Queen’s (ANNE HATHAWAY) castle on the eve of Frabjous Day, and the scene is set for the battle for the liberty of not only Wonderland, but for Alice’s ability to return to the real world.

About Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction:

Sam Fisher returns as a fugitive and enemy of the state. Now Sam is being ruthlessly hunted by the very government he served, and the friends and colleagues he once knew may have masterminded the entire plot. Working outside Third Echelon puts Sam in the uncomfortable position of having to obtain vital resources via different means (aka the underground black market) as he learns to use the environment around him to his advantage.

Where light and shadows were key to gameplay in the original Splinter Cell, stealth action and improvisation help drive Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction, making it an adrenaline rush of blood-pumping chase sequences, close combat, crowd interaction with real-world dynamics and intense gun battles.

AVG Researchers Identify Massive Propagation of Rogue Applications through Social Network Application

AVG Warns Adware Uses Subterfuge to Entice Facebook Members to Click

Melbourne, 18 May 2010.  AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd today revealed research by AVG Technologies into a very aggressive, expansive push by rogue applications on Facebook this past weekend. AVG researchers indicated that from midnight to 9am EST on Saturday, 15 May 2010, AVG software detected and blocked more than 300,000 rogue applications. That rate was more than three times the rate of the number two for the day for rogue anti-spyware.

“This latest issue really underscores how powerful, while at the same time vulnerable, social networking applications are. This attack was actually stunning in terms of scale,” said Roger Thompson, AVG’s Chief Research Officer. “Facebook is very responsive to threats when we identify them, removing these applications as soon as they find them, but the rogue applications are still able to generate huge traffic, just because of the viral nature of social networks. It is staggering how many threats were propagated before they were stopped.”

Ironically, the attack, which offers a picture of a girl in a bikini to entice the victim to install an adware-supported viewer, was not viral according to AVG researchers, and was first seen in different forms last week. AVG’s system is set to alert the research team when certain nefarious behaviours and activities are detected.  By 9 am EST, AVG’s servers had detected more than 200,000 of this particular threat. By comparison, the second highest detection at that same time was about 24,000 of a particular rogue anti-spy, so at one point, this push was nearly ten times the number two detection.

Last week’s rogue push peaked at about 80,000 for the day, and had dwindled to just a couple of hundred per day by Friday, May 14, 2010. At that point AVG researchers were hopeful that the adware attack would cease; however, all indications point to the fact that they were just gearing up for a fresh start… and a powerful one at that.

Thompson added, “Interestingly, they launched it on a Saturday. I guess they figure we don’t watch on the weekend, but malcode researchers are all cut from the same cloth as Inspector Gadget… we’re always on duty.”

Lloyd Borrett, Marketing Manager of AVG (AU/NZ), said:  “We recognise the power that social networking brings to our professional and personal lives and we certainly don’t advocate giving up on the technology altogether. However, AVG does have some recommendations on how to best protect yourself.”

  • Make sure you practice safe surfing. AVG LinkScanner® safe search and surf protection is a free web tool that can identify threats in real-time and let you know if a page or link is poisoned, before you click.
  • If you ever have to install a viewer to watch a video, something is probably not right. Go to the video player application’s official website and download the application there. Never download through a link.

Borrett advised, “As with any online activity be smart, be aware, be careful, and you can stay as safe on Facebook as anywhere else online.”
