Celebrate Victoria’s Croatian community at the Immigration Museum

A one day festival celebrating Victoria’s Croatian community will be held at the Immigration Museum on Sunday 27 June, 2010.

Visitors to the Croatian Festival will be able to enjoy Croatian culture and traditions, including food, music and dance performances and family activities while learning more about Croatian migration to Melbourne and Victoria.

Come along to the Immigration Museum to meet the community and take part in activities on the day:

  • Brush up on your soccer skills in a mini soccer comp.
  • Sample tasty Croatian food, including cevapi, cabbage rolls, seafood, palacinke, cakes and Croatian beer.
  • Watch traditional dance and singing performances.
  • Take part in a Croatian dance or language workshop.
  • Watch a cooking demonstration and Croatian films.
  • Colour in some paper pals with the kids.
  • See traditional Croatian clothes, textiles, embroidery, weaving and other handmade crafts.
  • See photographs, talks and displays to learn more about Croatian history, culture and migration.

In 2001, the census recorded 18,900 Croatia-born people living in Victoria, primarily in Melbourne and Geelong. The first group of Croatian immigrants came to Victoria after the discovery of gold in 1861 and one third of this group eventually settled in Melbourne. By 1890 there were 450 Croatians living in Victoria. During the 1920s, Croatians settled in Mildura and worked in the fruit growing industry. Mildura was soon known as ‘little Medjimurjie’, named after an agricultural region of Croatia where many of the workers had been born.

Substantial numbers of Croatians came to Australia as displaced persons after World War II and during the 1960s and 1970s due to high unemployment, deteriorating economic conditions and anti-Croatian sentiment in Yugoslavia. A number of Croatian refugees came to Victoria during the 1990s, escaping ethnic conflict in Yugoslavia. Victoria’s Croatian community subsequently took part in celebrations when Croatian independence was recognised in 1992, and when Croatia became a member of the United Nations during that same year.
The Croatian Festival is one of three cultural festivals developed annually by the Immigration Museum in collaboration with Victoria’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

KNIGHTS CONTRACT’ TO BRING ITS BRUTAL AND SPECTACULAR FANTASY HORROR TO AUSTRALIA

– Cruel Violence and Savage Sorcery in NAMCO BANDAI Games’ Brand New Action Adventure, Coming to PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® in 2011 –

SYDNEY, Australia – Tuesday 25th May 2010 – NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. today lifted the lid on fantasy horror title Knights Contract, its newest 3rd person action adventure title scheduled for an Australian launch in 2011 for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®.

A period action adventure set in the days when a healthy paranoia about witches was considered de rigeur, Knights Contract follows the tale of Heinrich, a cursed executioner of witches, and young girl Gretchen, a reincarnation of a witch whom Heinrich previously had the job of be-heading and who returned the favour by cursing him eternally.

When a stupendously evil and deadly threat descends on the earth, Gretchen, having had her young life curtailed once already, decides she is less than enthusiastic about seeing it ended again so soon. She decides to tackle the threat head-on by putting her curse on Heinrich to good use, enlisting his business-like and highly effective executing abilities to help curb the supernatural blood lust of their foes.

Nothing is so easy of course, and a lot of blood and its supernatural equivalent needs to be spilled before order can once again be restored to the land.  Razor sharp scythes and explosive sorcery are your spectacularly effective weapons in a twilight world where you’re never more than a stone’s throw from someone, supernatural or otherwise, who would rather see you six feet under.  It’s time to let the combos fly and lay waste to the hordes of darkness with a liberal dose of medieval panache.

Sydney, Australia: 25 May, 2010 – Fujitsu PC Australia released the stylish Fujitsu LifeBook P770. This LifeBook is ideal for frequent travellers and busy professionals. All great qualities to be your personal companion, it’s mobile, durable and fully functional.

COMPACT AND ULTRA-LIGHT
Oozing style and elegance, the LifeBook P770 boasts ingenious engineering that impresses with pleasant aesthetics and great functionality. Weighing the needs of consumers who seek ultimate mobility, the earnest engineers from Fujitsu have conjured the ultra-portable notebook that weighs about 1.4kg, can be easily slotted into your carrying bag.

ULTRA RELIABLE COMPANION
Tailored to the needs of consumers who are frequently on the move, the LifeBook P770 is designed to lay those nagging travelling woes to rest. To enhance the notebook’s durability, the P770 boasts a magnesium cover which is light from cover to base. With the main board attached to the notebook’s keyboard side, outward pressures are prevented from being directly transmitted to the internal parts, hence protecting the components of the LifeBook P770.

Yet another thoughtful feature from Fujitsu is the spill-resistant keyboard to protect the motherboard from accidental spills. Couple this with the Fujitsu 3D Shock Sensor which uses an advanced 3D accelerometer to protect against damage to the hard disk from vibrations and shocks, and you have a notebook that provides a complete peace of mind.

The LifeBook P770 also empowers you with a superior battery life of up to 6.5 hours with further extension of up to 1.5 times if the ECO button is utilised. With a single touch, activating the ECO button instantly switches the P770 to a power saving mode for low power consumption tasks like simple Internet surfing or playing your favourite songs. Rushing between meetings or travelling overseas on a long haul flight will now be made with greater ease and convenience.

CRYSTAL CLEAR DISPLAY
Providing visual quality as stunning as its design, the LifeBook P770 is fitted with a 12.1-inch bright SuperFine WXGA back-light LED screen with 300nits brightness, offering superb viewing comfort while working indoors or outdoors. Together with the HDMI output connector, consumers can now experience high definition excellence at their fingertips.

COMMUNICATE AT EASE
Understanding the importance of communication amongst business professionals, the LifeBook P770 is equipped with a built-in 2.0 Mega Pixel camera and microphone for smooth and seamless communication through optimized Voice-Over Internet Protocal (VoIP) anywhere, anytime; ideal for professionals conducting urgent video-conferencing while on the move.
