The Last Song: a film about first love, forgiveness and the moments in life that really matter; released to DVD 4 August 2010

MILEY CYRUS comes of age in the touching and heart wrenching DVD release of THE LAST SONG; coming to DVD and Blu-ray 4 August 2010.

Based on the novel of the same name by acclaimed author NICHOLAS SPARKS, THE LAST SONG follows the plight of seventeen year old Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Miller (MILEY CYRUS) as she negotiates a summer in the Georgian home of her estranged father Steve (GREG KINNEAR), and along the way discovers the joys, perils and pain of an adult awakening.

Having not spoken to her dad since his painful divorce from her mother Kim (KELLY PRESTON), Ronnie and her younger brother Jonah (BOBBY COLEMAN) make the journey to the quiet beachside town of Tybee Island to reconnect with their dad over the summer.

A once successful Juilliard School professor and concert pianist, Steve is devoted now to a quiet life and the repair of the local church’s ruined stained glass window after a fire he believes he caused. Silent about his battle with cancer, his focus now is also to mend his battered relationship with his kids.

With a rebellious reputation behind her, Ronnie’s anger and hostility towards her parents and the world around her is clear. Once a child pianist prodigy under the tutorage of her father, Ronnie has been channelling her frustrations by partying in New York with her friends, a place she would much rather be than Tybee Island.

But when she meets heartbreaker Will (Australia’s own LIAM HEMSWORTH) while getting involved in the protecting of a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest, Ronnie’s world begins to turn around.

As Ronnie’s life begins to slow down she finds herself falling in love, and the healing process with her dad also begins through their shared passion for music.

Sadly, Steve does not have much time as his body succumbs to the cancer he has been fighting, and with time disappearing fast Will confesses the secret that is burning inside of him. The church was not caused by Steve but by a friend of his. Ronnie is furious, and although her dad is forgiving, she does not want anything further to do with Will.

With the sun setting on summer, Ronnie decides to stay with her dad through to the end while her mother and brother head back to New York. Having now rediscovered her enthusiasm for piano and a refreshed desire to study at the Juilliard School, Ronnie decides to assist Steve with completing what will be his LAST SONG before his passing.

Steve’s fight is soon over and Ronnie packs up Steve’s belongings, including his piano, and heads back to New York.  But pushing away her feelings for Will is not something so easily done. It is with Will’s love, and a return to music through the memory of her dad, that a new verse in Ronnie’s life begins.

THE LAST SONG on DVD and Blu-ray is a must-own for any family and includes fabulous extras; The Miley Cyrus music video, ‘When I Look At You’, the making of the video, outtakes and audio commentary. Special features on Blu-ray include all this plus deleted scenes and an alternative opening sequence!

THE LAST SONG is sure to be a film to share with your loved ones when it is released 4 August 2010 on DVD and Blu-ray.

SEAGATE BREAKS CAPACITY CEILING WITH WORLD’S FIRST 3 TERABYTE EXTERNAL DESKTOP DRIVE

New FreeAgent® GoFlex™ Desk External Drive Packs Unprecedented Amount of Storage for both Mac and PC

SYDNEY, Australia —June 30, 2010 — Putting more terabytes in the hands of consumers worldwide, Seagate (NASDAQ: STX), the leader in hard drives and storage solutions, today announced the world’s first 3 Terabyte (TB) external desktop drive. Available immediately, the 3TB FreeAgent® GoFlex™ Desk external hard drive helps to meet the explosive worldwide demand for digital content storage in both the home and the office. With 3TB of capacity people can store up to 120 HD movies, 1,500 video games, thousands of photos or countless hours of digital music.

A key addition to the company’s recently introduced GoFlex™ family of hard drives, the 3TB GoFlex Desk external drive couples immense capacity with the flexibility to adapt the drive’s USB 2.0 interface to a USB 3.0 or FireWire® 800 connection to meet varying performance and transfer speed needs. Consumers can easily create, store and access content from either a Windows® or Mac OS X computer on the GoFlex Desk external drive, thanks to an included NTFS driver for Mac.

“Consumer capacity demands are quickly out-pacing the needs of business as people continue to collect high-definition videos, photos and music,” said Dave Mosley, Seagate executive vice president of Sales, Marketing and Product Line Management. “Seagate has a tradition of designing products that break into new storage frontiers to meet customer requirements and the 3TB GoFlex™ Desk external drive is no exception–delivering the highest-capacity storage solution available today.”

A recent report by Parks Associates indicates the average consumer household will see its digital media storage needs grow to nearly 900GB by year-end 2014, driven in large part by video downloads, managed copies of Blu-ray disc, and increasing use of DVR recording capabilities[1]. The GoFlex Desk external drive delivers unconstrained[2], high-capacity storage and automatic, continuous backup with software file encryption to help keep all data safe and secure[3]. The standard USB 2.0 interface can be upgraded to USB 3.0 or FireWire® 800 by coupling the drive with the appropriate GoFlex™ desktop adapter to increase file transfer performance by up to 10x for easier copying or sharing of files[4].

“As the definition quality of digital cameras increases, playback devices such as digital photo frames and MP3 players proliferate and the use of the Internet for downloading music and video continues to grow, more files accumulate in the home,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president and principle analyst of Parks Associates. “Consumers who are active in digital media creation and consumption will witness their digital media storage needs grow nine-fold by 2014, driving the demand for higher capacity, easy-to-use storage solutions.”

The GoFlex Desk external drive is compatible with both the Windows® operating system and Mac® computers. Each drive includes an NTFS driver for Mac, which allows the drive to store and access files from both Windows and Mac OS X computers without reformatting. The NTFS driver is simply installed once on a Mac computer, allowing it to read and write files on a Windows formatted[5] drive. Its sleek black, 3.5-inch design sits either vertically or horizontally to accommodate any desktop environment.

The 3TB GoFlex Desk external drive with USB 2.0 adapter can be purchased through select retailers and resellers for $499 AUD and $579 NZD.

SUPER 8 – Teaser Trailer for J.J. Abrams’ top secret Spielberg homage

The trailer for J.J. Abrams’ (Star Trek, Alias, Lost) secret project first caused a stir when it was attached to the theatrical release of IronMan 2, and now a high-res version has made it online. Few seemed to have heard of the film – to be written and directed by Abrams and produced by Spielberg – probably because it has yet to be shot.

Wikipedia describes the trailer:

There are Subtitles, they say “In 1979 The US Air Force Closed A Section of Area 51” and “All Materials Were To Be Transported To A Secure Facilty In Ohio”. Then a truck crashes through a train barrier and speeds mindlessly down the tracks derailing a train. After the crash the train’s cars are spread across the landscape. One of the car’s doors is being hit from the inside, something is apparently trying to get out. The last part of the trailer shows a super 8 film reel, the last slides read, “The Scariest Thing I Ever Saw”.

They seem to be going for a Cloverfield-style marketing campaign here for a film that promises to be a throwback to Close Encounters-era Spielberg (which this trailer clearly evokes), combined with Abrams’ whiz-bang storytelling.

This trailer was shot separately in April and principle photography is due to commence in the 3rd quarter 2010 for a mid-2011 release.
