Cast Announced For Australian Thriller, The Tunnel

SYDNEY, July 23 2010…Distracted Media’s Australian producers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey today announced the cast line-up for their locally produced film, The Tunnel. Set in and amongst Sydney’s underground tunnels, The Tunnel has become Australia’s most talked about thriller. The movie follows a news film crews’ journey into Sydney’s underground hunting for a story, until the story starts hunting them.

Andy Rodoreda from Sydney has been cast as News Producer, Peter Ferguson. Andy Rodoreda is best known for his starring role in the Australian horror movie, Black Water and for his work on Australian TV dramas including Blue Heelers and East West 101.

Bel Delia, formerly of the Northern Beaches, now an Inner Western suburbs local (Balmain, Sydney), has been cast as TV journalist, Natasha Warner. Bel Delia was awarded Best Actress honours at Tropfest 2010 for her comedic role in “The Last Roll of the Dice”.

Luke Arnold, a former Sydney resident and now Melbourne local (Frankston/Mornington Peninsula, Victoria) is a hot newcomer with acting credits including Steven Spielberg’s “The Pacific”, “Broken Hill” and “Rescue: Special Ops”. Luke Arnold has been cast as sound recordist, Jim “Tangles” Williams.

Steve Davis of the North Shore (Sydney) has been cast in a move towards authenticity as TV crew cameraman, Steve Miller. Steve Davis’ documentary credits include countless overseas postings and documentary credits for Discovery Channel and National Geographic.

Goran Kleut, a Eastern Suburbs (Randwick, Sydney) local, has been cast as the animalistic ‘Stalker’. Goran Kleut is well known for his various film and television credits including Gabriel, Sea Patrol and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Ben Maclaine, an Inner Western suburbs resident (Lilyfield, Sydney), has been cast as the Security Guard. Ben Maclaine is well noted for his various acting and voice-over work in Australia.

James Caitlin, a former Dubbo local and now a lower Blue Mountains (Richmond, Sydney) resident, has been cast as homeless man, Trevor Jones. James Caitlin is known for his various film, theatre and television credits including roles on White Collar Blue and Home & Away.

“We are thrilled to have cast a talented line-up of local Australian actors to bring The Tunnel to life under the direction of Carlo Ledesma. The cast has strong chemistry that we can’t wait to see translated onto the screen,” said Julian Harvey.

Already attracting international and local attention for its unconventional funding and release model, The Tunnel will be directed by Philippines born and now Homebush Bay (Sydney) based, Carlo Ledesma.

Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey, are choosing to break with the traditional movie channel release model and will distribute the locally producer thriller through controversial internet piracy networks in a bid to reach out to the increasingly dominant online audience.

The movie’s website launched in June 2010 at www.thetunnelmovie.net and the innovative plan is to raise the movie’s cash budget of $135,000 by selling a frame of the movie for $1 to the internet audience (the concept is based on a 90-minute film consisting of 135,000 individual frames). Slated for release later this year, the movie will be made available online worldwide, for free.

“We believe that if we stop fighting the peer to peer networks and find a way to work with them, they could become the biggest revolution in the way we connect with an audience,” said Enzo Tedeschi.

Paramount are going nuts in promoting the Aussie adaptaion of John Marsden’s young adult novel Tomorrow When the War Began.

The World Premiere kicks off a national publicity tour for ‘TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN’ including premiere screenings in Melbourne at Hoyts Melbourne Central on Wednesday 11th August and a Queensland premiere at The Australian International Movie Convention on the Gold Coast on Sunday 15th August.

Stuart Beattie, whose screenwriting credits include Australia, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral, wrote the screenplay and will make his directorial debut on ‘TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN’.

Synopsis:

Industry veterans establish studio to capture emerging social and mobile gaming markets with games made by women, for women

VANCOUVER, B.C., July 20, 2010 – Industry veterans Brenda Bailey Gershkovitch and Kirsten Forbes are announcing the formation of Silicon Sisters Interactive, a new Canadian video game company that will create games for a predominantly female audience.

According to the Entertainment Software Association, female gamers are one of the industry’s fastest growing demographics, with women currently accounting for 40% of the overall gaming audience. Silicon Sisters plans to capture and grow this rapidly expanding market by tailoring games to these players’ daily lives and personal interests. Their target customers — women of all ages, from tweens and teens to hard-working women worldwide — comprise an audience that the company’s all-female design staff inherently understands.

“We’re not interested in ‘pinkifying’ games, which is how girl games are typically designed,” says Brenda Bailey Gershkovitch, Silicon Sisters’ CEO. “It’s no coincidence that the games I and many other female gamers are most drawn to have had women involved in their development. Girls and women game differently than boys and men. Silicon Sisters has studied these differences so we can make games that truly appeal to and resonate with the female audience.”

It’s an objective perfectly suited to the founders’ backgrounds. During their combined 18 years in the industry, both have been vocal champions of female representation among video game developers and audiences. The former COO of Deep Fried Entertainment, Bailey Gershkovitch chairs the Vancouver chapter of Women in Games International and sits on GDC Canada’s Advisory Board. Forbes, previously an Executive Producer at Radical Entertainment, has delivered eleven top-selling games and is a veteran industry advocate for girl gaming preferences.

The fate of Carmine lies in your hands! Announcement: The God of Thunder strikes consoles with Thor: the Video Game

A new adventure featuring Marvel Comics’ mighty Thor arrives in 2011

Thursday 22nd July 2010 – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced they will bring Marvel Entertainment Inc.’s hall-of-fame franchise Thor™ to video game systems in an epic third-person adventure game. Thor: The Video Game™ is scheduled for release on all five major console platforms in winter 2011.

Thor: The Video Game will delve deep into the heroic tales of the Thor universe. Eisner Award-winning writer and lead Thor comic book author Matt Fraction brings authenticity to the narrative as a story consultant, and elevates the story beyond the comic and movie universe throughout the video game.  Players will take on an array of ancient enemies and beasts from the many worlds of Norse mythology by using different battle strategies and elemental powers. The sacred Mjolnir, Thor’s legendary hammer, will allow players to command the powers of the storm: wind, thunder and lightning. By earning Valor in combat throughout the game, players will also be able to select from a wider range of abilities, acquire new attacks, powers and upgrades.
