Armageddon Expo set to invade Melbourne with superstar line-up

Fantasy will become a reality once again for this year’s instalment of the Melbourne Armageddon Expo, set to invade Melbourne on October 16-17 for the fourth time.

The expo, to be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, will showcase the latest in science fiction, anime and gaming, together with an array of Hollywood celebrities including Michael Biehn and Kristanna Loken (Terminator), Sylvester Mccoy and Paul McGann (Doctor Who) and Michael Shanks (Stargate SG1).

Since launching in Melbourne in 2007, the event has gained international attention and Armageddon Expo‘s Bill Geradts believes the show continues to get bigger and better each year.

“Last year the show attracted over 13,500 people. It was a huge success and we gained some extremely positive feedback. This year we’re aiming to break the 15,000 mark with visitors,” Geradts stated.

“There’s going to be so much happening at the expo and it’s a really mixed bag, so I can’t think of one feature that will stand above the rest, but I do think a lot of people will go gaga for John DiMaggio – the voice of Bender from Futurama.

“The show is a really diverse cultural event, open to everyone. It will be full of entertainment, gaming and loads more, so there’s really something for everyone. If you’re looking for a fun family weekend, this is the place to be,” he added.

The expo will feature special events including Live Wrestling, the Superman/Batman Apocalypse Movie Screening, a Masquerade Ball and a Cosplay Contest and Parade.

A number of comic book artists and writers will also attend the event together with the best in gaming and technology, manga and cartoons.

Head to Ticketmaster to purchase general admission tickets to the October event or, for more information, visit armageddonexpo.com/au.

Now is a better time than ever for people to jump into this ancient Chinese world and witness the genuine feel it has to offer with the inclusion of some great features and a token shop that caters for everyone. The expansion, titled The Shadow Curse, is a thrilling milestone for the game, bringing with it new weapons, scenes, quests, bosses and more which will also be of value to new players wanting to experience TLBB” said Christian-Peter Heimbach, European Marketing Director for ChangYou.com.

Early indications suggest that one of the game’s main features will comprise of special artifact weapons that become available to those dedicated and persistent enough to get them. “The designs are based around ancient Chinese artifacts and updated with a modern twist to accommodate the game’s style” said one of the developers when asked about the look and feel of the weapons. Other unique features about the world include an ice cool scene as well as a snow covered area around the northern territories of the map.

The game’s Community Manager, Michael Doroszuk, has also stressed his excitement by adding “Our players have been asking about both the shop and what will be available in the upcoming expansion. With the official commercial launch of the game and the fantastic storyline that goes with the expansion, we hope their questions will be answered. On a community side, yes, we do have a number of fantastic events lined up such as the TLBB Connect event, which has proved very popular among players so far. Others that are based around some of our social networking sites include Facebook and Twitter. The only other piece of information I can give players is to look out for a special event on launch date for the expansion. There, I’ve said it”.

Step Into the World of Organized Crime with 2K Games’ Mafia® II

Authentic action-packed gangster saga captures trigger-happy mob life of 1940s and 1950s

Sydney, Australia– August 26, 2010 Gamers’ wait to enter the world of organized crime is over, as 2K Games announced today that Mafia® II, an epic crime-action tale, is now available in Australia and New Zealand for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. This pistol-packed period piece transports players to Empire Bay, a fully realized and immersive urban cityscape set in America during the 1940s and 1950s. The action unfolds with white-knuckled car chases, explosive gunplay, compelling characters and an engaging narrative set against a backdrop of meticulously detailed period environments that showcase the difference a decade can make in the evolution of music, fashion, advertising and automobiles.

Mafia II is what gamers want in a mob game – the marriage of a compelling story with edge-of-the-seat action and lifelike characters that immerse players in an epic entertainment experience,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “When you add in a setting that accurately reflects a period in history that has never been rendered so beautifully, it sets a new benchmark not just for the action-crime genre, but for any game set in the real world with a rich story to tell.”

Born the son of a poor immigrant, Vito is a beaten down Italian-American who is trying to escape the life of poverty that consumed his childhood. Vito, along with his lifelong friend, Joe, will descend into the world of organized crime. Looking to escape the life of hardship that his father led, Vito dreams about becoming a “made man,” and together with Joe, will work to prove themselves to the Mafia as they try to make their names on the streets. However, the two quickly realize that life as a wise guy isn’t quite as glamorous as it seems.

Throughout Mafia II, players will be immersed in the music from the most influential artists of the time. Mafia II features more than 100 original licensed songs from the 40’s and 50’s that can be heard blaring from car radios and throughout Empire Bay. Among the most popular offerings of the era are “Ain’t that a Kick in the Head” by Dean Martin, “Boom Boom” by John Lee Hooker, “Mambo Italiano” by Rosemary Clooney, “It Don’t Mean a Thing” by Duke Ellington, and “Manish Boy” by Muddy Waters.

The Mafia II demo, which has been downloaded and immensely enjoyed by millions of gamers around the world, is currently available for free from the PlayStation®Network, Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360 and via Steam and select Internet portals for Windows PC.
