Take a Ride on the Wild Side with Joe’s Adventures – All-New Story-Based DLC for Mafia® II Starring Joe Barbaro

Sydney, Australia – September 17, 2010 – 2K Games announced today that Joe’s Adventures*, the third action-packed downloadable game add-on for the epic crime game, Mafia® II, is coming worldwide to the PlayStation®Store for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC later this year. Joe’s Adventures continues the prodigious crime drama of Mafia II through the eyes of Joe Barbaro, Vito Scaletta’s best friend, during the time that Vito spends in prison. The game add-on extends the original narrative of Mafia II by combining a dramatic storyline with intense arcade-style gameplay that opens up several new areas in Empire Bay and items for players to get their hands dirty with.

Impulsive and unpredictable, Joe Barbaro has been at Vito’s side since childhood. That is, until Vito gets caught and sent to prison. In Joe’s Adventures, Joe uncovers the truth behind Vito’s prison sentence and what’s really going on in the Clemente family.

Joe’s Adventures offers an engaging narrative and allows players to explore new locations, including a train station, the cathouse, a boat yard, a seasonally changing lakefront and some never-before-seen buildings in Empire Bay. This exciting new chapter in the Mafia II saga includes new clothing, collectibles and even more classic 40’s and 50’s music. In addition to the story-based missions, Joe’s Adventures opens up a slew of optional city-based quests packed with arcade action gameplay and a points-based system that allows players to move up the ranks on the online leaderboard through combos and multiplier bonuses. Deadly executions by head shot or charged explosives rack up points, and precision-timed vehicular power slides, lofty jumps and feats of supercharged speed maintain the adrenaline-charged fun for extensive replayability.

Mafia II immerses players in a cinematic, Hollywood-style experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing metropolis. By fusing action-packed gameplay with white-knuckle driving and an epic gangster story, Mafia II is the industry’s most compelling Mafia title to date.

Mafia II is developed by 2K Czech, the same creative team behind the award-winning, genre-defining Mafia®, which captivated millions of gamers around the world. Mafia II is rated MA 15+ by the Australian Classification Board and is currently available worldwide.

THE CLOSER The Complete Fifth Season

Available to own on DVD for $69.95RRP and TO DOWNLOAD  from 10 November 2010.

Kyra Sedgwick Receives Wins Emmy-Award for her Portrayal of  Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson

Four-Disc DVD Collection Features All 15 Season Five Episodes

Exclusive Bonus Material Includes Unaired Scenes, a Gag Reel and Featurette

The fifth season of cable television’s award-winning police drama The Closer is set for release on DVD 10 November 2010, courtesy of Warner Home Video (WHV). Get for 15 dynamic episodes featuring multiple award-winning actress Kyra Sedgwick in her role as one of TV’s feistiest and most provocative police women. The DVD is loaded with bonus material that includes never-before-seen footage, a gag reel and a brand new featurette.  Titled The Closer: The Complete Fifth Season, this DVD set will retail for $59.95RRP.

At work, LAPD Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is a woman in charge.  Got a suspect to grill, a case to crack, a murderer about to walk?  Call Brenda in and watch the fireworks.  But at home…well, that’s another story.  Kyra Sedgwick headlines a sizzling 4-disc, 15-episode Season 5 of the series that combines heart, humour and homicide into a show that’s equally compelling as a police procedural and a personal drama.  As a cop, Brenda takes on everything from a corpse that comes COD to a serial killer to Captain Sharon Raydor (recurring guest star Mary McDonnell), an internal affairs officer as tough as she is.  As a civilian, Brenda loses one family member (’bye, Kitty) and gains another: her surly niece Charlie (Sedgwick’s real-life daughter, Sosie Bacon).  Brenda can outsmart, out manoeuvre and out a killer.  But can she handle a teenager?

“Thanks to Kyra Sedgwick’s consistently remarkable performance, Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson is fast becoming one of television’s most unforgettable characters,” said Caroline Skillen, WHV Australia’s  Marketing Director.  She added, “The fifth season of The Closer brings a brand new set of fresh and engaging plot lines, intelligent writing, wonderfully realized characters and powerful acting performances. Fans will not want to miss out on this outstanding release.”

In The Closer, Golden Globe® winner and Emmy® winner Kyra Sedgwick portrays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a CIA-trained detective who has been brought from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head up the Priority Homicide Division, a special unit of the LAPD that handles sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Despite her offbeat personality and tendency to step on people’s toes, Brenda’s tough-as-nails approach and track record prove her to be one of the country’s leading investigators. Brenda is tapped to lead the team because she is a world-class interrogator, and when it comes to obtaining confessions, she is an expert “closer.” However, her quirky attitude and hard-nosed approach to her job sometimes rub her colleagues the wrong way, as does the fact that she is a tough-minded Southern woman in a department dominated by men.

The series also stars J.K. Simmons (Juno), Corey Reynolds (The Guardian), Robert Gossett (Passions), G.W. Bailey (The Jeff Foxworthy Show), Tony Denison (Prison Break), Michael Paul Chan (Arrested Development), Raymond Cruz (Training Day), Phillip P. Keene (Home) and Jon Tenney (The Division).

The fifth season of The Closer earned Sedgwick a fifth consecutive Golden Globe® nomination.  She won the award in 2007 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Drama. Sedgwick also earned Emmy® Award nominations for each of the first four seasons of The Closer and a win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the recent 62nd annual ceremony, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her performance on all five seasons of the show. The cast received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series category during the show’s first, third, fourth and fifth seasons.

From The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, the series was created by James Duff (The D.A., The Agency) and is executive produced by Duff along with Michael M. Robin and Greer Shephard (the team behind the groundbreaking series Nip/Tuck), Sedgwick and Rick Wallace (L.A. Law). The Closer first premiered on June 13, 2005, on TNT.

THE MENTALIST The Complete Second Season

Available to own on DVD for $59.95RRP and TO DOWNLOAD  from 10 November 2010.

ALL 23 EPISODES OF THE POPULAR HIT SERIES WITH OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF EXTRA CONTENT IN A FIVE-DISC SET

Get a clue and crack the case with the release of The Mentalist: The Complete Second Season on DVD this 10 November 2010 from Warner Home Video. Starring Simon Baker (nominated for lead actor Emmy® and Golden Globe® Awards in 2009 and 2010, respectively, for his role as Patrick Jane), Robin Tunney, Tim Kang, Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti, The Mentalist will have fans “dying” to own the hit series that balances nimble humour with dark thrills. In addition to all 23 one-hour episodes, this five-disc set contains over an hour and half of never-before-seen extras, including deleted scenes; the “Mentalism: A Subliminal Art” featurette, providing an inside look on how mentalists really work; and “Art of the Mentalist,” with insights from executive producer/director Chris Long on making an episode.

California Bureau of Investigation consultant Patrick Jane (Simon Baker in his Emmy®-nominated role) exhibits a blatant lack of protocol but is self-assured and driven. The former “psychic” uses his talent for seeing the clues everyone else misses to solve the most baffling crimes. But there’s more than crime that makes this season a must-see: Lisbon and Cho reveal hints about their troubled pasts; violence fells one CBI boss, and the new boss seems more interested in authority than teamwork; and as the Van Pelt-Rigsby relationship heats up, it threatens to cool down their careers.

The Mentalist was created by Bruno Heller (HBO’s Emmy® Award–winning Rome), who executive produces along with Chris Long (Gilmore Girls). The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

LOADED WITH OVER FOUR HOURS OF EXCLUSIVE, THRILLING BONUS FEATURES

When the unimaginable transpires on screen, you know Fringe creators J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (the team behind Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III and Alias) are behind it. Witness as the impossible becomes possible and worlds literally collide when Warner Home Video releases the hit TV series Fringe: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray™ and DVD this 10 November 2010 for $69.95RRP/$59.95RRP.

Return to explore the boundaries of a mysterious mythology that holds millions of viewers in its hypnotic grasp. Season two of Fringe contains worlds (and alternate worlds) of excitement complete with shape shifters, cryonic heads, belly-dwelling beasts and people who turn to ashes before our eyes. But the overarching narrative takes the FBI’s Fringe Division – which includes Special Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv – The Pacific), formerly institutionalised “fringe” scientist Walter Bishop (John Noble – The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) and his son, Peter (Joshua Jackson – Dawson’s Creek) – through a mind-bending investigation of a parallel reality that threatens to destroy ours. The impossible is here in a series that The New York Times says offers “the most satisfying, coherent story arc of any science-fiction-flavoured primetime drama.”

Fringe is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jeff Pinkner (Alias), J.H. Wyman (The Mexican) and Bryan Burk (Star Trek), with Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers), Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) and Akiva Goldsman (The Da Vinci Code) serving as consulting producers. The series stars Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, Lance Reddick (The Wire), Blair Brown (Altered States), Jasika Nicole (Take the Lead) and John Noble. Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) is a recurring guest star. Fringe is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Fringe has been showered with critical accolades, with Rolling Stone praising the show’s “unfailingly amazing cast and dialogue,” while Entertainment Weekly lauded its “wickedly smart and darkly humorous plots.”

“Warner Home Video is excited to release Fringe: The Complete Second Season to its loyal and enthusiastic fans on both Blu-ray and DVD,” said Caroline Skillen, WHV Australia’s Marketing Director. “In its first season, the mythology behind Fringe revealed itself in increasingly more intriguing ways, and this release features all 23 episodes, including The Unearthed Episode starring Kirk Acevedo as Charlie, plus over four hours of dazzling special features.”

THE EXORCIST EXTENDED DIRECTOR’S CUT

ON BLU-RAY™ FOR $19.95RRP, DVD FOR $14.95RRP,  FROM 27 OCTOBER 2010JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN

THE EXORCIST EXTENDED DIRECTOR’S CUT

Includes Newly Remastered Director’s Cut and Three New Documentaries Including

Never-Before-Seen Set Footage, Make-up Tests, New Interviews and More

The Exorcist, Academy Award® winning director William Friedkin’s masterpiece of suspense that haunted, intrigued, and thrilled the world, is coming to Blu-ray™ in a single-disc, must-have high-definition set, available 27 October 2010 from Warner Home Video. A true cinema landmark, this theological thriller is one of the top ten box office performers of all time.* The Exorcist went on to win two Academy Awards and became a multi-million dollar franchise.

When the movie was first released in 1973, viewers were blown away. Audience members were frightened out of their wits – and literally out of their seats. Some ran out of the theatre; others got physically ill or couldn’t sleep for weeks. Now with the maximum picture and sound quality that Warner Home Video’s spectacularly restored new Blu-ray™ and DVD versions provide, home viewers may experience the same visceral emotions again in seeing the brilliant effects and hearing the awesome sound of this classic and thrilling tale of good vs. evil.

The Exorcist will be available for $19.95RRP on Blu-ray™ and $14.95RRP on DVD.

Says Friedkin, “After my final cut of the original The Exorcist, I took out 12 more minutes before we actually released it in theatres. Years later, Bill Blatty asked if I’d consider reviewing some of that rejected footage (which he always felt should have remained) with an eye towards putting it into a new version. Bill gave me the best piece of material I’ve ever received and because of that and because the film had such a major reputation over some 25 years, I agreed to revisit all these scenes. When I saw them, I came to realise that Bill was, in fact, right. With technical advances, scenes that didn’t work then could now be fixed with CGI and there were others that I thought strengthened the spiritual aspect of the film. Warner agreed and released a whole new theatrical print in 2000 which we called The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen. And I now agree with Blatty that this is the best and most complete version.”

The Extended Director’s Cut contains three new documentaries: Raising Hell: Filming the Exorcist, including new revealing set footage produced and photographed by cinematographer Owen Roizman, as well as camera and makeup tests, interviews with Friedkin, actress Linda Blair, author/screenwriter/producer William Peter Blatty and Roizman himself; The Exorcist Locations: Georgetown Then and Now featuring a tour of the iconic locations where the film was shot, including a visit to the famous “Exorcist steps”; and Faces of Evil: The Different Versions of The Exorcist with Friedkin and Blatty discussing the different versions of the film and showing outtakes. The result is a new immersive viewing experience that takes you on the set of the film and offers a unique, up-close perspective of the filmmaking and special effects process that is rarely seen.

Said Caroline Skillen, Marketing Director of Warner Home Video Australia “Generally speaking, sourcing relevant and provocative film assets for older films (30 years and older), is difficult, and more often than not, proves to be unsuccessful. The never before seen behind the camera treasure trove of material that consumers will see in The Exorcist Blu-ray release is one of the great finds in modern day home entertainment history. Laurent Bouzereau, an acclaimed documentarian, has blended this archival rare footage with updated present day interviews to create a masterpiece that will be treasured and studied for decades to come.”

Details about The Exorcist

Says Mr. Friedkin, “When I first read the book, I thought it made a positive statement about religion and humanity and how they are inter-related. I approached the movie a bit differently, from a practical point of view – that of asking more questions than giving answers. But both Bill [Blatty] and I wanted a film that would be so realistic it was impossible not to believe it.”

The Exorcist caused a cultural earthquake that is still felt today, shocking and enthralling audiences, who had never seen anything like it. Directed by Friedkin (Oscar®-winner for The French Connection) and written by William Peter Blatty, the film is based on his best-selling novel which sold nearly 13 million copies domestically and was the #1 book on the New York Times Best Seller List for 57 weeks, 17 of them at #1. The Exorcist won Blatty the Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as winning for Best Sound. The film was also nominated for an additional eight Oscars® including Best Picture.

The film tells the now-famous story of a girl’s demonic possession, and a gripping fight between good and evil. Linda Blair, in a breakout role, plays Regan, a young girl who starts to exhibit strange, arcane behaviour. Her mother (Ellen Burstyn, Oscarâ-winner for Best Actress Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) calls upon a priest, Father Karras (Jason Miller) to investigate. But Karras, who has self-doubts about faith, is suddenly confronted with the unimaginable evil of Regan’s possession. When Father Lankester Merrin (Max Von Sydow), a priest with a mysterious past, is called to help, a horrific battle for her soul begins.

“The Carlton Draught Magnatron will blow you away,” said Vincent Ruiu, Carlton group marketing manager. “Next weekend fans will bear witness to two once-in-a-lifetime spectacles, the AFL Grand Final and the Carlton Draught Magnatron. As they walk over the bridge to the MCG they’ll find themselves right at the heart of the Magnatron activity, watching as the competition winners take their turn at grabbing hold of the prizes.”

Fourteen lucky winners will have the chance to test their skills, using the Magnatron to swivel, slide and drop down to collect their share of the $100,000 prize pool by placing the crane arm and the electro-magnet into position, before sending it downwards to clasp on their prize and remove it from the enclosure.

The contestants are made up of prize winners selected from the Carlton Draught on-pack promotion and via an on-air radio contest with Austereo Melbourne.

The Magnatron promotion follows in the footsteps of great Carlton Draught initiatives of previous years, including The $200k Mystery Prize, Drop the Bomb and The Plastic Cup.

FRUIT NINJA UPDATE 1.4 RELEASED – GAME CENTER MULTIPLAYER!

17th September, 2010 – Today Halfbrick is proud to launch version 1.4 of its hugely successful iPhone game Fruit Ninja – featuring none other than a new multiplayer mode via the amazing Game Center system from Apple! Fruit Ninja is one of the first games ever to utilize Game Center for network multiplayer.

The new multiplayer requires iOS 4.1 with Game Center, and the devices compatible are iPhone 3GS and above, and iPod Touch 2G and above. These are technical requirements from Apple and Game Center required to run the new multiplayer mode.

To get started, log in with your Game Center account, and select New Game. You’ll see the new Multiplayer option available – slice that and you’ll join the lobby. Simply select Auto Match Up, hit Play Now and you’ll be automatically pitted against another ninja! Alternatively, send an invite to one of your Game Center friends to throw down the challenge!

The game is simple – your fruits are blue and your opponent’s are red. Slice blue fruits, avoid the red fruits and keep an eye out for the elusive white fruits – these can be sliced by either opponent and award extra points! The combos are still in full force, so you must bring your A game to the table and rack up some huge scores!

Finally, you can rest assured that as per usual, we will be updating the game with more goodies in the very near future! The secret banana mode is very nearly complete, and we will be adding more Game Center functionality including leaderboards and achievements.

Thanks for all your support and we look forward to bringing you more Fruit Ninja content soon!
