Set Sail for Adventure with 2K Games’ Sid Meier’s Pirates!™ for Wii™

Sydney, Australia – October 8, 2010 – 2K Games announced today that the swashbuckling adventure, Sid Meier’s Pirates!™, is now available in Australia and New Zealand on the Wii™ system from Nintendo for $49.95. After a successful mutiny, gamers serve as the ship’s captain and helm one of 27 fully customizable vessels in and around the treasure-laden 17th century Caribbean islands.  Either by their ship’s cannon or sword’s blade, players must fend off their foes while they explore the exotic islands and surrounding seas hunting for hidden treasure.

“Spilling over with swashbuckling pirate exploration, Sid Meier’s Pirates! is one of those rare games that is fun for both fans of the original and younger gamers who are new to the series,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

Originally developed by Firaxis Games, Sid Meier’s Pirates! was adapted for Wii by 2K China and Virtuous and includes the classic mini-games from the franchise’s original title such as Sword Fighting, Ship Combat and Dancing, as well as two new mini-games mapped to the Wii controls – Bombardment and Lock Picking. The game’s open-ended campaign provides captains with the chance of a lifetime to amass fortune, fame and notoriety all the while searching for kidnapped family members and waiting for the opportunity to find and defeat the evil Marquis de la Montalban once and for all.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! offers action-packed naval battles where captains must out maneuver opponents using prevailing winds in order to capture or sink the enemy’s ship. While on land, captains will descend upon and plunder seaside colonies, trade with local merchants, embark on daring secret missions, ransack hidden treasures, duel using blades of steel or pistols, capture seaside cities and dance the night away with the governor’s daughter. Sid Meier’s Pirates! brings more pirate action than ever before to Wii fans.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! is rated PG by the Australian Classification Board. For more information on Sid Meier’s Pirates!, please visit www.2kgames.com/pirates/wii/us/.

BitDefender announces results of quarterly ANZ Threats Report

BitDefender announces results of quarterly ANZ Threats Report

Removable devices, instant messenger and P2P networks posed weakest link in Q3 2010

SYDNEY & AUCKLAND – October 8, 2010 – Removable devices, instant messenger and peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms were the weakest links in PC security, according to BitDefender’s quarterly Australian and New Zealand threats report for the third quarter of 2010.

The notorious Autorun family of Trojans was well-represented in the infection of PCs during the last quarter. Specifically, Trojan.AutorunInf.Gen (12 percent) and Trojan.Autorun.AET (3.24 percent) were the most prevalent from the Autorun family during Q3 as they spread easily via removable devices and Windows® shared folders. These Trojans were designed to exploit the Windows® Autorun feature to execute dangerous files located on infected USB drives – highlighting the need for vigilance when using USB sticks to transfer documents and files between PCs.

Win32.Worm.Downadup a.k.a. Kido or Confiker, was the second most widely spread threat during Q3 2010. Computer users should always scan external devices, especially after having plugged them into public terminals such as photo kiosks and internet cafes. Plus, computer users should know that, since Microsoft® has patched this vulnerability in Windows® Vista® and Windows® 7, they only need to update their operating systems and antivirus solutions in order to stay safe.

Occupying third place, Trojan.Generic.4170878 is a recently discovered threat with some nasty potential. This backdoor provides cybercriminals remote access to the infected system and, unfortunately, its distribution rate has also seen a steady rise in the last few months through instant messenger and P2P networks.

The Q3 ANZ threat report also includes a few exploit-oriented threats, namely Exploit.PDF-JS.Gen (2.43 percent). It has been a constant presence amongst malware distribution charts this quarter. This generic detection deals with malformed PDF files exploiting different vulnerabilities found in the Javascript engine of Adobe® PDF Reader® with the purpose of executing further malicious code on users’ computers.

A list of the top 10 electronic threats from BitDefender’s Q3 2010:

1. Trojan.AutorunINF.Gen 11.47%
2. Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen 5.61%
3. Trojan.Generic.4170878 3.34%
4. Trojan.Autorun.AET 3.24%
5. Exploit.PDF-JS.Gen 2.43%
6. Win32.Sality.OG 2.27%
7. Exploit.CplLnk.Gen 2.22%
8. Gen:Variant.Rimecud.1 1.69%
9. Gen:Variant.Hiloti.1 1.43%
10. Win32.Virtob.Gen.12 1.43%
  Other 64.87%

Deep Silver releases a brand new trailer showing all game environments ahead of the game’s release

Deep Silver has released a brand new trailer for “nail’d” detailing all four environments of the new game coming in March 2011 in Australia/New Zealand from leading developer Techland.

In what is now acknowledged as the world’s fastest off-road arcade racing game, nail’d” goes bigger, faster, higher, and longer than any all-terrain game has ever gone before! The new trailer gives a flavour of the 70-degree slopes, massive air, bottomless chasms, white-knuckle rides and heart-stopping jumps into the unknown – if the jumps were any bigger in the game, it would be classed as a flight sim!

nail’d” will ship in North America on November 30, 2010, in Germany in November, in France, Italy and Benelux release on January 14, 2011 and in the UK, Spain and Nordics on February 04, 2011.

“nail’d”, developed by Techland, will be released on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360®, the video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, and PC. Get more information about the game on the official website or join the nail’d community:

Captain America heads to consoles for an action-packed World War II adventure in Captain America: Super Soldier

Justice strikes in white, red and blue as the Super Soldier hero from Marvel comics fights against the Red Skull and his forces in a thrilling story written by Marvel Scribe Christos Gage

Thursday 7th October 2010 – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that they will be bringing Marvel Entertainment Inc.’s famed Super Hero franchise Captain America™ to video game systems in an original WWII adventure. Captain America: Super Soldier™ is slated for release in winter 2011 and will be available on Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ home video game system.

“Videogame players the world over can now become Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Captain America,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. “Captain America: Super Soldier puts players in the boots of the ultimate Super Soldier, wielding Captain America’s legendary shield. Working closely with Marvel ensures we’re delivering the calibre of product that gamers and comic fans deserve and it’s a partnership we’re proud of here at SEGA.”

Captain America: Super Soldier is a third person action adventure game which combines dynamic acrobatic platforming with a fast and fluid melee combat system. Written by renowned Marvel comic writer Christos Gage, the game follows an engaging storyline set within the period of WWII. Players will take the role of ‘Super Soldier’ Captain America and test their skills as they battle infamous enemies such as Iron Cross, the Hydra Army and the legendary Red Skull.

At their disposal is Captain America’s iconic shield, which will be utilised as both a defensive and offensive weapon and be used to execute dozens of innovative and exhilarating moves. The legendary comic book character truly comes to life scaling walls and taking out multiple enemies in this exciting combat game.

The original story for Captain America: Super Soldier is being penned by noted comic, film, and TV writer Christos Gage, the primary writer for the Marvel’s Avengers: The Initiative series of comics. Gage has written numerous books for major Marvel characters, including Siege: Captain America, The Invincible Iron Man, X-Men, Spider-Man, Civil War: House of M, and Union Jack.

Gage wrote his original story for Captain America: Super Soldier so that the setting coincides with the upcoming movie of the same name, but he infused the game with immersive twists designed to enhance gameplay alongside all-new cinematic action sequences.

The preeminent super hero introduced during the WWII era, Captain America was created by the legendary team of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941. Over 200 million Captain America issues have been sold in 75 countries and the shield-wielding hero is a key member of the Avengers alongside comic book icons The Hulk™, Iron Man™, and Thor™.
