2K Games Calls for Return of Chaos and Destruction with
The Darkness™ II

Quad-Wielding combat, ruthless story and hand-painted graphic noir art style breathe new life into first-person shooter genre this Spring

Sydney, Australia – February 9, 2011 – 2K Games announced today that The Darkness™ II, the sequel to the million unit-selling 2007 title, The Darkness™, will be coming to the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in Spring 2011. Developed by Digital Extremes and based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II takes players down a brutal and personal path as Jackie Estacado, wielder of The Darkness – an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction.

The Darkness II breaks out of the sea of conventional first-person shooters with its fervid Quad-Wielding gameplay, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with the use of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and engulfed in stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique that stays true to its comic book origins.

The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling. The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”

The Darkness II will feature award-winning comic book writer, Paul Jenkins, who will provide a tightly integrated narrative that weaves dark humor with hardcore tenderness.

Take a step back from the familiar and comfortable, and prepare to embrace The Darkness.

It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power, and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.

“Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath,” said Marc Silvestri, founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creator of The Darkness comics. “So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II. Yeah, call me biased, but this second installment of Jackie Estacado’s epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I’ve ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park.”

The Darkness II is not yet rated by the Australian Classification Board or New Zealand’s Office of Film and Literature Classification. For more information on The Darkness II, please visit www.embracethedarkness.com.

NINTENDO 3DS BRINGS A DIMENSIONAL SHIFT TO THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT ON MARCH 31

Glasses-Free 3D Gaming System Comes Packed with Features

Australia and New Zealand, 9 February, 2011 –
The company that changed the world of video games with Touch Screen gaming in 2004 and motion-controlled gaming in 2006 now pioneers the next dimensional shift. On March 31, at the SRP AU $349.95*, Nintendo introduces portable entertainment in 3D – without the need for special glasses. The Nintendo 3DS™ system will be available in Cosmos Black or Aqua Blue.

Nintendo 3DS includes two screens. The bottom Touch Screen makes use of a telescoping stylus that is stored in the unit itself. The top screen displays 3D visuals to the naked eye. Looking at the screen is like peering through a window into a world where characters and objects have true depth. The system also has a 3D Depth Slider that lets players select the level of 3D they enjoy the most. The 3D effect can be increased up to the highest level, scaled back to a more moderate setting or even turned off completely, depending on the preference of the user. In addition to the familiar + Control Pad and button controls found on previous Nintendo handhelds, Nintendo 3DS now also includes a Circle Pad, which

provides a full 360 degrees of direction, giving it the freedom and precision needed to play games in 3D worlds. It brings the same degree of responsiveness that gamers enjoyed when Nintendo introduced an analog control stick to navigate Mario through Super Mario™ 64 on the Nintendo 64™ system.

A built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor can react to the motion and tilt of the system, so whether players are twisting their systems side to side or moving them up and down, their motion-compatible Nintendo 3DS games respond instantly. No other system includes so many tools for game developers to create new and fun experiences for players.

Nintendo 3DS comes with six augmented-reality cards, called AR Cards. When the two outer cameras are pointed at the cards, they read the cards and superimpose images and animations onto the scene. So users shouldn’t be surprised if they see a dragon popping out of their kitchen tables. Developers can also use this technology to add creative new experiences to their games.

Each Nintendo 3DS comes pre-loaded with a variety of fun games, applications and features, such as Nintendo 3DS Camera. Nintendo 3DS has three cameras. One camera points at the user, while two additional cameras point outward. These two outer cameras take photos in 3D. The fun, built-in game Face Raiders asks users to shoot at funny depictions of their own faces. Nintendo 3DS, when put into Sleep Mode, can act as a pedometer, while letting users earn Play Coins for the steps they take that can then be traded in for additional content in compatible games and applications. By accessing the Activity Log, users can check their steps as well as their play time. With Nintendo 3DS Sound, users can enjoy sound-manipulation tools or enjoy listening to their MP3 or AAC music files. An upgraded Internet browser will also be available via a system update.

The Mii Maker application gives users new tools to create Mii™ characters even more easily: users can either wirelessly import Mii characters from their Wii™ or use the camera to take a picture of a person and have an automatic Mii character created. Users can even save their Nintendo 3DS Mii characters to an SD

Memory Card as pictures, which enables them to be used any way a digital photo would for personal use, such as a profile picture on social-networking sites.

The Nintendo eShop, through a system update, will offer access to downloadable games, including Nintendo DSiWare™ and ones specifically made for Nintendo 3DS. Also, just as the Virtual Console™ service on Wii makes retro games available for download, the Virtual Console games on Nintendo 3DS will be pulled from classic Game Boy™ and Game Boy™ Color games. Players will be able to view game videos, download demos for select games and see how other consumers rated the games. The Nintendo eShop will use a cash-based system. Users can either input credit card information in the shop or purchase a Nintendo eShop card at retail locations. The Nintendo eShop will be available from late May.

Two features will allow owners to stay connected in new ways. Both deliver bonus content to owners as they move around during their daily lives, so users might open up their systems at any moment to find new surprises. For owners who choose to activate it, the StreetPass™ feature is capable of exchanging game information with other Nintendo 3DS systems as owners pass one another during the day. Small packets of information can be exchanged using this data-transfer method, such as Mii™ character data, maps for games or high scores and custom character data for different games. The SpotPass™ feature can connect to compatible public hotspots and through a wireless broadband Internet connection at home, even if the system is in Sleep Mode. Once connected, the Nintendo 3DS system will receive new content and updates on a regular basis.

Built-in parental controls can be used to limit Internet access or some of the wireless functions. By using a PIN code, parents also can turn off the 3D function altogether, or limit the ratings of the games that their children can play.

Fans of online play will be happy to learn that the friend codes for Nintendo 3DS are specific to each Nintendo 3DS system, not each game. Once friends trade hardware codes, at any time they can check their friends list to see which of their friends are online and what they are playing.

Nintendo 3DS can also play Nintendo DS game cards with their original 2D visuals. The system also includes a slot for an SD Memory Card. To help users get started, every system comes with a 2GB SD Memory Card (though owners can provide whatever size they like). Using a service that will be provided after the hardware’s launch, Nintendo DSi™ and Nintendo DSi™ XL owners will be able to transfer games downloaded from the Nintendo DSi Shop onto their new Nintendo 3DS systems.

During the launch window (between the March 31 launch date and the E3 Expo in early June) more than 30 games will be available to Nintendo 3DS owners. These include Nintendo-created games like Pilotwings Resort™, which has players soaring acrobatically over iconic Wuhu Island; nintendogs™ + cats, a new version of the Nintendo DS classic with a feline enhancement; and Steel Diver™, a side-scrolling submarine adventure that gives the illusion that the player is peering into an aquarium. Other Nintendo 3DS games in the works include The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox™ 64 3D, Kid Icarus™: Uprising and new installments in the Mario Kart™, Animal Crossing™ and Paper Mario™ series.

Nintendo 3DS also enjoys some of the strongest third-party support of any system launch. A partial list of titles coming soon to Nintendo 3DS includes Super Street Fighter® IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D Edition from Capcom; The Sims™ 3 from Electronic Arts; PES 2011 3D from Konami; LEGO® Star Wars™ III The Clone Wars™ from LucasArts™; Ridge Racer™3D from Namco Bandai; Super Monkey Ball™ 3D, Crush™ 3D, Thor™ : God of Thunder, from SEGA; Samurai Warriors: Chronicles and DEAD OR ALIVE® Dimensions from Tecmo Koei.Europe Ltd.; Tom Clancy’s™ Ghost Recon® Shadow Wars, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell ® 3D, Rayman® 3D, Asphalt™ 3D, Combat of Giants™ Dinosaurs 3D, James Noir’s Hollywood Crimes™, Driver® Renegade, Puzzle Bobble Universe™ and Rabbids® 3D from Ubisoft.

Discover romance under a night sky

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and Melbourne romantics are now able to purchase their loved ones a gift with a difference – an evening of stargazing, wine, cheese and good company at Discover the Night Sky.

The Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks will be running its popular astronomy sessions every Thursday evening in March, and bookings for Discover the Night Sky will be open this coming Valentine’s Day, 14 February.

Discover the Night Sky has been a fantastic program for audiences because it’s unique, friendly – and sometimes even romantic,” said Dr Tanya Hill, Curator of Astronomy.

“The Melbourne Planetarium has been featured on a number of dating blogs as a perfect location for a truly unique date, and after-dark programs such as Discover the Night Sky and Fulldome Fridays, which is currently running, have great appeal for adult audiences.

“A visit to the Planetarium is something unique and a bit special, whether you are with friends, a potential new romance or the love of your life.”

During the month of March there will be five astronomy sessions, each including a complimentary glass of wine, cheese and the opportunity to chat to the Planetarium’s Astronomer, Dr. Tanya Hill in person. The evening will finish with stargazing through telescopes (weather permitting).

Thursday March 3 – Backyard Astronomy: It’s not just stars you can see in the night sky – planets, comets, shooting stars and satellites are all there if you know when and where to look. Navigate by the stars and discover how you can become a backyard astronomer.

Thursday March 10 – Travel the Universe: We invite you on a tour of the Universe that will take you to the far reaches of space. You know the Universe is big, really big, but nothing can compare with the experience of seeing it for yourself.

Thursday March 17 – The Solar System: Journey through the Earth’s local neighbourhood – our Solar System. It is a system of planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids and comets, bound by the pull of the Sun. Marvel at the beauty of each unique world and the stories they tell.

Thursday March 24 – The Milky Way Galaxy: We are just one planet, orbiting one star, among the 400 billion stars of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is truly magnificent; a swirling mass of stars, gas and dust. But what do we know of our home galaxy? And how did we come to discover it?

Thursday March 31Dark Energy: Only a tiny fraction, just 4% of the Universe is made of the stuff we know – the atoms that make us and everything around us. The rest we call dark matter and dark energy. What are these two enigmas and why must they exist?

PALACE FILMS’ OSCAR®-NOMINATED ‘GASLAND’ – COMING SOON TO DVD

MELBOURNE, Wednesday, 9 February 2011: Madman presents the highly-anticipated DVD release of Palace Films’ GASLAND, the Oscar®-nominated documentary by Josh Fox, on 6 April 2011(RRP $34.95).

Part vérité travelogue, part exposé, part mystery, part showdown, GASLAND is a compelling and emotional first-person story of discovery and, ultimately, empowerment. GASLAND was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Documentary when it premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, and has since collected a host of international awards, most recently receiving a 2011 Academy Award® nomination for Best Documentary (Feature).

GASLAND’s limited Australian theatrical release by Palace Films garnered a Box Office result of over $150,000.

In September 2008 theatre director Josh Fox received a letter from a natural gas company, offering him $100,000 for permission to explore his upstate New York property.  Rather than blindly signing on the dotted line, Josh’s curiosity compelled him to start asking questions.  He soon discovered that in the race for ‘cleaner’, greener & more efficient energy sources, the largest natural gas drilling boom in history has resulted in an environmental disaster of shocking proportions – flammable water that can be ignited right out of the sink, chronically ill residents of drilling areas all with the same mysterious symptoms, pools of toxic waste that kill cattle and vegetation, well blowouts and gas explosions – and the US government has not only turned a blind eye, it has regulated itself out of the picture.

GASLAND is a desperate plea for scrutiny of a powerful industry that has turned its focus on a new, and largely unexplored territory: Australia, where hydraulic fracturing, known here as ‘coal seam exploration’, is also the method used for natural gas extraction.

To celebrate the DVD release and Academy Award® nomination, Josh Fox is available for limited media interviews. Please contact Madman Publicity to secure your opportunity.  GASLAND will be available on DVD (RRP $34.95) on 6 April, 2011.
