Relive the Magic of King’s Quest Today with King’s Quest III Redux

Relive the Magic of King’s Quest Today with King’s Quest III Redux

Free remake can be downloaded for PC and Mac from http://www.agdinteractive.com

February 24, 2011 – AGD Interactive, an acclaimed developer of classic adventure game remakes, is proud to present King’s Quest III Redux: To Heir Is Human after eight years of undercover production. This retold and remastered version of the 1986 Sierra On-Line game can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/kq3 for PC and Mac. Today’s release brings an end to over a decade of free game production for AGD Interactive, who will now turn their talents to commercial projects.

Unlike the earlier King’s Quest games, which starred King Graham of Daventry in the lead role, King’s Quest III explores the fate of Gwydion, a slave who was snatched by the cruel wizard Manannan as an infant. Knowing nothing of his origin, Gwydion has been forced into a life of servitude and misery—until now. Using brainpower and a bit of ancient magic, it’s up to the player to thwart Manannan, secure Gwydion’s escape, and finally discover the truth about the young man’s identity.

King’s Quest III Redux stays true to Sierra’s 1986 classic while improving on elements that detracted from the original experience. Where the original King’s Quest III had blocky 16-color EGA graphics and a frustrating text parser, AGD Interactive’s remake features hand-painted SVGA graphics and a point and click interface reminiscent of later games in the series. The game has been polished to perfection, with lush storybook-style visuals, professional voice acting with Hollywood actor Robert Adamson in the role of Gwydion, and an original digital soundtrack composed especially for the remake. While the gameplay is largely unchanged, King’s Quest III Redux does include a number of original puzzles and puts a new spin on the story.

“We’re very excited to finally release this game after developing it in secret for so long,” says Chris Warren, who co-founded AGD Interactive as well as its sister company, Himalaya Studios. “We’ve poured a lot of love into this particular project and I think King’s Quest fans will be very pleased at the results, even though reaching the end may be bittersweet. Now we plan to focus on new, original games that retain the same retro charm that made the Sierra games so enduring.”

A first look at the group’s next endeavor, Mage’s Initiation: Reign of the Elements, has been revealed today at http://www.himalayastudios.com/games/mages. Planned for release in late 2012, Mage’s Initiation will combine classic adventure puzzles with RPG-style character customization in a format reminiscent of Sierra’s famed Quest for Glory series. Additional game details, a mailing list sign-up for production updates, and the unique opportunity to reserve a Limited Edition copy of the game can be found on the Himalaya Studios website. Fans can also follow the game’s progress on Twitter: http://twitter.com/himalayastudios

Runes of Magic Chapter IV Starting with Closed Beta

– ‘Chapter IV – Lands of Despair’ will open its doors to beta testers in April –

AUSTRALIA – February 25, 2011: Frogster will be releasing the fourth chapter of the online role-playing game, Runes of Magic, called ‘Chapter IV – Lands of Despair later this year. A small number of players will be among the first to get access to the new content in the first closed beta starting in April. The new zone boasts an exciting background story with unexplored areas, dungeons, and a new level cap of 70, among other new features.

‘Chapter IV – Lands of Despair’ tells the story of a mighty, mysterious demon who has thrown the world of Taborea into turmoil. As part of his devious plan, he has released a horrifying contagion across the land, turning the inhabitants of entire villages into soulless zombies. Even Annelia, daughter of Lord Grafu, has joined his ranks as a young apprentice and has been consumed by the darkness inside her. Runes of Magic players will set off on a dangerous journey through uncharted regions, and confront new and terrifying creatures to bring light to this dark and afflicted land.

Players first steps in this intriguing empire will bring them to the ‘Land of Malevolence’, which can be reached by way of a path from the recently released Limo Desert. The zone is filled with contaminated forests and poisonous rivers, but the area’s main features are the many castles that dot the horizon, standing in contrast to the desert design of the previous region. The first of the new instances is tucked away in one of the many castles, alongside the countless hidden nooks and crannies. The new design concept of the chapter is perfectly embodied in Lord Grafu’s castle, where players must solve challenging puzzles and reign victorious in strategic battles in order to lay their hands on the coveted treasures stored within.

Runes of Magic: Chapter IV – Lands of Despair will be available for free download like all previous updates from Frogster.

Frogster will be showing new content from Chapter IV at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco from March 2-4, 2011 in San Francisco. The team from Frogster will also be available for interviews.

For more information on the new chapter visit our official website at: www.runesofmagic.com.au

Wargaming.net Reveals Details on World of Tanks Data Center in North America

World of Tanks is operated in North America employing Caronet facilities

London, UK — 25th February 2011 — Wargaming.net announced today the company is using Caronet data center facilities for operating its highly-anticipated MMO action game WORLD OF TANKS in North America. Caronet owns and operates a large private data center complex specializing in reliable infrastructure to enable totally fail-safe online operations.

With the ever growing expansion of the video game industry into more and more arenas, Caronet has positioned itself as an incubator for new and emerging technologies as well as an innovator in the design and architecture necessary to facilitate the next level of content delivery. Its uniquely designed network is both fully redundant and self-healing from top to bottom with a collapsed core/distribution layer to better facilitate truly remarkable amounts of bandwidth.

“We considered several data centers before launching World of Tanks for North America. We were fortunate to meet the Caronet team,” said Marat Karpeko, COO at Wargaming. “Caronet fully satisfies our requirements to operate the intensive development environment we need to deliver a complete set of services expected in an ace-high MMO game. Their attention to specific details, however minute, plus their level of interpersonal communication really sets them far apart from the rest of the data centers we have worked with in the past. Expanding upon what we had and giving us invaluable input back and forth made the integration seamless.”

“Wargaming came to us looking for a company where quality and resiliency are core values with a strong reputation for delivering high performance solutions. We were able to easily meet that requirement since those are the attributes that define who we are,” says Mike White, President of Caronet. “We are excited to provide WarGaming.net with the reliable and scalable computing infrastructure that will allow them to painlessly grow its business and online community.”

Intel Announces Thunderbolt™ Technology: The Fastest Data Connection to Your PC Just Arrived

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 24, 2011 – Intel Corporation today announced the availability of Thunderbolt technology, a new high-speed PC connection technology that brings together high-speed data transfer and high-definition (HD) display on to a single cable. Running at 10Gbps, Thunderbolt technology can transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds. This Intel-developed technology is coming to market through a technical collaboration with Apple, and is available first on Apple’s new line of MacBook Pro laptop computers.

Wait Less. Do More.
The vision for Thunderbolt technology (formerly codenamed “Light Peak”) is to move media faster, simplify connections between devices, and foster new and exciting ways to build and use PCs. Combining high-speed data and HD video connections together onto a single cable is instrumental to achieving that vision. Thunderbolt technology delivers this via two communications methods, or protocols — PCI Express* for data transfer and DisplayPort * for displays. PCI Express has the flexibility to connect to almost any type of device, and DisplayPort can drive greater than 1080p resolution displays and up to eight channels of audio simultaneously. Thunderbolt technology is compatible with existing DisplayPort displays and adapters. All Thunderbolt technology devices share a common connector, and let individuals simply daisy-chain their devices one after another, connected by electrical or optical cables.

Thunderbolt technology is designed to meet the demands of serious HD media creators. For example, videographers can unleash their creativity using high-bandwidth audio and video capture/mixing devices, and get both low latency and highly-accurate time synchronization for real-time processing. At 10Gbps, larger media files are transferred faster so there’s less time spent waiting to watch and edit videos. Data can be backed up and restored quicker, so there’s less waiting for archived content. For mobile PC users, it means having a single connector on their ultra-thin laptop that extends their high-speed media and HD display capabilities at home or in the office. Thunderbolt technology is complementary to other I/O technologies that Intel continues to support.

“Working with HD media is one of the most demanding things people do with their PCs,” said Mooly Eden, general manager, PC Client Group, Intel. “With Thunderbolt technology, Intel has delivered innovative technology to help professionals and consumers work faster and more easily with their growing collection of media content, from music to HD movies. We’ve taken the vision of simple, fast transfer of content between PCs and devices, and made it a reality.”

“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Intel to bring the groundbreaking Thunderbolt technology to Mac users,” said Bob Mansfield, Apple’s senior vice president of Mac Hardware Engineering. “With ultra-fast transfer speeds, support for high-resolution displays and compatibility with existing I/O technologies, Thunderbolt is a breakthrough for the entire industry and we think developers are going to have a blast with it.”

Thunderbolt technology is powered by an Intel controller chip, and uses a small connector suitable for mobile devices that will be included in products supporting the technology. Several innovative companies have announced Thunderbolt technology-based products, or currently plan to support Thunderbolt technology in upcoming products, including Aja*, Apogee*, Avid*, Blackmagic*, LaCie*, Promise*, and Western Digital*.Intel is working with the industry on a range of Thunderbolt technology-enabled products including computers, displays, storage devices, audio/video devices, cameras, docking stations and more.

NAMCO BANDAI PARTNERS TO DISTRIBUTE ‘STOKED™: BIG AIR’ IN AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND

– #1 Rated Snowboarding Game Coming in April for Xbox 360® and PC –

SYDNEY, Australia – 25th February 2011 – NAMCO BANDAI Partners S.A.S. gets ready to hit the slopes with the news that it has signed an agreement with developer Bongfish for the European and Australian distribution of Stoked™: Big Air for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC.  The highest rated current generation snowboarding game on Metacritic, Stoked: Big Air is scheduled for release in Australia and New Zealand for 14th April.

Faster, bigger, more accessible, and even more gorgeous than the previous edition, Stoked: Big Air was released to critical and fan acclaim in the US in 2010, with new features including racing, marked trails, lots of park objects to trick off, two new mountains, better visuals, and a faster, smoother riding model.  In addition, the European edition of Stoked: Big Air features two Flipside snowboarding video features from Absinthe Films as an exclusive bonus.

“It’s a rush to have the best Xbox 360 and PC snowboarding game around join our European distribution line up for winter 2011,” said Olivier Comte, VP Marketing, Sales & Publishing at NAMCO BANDAI Partners. “There have been many snowboarding games over the years, but none have offered the quality, gameplay depth and authenticity of Stoked: Big Air, and it’s very satisfying for us to be able to bring this superb European-developed game to European gamers.”

Stoked: Big Air gives players physical control of their rider through the analogue sticks, which eliminates the need for players to mash buttons or memorize combos and gives players the ability to craft their own riding and trick styles. As players complete challenges and win events with style, they gain sponsorships, gear, and clothing from over 30 real-world brands, including Burton, Libtech, Volcom, Dakine, Nikita, and Quicksilver, and they gain profiles of their exploits in leading snowboarding magazines, such as Snowboard Magazine.

Players have complete freedom to explore the authentically modelled slopes, and can take a helicopter ride anywhere to freeride down 7 real mountains.  Stoked: Big Air also introduces racing for both single-player and multiplayer modes. Three types of races are included: Head to Head Through Gates, Pack Racing Through Gates, and Freestyle First to the Bottom (multiplayer only).

Players can ride with the big boys and girls in the Pro Challenges, where they are challenged to match the moves or race against any one of seven different pros, including Travis Rice, Nicolas Müller, Gigi Rüf and Annie Boulanger.

Stoked: Big Air features seamless drop-in, drop-out multiplayer. Anytime, anywhere, on any mountain, players can instantly choose to free-ride with a posse of up to seven friends, or challenge them in a variety of competitive riding activities.

In addition to racing, players can compete in a variety of Big Air and Grind-fest events, compete on behalf of their sponsor to take control of a mountain in the Battle of the Brands, ride for media exposure, build a scrapbook of pictorial exploits, free-ride the mountain for high scores, and complete a variety of technical trick challenges.

Stoked: Big Air is developed by the Austrian snowboarding enthusiasts at Bongfish GmbH.
