The Tunnel” Free Global Download this Week and a Big Screen Cinema Release
Be a part of movie history this week when the most anticipated Australian horror flick of the year, “The Tunnel” is uploaded online for free global download on Wednesday May 18 2011.
Just days away, the film’s co-producers/writers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey will seed the file on the internet following an exclusive Popcorn Taxi screening and Q&A with the film-makers and Andrew Denton in Sydney.
Off the back of its sell-out Popcorn Taxi and festival screenings, “The Tunnel” will make its way to the big screen, scaring film-goers starting June 8 2001, at 7.30pm for four weeks at Hoyts EQ in Sydney.
“The Tunnel” has attracted international and local interest based on its unique crowd-funding and not so traditional distribution model – the film is destined to reach the one of largest audiences ever for an independent film with a simultaneous release via the BitTorrent online network, a cinema release, 2-disc DVD set and an Australian PAY-TV broadcast on May 18 2011.
”Even though our unusual distribution model challenges the conventional way of doing things and many heavyweights in the industry will be watching this with interest, what is ultimately most important to us, is delivering a great movie to our fans. It is an awesome feeling to finally be so close to pushing it live for all of them to see what they have made possible”, said co-writer/producer, Enzo Tedeschi.
“Allowing our audience to own the film in as many ways possible from day one was a primary goal from the start. By going out on multiple platforms simultaneously, The Tunnel fans have the ultimate power to experience the movie in whichever way they choose. Even if it means, free” said executive producer and marketing director, Ahmed Salama of DLSHS.

AVG (AU/NZ) and Secure Sentinel Work Together to Help Protect Australians/New Zealanders from Online and Offline Identity Theft and Fraud
AVG (AU/NZ) and Secure Sentinel Work Together to Help Protect Australians/New Zealanders from Online and Offline Identity Theft and Fraud
AVG (AU/NZ) Gives Customers Additional Tools to Help Fight Identity Theft
Melbourne, 16 May 2011 — AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd, the distributor of the award-winning AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security software in Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, has announced an agreement with Secure Sentinel. Between them, the two companies help protect customers against cyber crime and the theft of physical possessions, such as credit cards and smartphones, which are linked to personal identity and security. Secure Sentinel (part of the Veda Advantage group) is Australia and New Zealand’s leading provider of loss and theft assistance and identity theft monitoring and detection services.
While AVG provides online protection for the users of PCs, smartphones and tablets, the new link with Secure Sentinel can extend that protection to the physical loss of registered cards, keys, wallets, phones and passports with SecurePlus, as well as credit monitoring and alert services via SecureIdentity.
AVG (AU/NZ)’s managing director, Peter Cameron said: “AVG (AU/NZ) and Secure Sentinel have seen the synergies between our two areas of expertise and the potential for both our highly trusted brands to grow from this new relationship. This complementary product offering is a great tie-in for our customers.”
The banking and finance sector provides the largest channel in Secure Sentinel’s distribution network and the company is actively looking for corporate partnerships in other industries to sell its services and expand personal security education in the marketplace.
Suresh Mistry, Key Account Manager at Secure Sentinel, said: “The agreement with AVG (AU/NZ) is one of the first for us with a non-financial sector organisation. It signals the start of a holistic view of personal protection in the Australian and New Zealand marketplace, both offline and online.”
Getting protection in both the cyber and physical worlds is now fast and simple. Once an AVG (AU/NZ) customer completes their online transaction on the AVG (AU/NZ) web site, or clicks on any link to Secure Sentinel on the site, they will be told about the Secure Sentinel offer. The client then has the option to click through to Secure Sentinel for further service information and purchasing.
Identity theft is on the rise with 4.4 million Australians affected by identity fraud (source: Galaxy Research 2009) with more than half (67%) of those affected revealing they have not done anything to protect themselves from a future attack.
Mistry said: “Not only does this fraud problem affect lost or stolen cards, there are also around 200,000 mobile phones reported lost or stolen each year (source: Australian Telecommunications Association). Most people are unaware of how much unprotected personal identification information they carry in their wallets and phones. This is a very real problem and needs to be taken seriously by everyone.”
Until becoming a victim of identity fraud, few people realise the enormous impact of the theft. They can bear significant financial and emotional costs and may experience difficulties in regaining their identity. Victims may face financial problems, experience difficulties getting a job, a bank loan, a car lease or other credit, accessing government services and even renting a house.
Since 2008, surveys conducted by AVG have shown that approximately half the respondents in Australia and New Zealand are now very concerned about cyber crime.
AVG (AU/NZ) has a comprehensive range of security tips on its web site at http://www.avg.com.au/resources/security-tips/. For video tips from AVG (AU/NZ), see http://www.youtube.com/user/avgaunz.

EB Games helps keep Starlight doors open to seriously ill children
EB Games helps keep Starlight doors open to seriously ill children
The Starlight Children’s Foundation thanks EB Games Australia for its continued efforts to brighten the lives of seriously ill children on Starlight Day 2011.
Starlight Day kicked off in 371 EB Games stores nationally on the 27th of April to the 3rd of May, with the EB Games team hosting in-store competitions and collecting donations to raise $475,000 towards the target of $2.2 Million for Starlight Day 2011.
Debra McGrath, EB Games National Brand and Marketing Manager thanked all the generous customers for their support during Starlight Week: “EB Games would like to say a massive thank you to all our generous customers that donated or traded during Starlight Week. This year’s result is simply amazing and could not have been achieved without local community support right across Australia.”
Louise Baxter, CEO of the Starlight Children’s Foundation talks about the impact EB Games will have on Starlight programs: “The funds raised by EB Games and its staff will be vital in continuing to deliver our Starlight programs 7 days a week.”
“Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital. Thousands of these admissions will lead to a diagnosis that will impact upon the whole family, and change their lives forever. Starlight’s programs are developed to distract children in hospital from the pain and stress of their illness and transform their experience of illness and treatment into a positive one. Starlight relies on the generosity of partners like EB Games to continue to brighten the lives of these children.
Starlight’s relationship with EB Games began in 2007 with donations of gaming consoles to update the Starlight Express Rooms around the country and soon blossomed as EB Games joined the Starlight Day fundraising effort.
“EB Games are proud to be a Starlight supporter as it allows our whole team to give back not only in a monetary sense but most importantly in a personal sense through hospital visits and VIP Shopping Experiences. The joy that an individual can give a hospitalised child just by spending time with them is invaluable and we look forward to continue to dedicating our time to this special initiative”, McGrath stated.
Starlight will announce if it has reached its Starlight Day 2011 target of $2.2 Million at the end of May. Starlight is now calling for continued support throughout May, asking for people to host their own Star Party to add to the Starlight Day 2011 tally.
The concept is simple – hold a fundraiser at work, at school, or at home and help brighten the lives of seriously ill children. If you’re raising money for Starlight, we’re going to call it a STAR PARTY!
