New Specialised Intel® Atom™ Processor Targets Cars, Internet Phones

SYDNEY, Australia, March 3, 2009 – Advancing innovation around the Intel® Atom™ processor with a goal to target additional market segments, Intel Corporation today announced four unique versions of processors and two new system controller hub additions to the company’s “embedded” business division product line-up. The new products for the Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series include industrial-temperature options, as well as different package-size choices better suited for in-car infotainment devices, media phones, eco- technologies and other industrial-strength applications.

The low-power Intel Atom processor is behind much of Intel’s growth into several new computing-related market segments, extending the popular Intel® architecture to embedded industries such as automotive in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), industrial control and automation and media phones. These products also enable market segment innovation through advancements in integrated 2D and 3D graphics, video acceleration and support for multiple operating systems including several versions of Windows* and Linux*.

“With the addition of these new products, we can bring the benefits of Intel processors to new applications, devices and customers who develop products used in unconstrained thermal environments with low-power in mind,” said Doug Davis, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group and general manager, Embedded and Communications Group, Intel. “Meeting the needs of embedded environments and new market segments will play a large role in delivering the connectivity and functionality necessary as the number of devices connecting to the embedded Internet is expected to grow to an estimated 15 billion devices by 2015,” Davis added, citing a January report by IDC’s John Gantz titled “The Embedded Internet: Methodology and Findings.”

The Intel Atom processor is the company’s smallest, built with the world’s smallest and most energy-efficient transistors. Intel’s 30-year-old embedded computing division focuses on machines, devices and equipment that have computing and Internet capabilities but are not traditional PCs, laptops or servers. Intel offers an extended 7-year lifecycle for those areas that require longer product refresh cycles such as IVI.

“Intel is well known for innovation and we’re excited to see them introducing new low-power consumption Intel Atom processors targeted for in-vehicle systems,” said Greg Baribault, director of product management for the Automotive Business Unit at Microsoft*. “Intel Atom processors and the Microsoft Auto software platform will provide scalability for the new era of advanced in-vehicle solutions.”

In addition to in-car applications, the Intel Atom Z5xx processor series also targets an emerging category of Internet-based communications devices Intel calls “media phones.” The package size and power envelope of the Intel Atom Z5xx series are ideal for the media phone, which provides communications services over IP and easy, one-touch access to lifestyle applications such as e-mail, text messaging, weather information, YouTube*, horoscopes and digital photo albums.

To help accelerate this emerging device category, Intel today introduced an Intel® Media Phone Reference Design that will facilitate development of hardware solutions to market. The hardware development platform includes schematics and validated software stacks.

The new products will be available in the second quarter. For more information about the new options for the Intel Atom processor Z5xx series, visit developer.intel.com/design/intarch/atom500/index.htm.

Intel offers a broad spectrum of embedded silicon, technologies, components and tools that enable businesses to meet stringent platform requirements and competitive development schedules. Intel architecture-based processors provide enhanced energy-efficient performance within power and space constraints common for embedded applications. Intel, TSMC Reach Agreement to Collaborate on Technology Platform, IP Infrastructure, SoC Solutions

Intel to port Atom CPU cores to TSMC’s technology platform to expand market for Atom Processors SoC Customers

Sydney, Australia, March 3, 2009 – Intel Corporation and TSMC today announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on addressing technology platform, intellectual property (IP) infrastructure and System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions. Under the MOU, Intel would port its Atom processor CPU cores to the TSMC technology platform including processes, IP, libraries and design flows. The collaboration is intended to expand Intel’s Atom SoCs availability for Intel customers for a wider range of applications through integration with TSMC’s diverse IP infrastructure.

This MOU is an important step in a long-term strategic technology cooperation between Intel and TSMC. With this joint effort, Intel intends to significantly broaden the market opportunities for its Intel Atom SoCs and accelerate deployment of the architecture through multiple SoC implementations. At the same time, TSMC extends its technology platform to serve the Intel Architecture market segments.

“We believe this effort will make it easier for customers with significant design expertise to take advantage of benefits of the Intel Architecture in a manner that allows them to customise the implementation precisely to their needs,” said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO.  “The combination of the compelling benefits of our Atom processor combined with the experience and technology of TSMC is another step in our long-term strategic relationship.”

“TSMC values our strategic relationship with Intel. This MOU brings together the Intel Architecture and the TSMC technology platform. We expect this collaboration will help proliferate the Atom processor SoC and foster overall semiconductor growth,” said Dr. Rick Tsai, president and CEO of TSMC. “With this agreement, our technology platform extends beyond the two companies’ current collaboration to support future Intel embedded x86 products.”

The Intel Atom processor features 47 million transistors and is Intel’s smallest processor. Products manufactured through the agreement may find adoption in embedded CPU market segments such as Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), smart-phones, netbooks, nettops and AC-powered consumer electronics devices. The processor is designed to bring the whole Internet and the benefits of computing to an emerging class of consumer-friendly devices.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5 Upgrade Includes LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf

AVG continues its commitment to providing free basic protection for all PC users

Melbourne, 3 March 2009 – AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd, the Australian, New Zealand and South Pacific distributor of the AVG range of Anti-Virus and Internet Security software, today announced the availability of AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5. This latest version of AVG Technologies’ popular and widely-used free security software now adds LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf real-time protection to the existing anti-virus, anti-spyware and safe-searching capabilities.

Today’s web threats move at lightning speed and only stay around long enough to scoop up their victim quota, so real-time detection is vital. LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf checks the web page behind every link for hidden threats at the only time that matters – when users click on that link.

AVG’s LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf further enhances users’ protection against unknown threats by analysing web pages in real time for hidden threats and exploits such as drive-by downloads. Unlike other safe-surf products which rely on historical data acquired by periodically scanning sites across the Internet based on a variety of criteria, LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf bases its safety ratings on real-time analysis of individual web pages, ensuring an accurate assessment of a page’s current status.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers running Windows 2000, XP or Vista. While AVG Technologies and local distributor AVG (AU/NZ) do not provide telephone or e-mail support for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.0, the company hosts a web site and forum for user-driven support which can be accessed via www.avgfree.com.au. Interested users can download the software from this web site.

Product availability

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5 with LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf is available now online at www.avgfree.com.au.

AVG (AU/NZ) Announces AVG Internet Security 8.5 with Identity Protection

Major upgrade prevents identity theft, plus blocks new and unknown threats.

Melbourne, 3 March 2009 – AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd, the Australian, New Zealand and South Pacific distributor of the AVG range of Anti-Virus and Internet Security software, today announced the availability of AVG Internet Security 8.5 with Identity Protection (IDP). This is the latest version of the flagship Internet Security suite from AVG Technologies for home consumers, plus small businesses.

AVG Internet Security 8.5 with IDP delivers a significant number of new benefits to users including enhanced protection against identity theft plus real-time protection against the tens of thousands of new and threats that emerge every day.

The inclusion of AVG Identity Protection in the full suite AVG Internet Security 8.5 product is specifically focused on helping to prevent thieves from using carefully-targeted attacks to steal passwords, bank account details, credit card numbers, and other digital valuables. It uses a technology called behavioural analysis to make sure all the programs running on a user’s computer are operating the way they should. If it spots something suspicious that could indicate an attempted ID theft attack, it shuts that activity down, preventing any possible theft from happening.

AVG Internet Security 8.5 with IDP now provides total protection for all aspects of users’ online lives, defending home users against viruses, spyware, worms, hackers, botnets, poisoned web pages, trojan horses, spam, identity theft and other cyber threats with a full arsenal of digital weaponry. Whether users are surfing, e-mailing or downloading files, AVG Internet Security 8.5 stops threats from becoming problems.

“We know the security challenges users face in their daily lives,” says J.R. Smith, CEO of AVG Technologies. “Our products are designed to prevent those challenges from becoming problems, leaving users free to get on with their digital lives. They’re easy to set up, easy to use, easy to find – and some of them are even free, forever.”

AVG Identity Protection is based around the technology AVG Technologies acquired when it bought the Sana Security company earlier this year. This technology helps to prevent identity-related attacks by analysing the behaviour and characteristics of malicious programs and using the knowledge gained to create protection that doesn’t require “signature updates” to stay current. The software is continuously learning and improving its protection, based on information drawn from real threats encountered by real users, ensuring that users are always protected against new and unknown threats.

“Tens of thousands of new virus samples arrive in security companies’ labs every day,” says AVG Technologies CTO Karel Obluk. “It is simply not feasible for traditional signature-based anti-virus to keep up with this level of activity from the bad guys. So while it’s important to continue to use anti-virus to protect against the known viruses that are out there ‘in the wild’, it’s vital for users to have an additional protective layer against the unknown.”

AVG LinkScanner, which is also incorporated in AVG Internet Security 8.5, further enhances users’ protection against unknown online threats by analysing web pages in real time for hidden threats and exploits such as drive-by downloads.

Product availability and pricing

AVG Internet Security 8.5 with IDP is priced to protect up to 3 PCs for one year for less than A$100. This includes free telephone support during Melbourne business hours, backed up by free 24/7 technical support by e-mail.

AVG Internet Security 8.5 with IDP is available singly and in multi-license packs for 2, 3, 5 and 10 PCs, with a licence period of 1 or 2 years. AVG 8.5 supports Windows computers running 32-bit and native 64-bit Windows operating systems.

The AVG 8.5 security product range for consumers and small business is available for purchase and download from www.avg.com.au, plus through a network of more than 2100 independent software resellers throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

AVG launches new protection against identity theft

New AVG Identity Protection prevents identity theft and blocks unknown threats

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, 2nd March 2009 – AVG Technologies today has announced a new product, AVG Identity Protection (IDP); plus major upgrades to AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5, AVG Internet Security 8.5, and the entire AVG product range for consumers, small business and enterprises. (See separate releases for AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 8.5, AVG Internet Security 8.5 with IDP and AVG E-Mail Server 8.5.)

Identity theft is now the number one Internet-based crime, costing computer users more than US$50 billion in the US and UK alone. In Australia the cost of identity theft is estimated to be more than A$1.5 billion. To help users protect their personal and private information online, AVG Technologies, developer of the world’s leading free computer security product, today introduces AVG Identity Protection (IDP).

AVG Identity Protection gives computer users an additional layer of protection on top of their existing security software. IDP is specifically focused on helping to prevent thieves from using carefully-targeted attacks to steal passwords, bank account details, credit card numbers, and other digital valuables. It uses a technology called behavioural analysis to make sure all the programs running on a user’s computer are operating the way they should. If it spots something suspicious that could indicate an attempted ID theft attack, it shuts that activity down, preventing any possible theft from happening. It doesn’t matter whether users are running AVG software or security software from another vendor; IDP runs smoothly alongside all popular programs to keep users safer when they’re online.

“Computer users need to be confident that, when they’re banking and shopping online, they won’t become a victim of identity theft,” says AVG Technologies CEO J.R. Smith. “Anti-virus alone can’t give users the level of security people need in today’s complex, fast-moving threat landscape. AVG Identity Protection gives them the confidence that they’re safe from the bad guys.”

A peek under the hood

AVG Identity Protection is based around the technology AVG acquired when it bought the Sana Security company earlier this year.

Product availability and pricing

AVG Identity Protection is priced at A$33.99 for a one year, single user licence. This includes free telephone support during Melbourne business hours, backed up by free 24/7 technical support by e-mail.

AVG Identity Protection and the rest of the AVG 8.5 product range is available for purchase and download from www.avg.com.au, plus throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific through a network of more than 2100 independent software resellers.

NAMCO ANNOUNCES ‘DEAD TO RIGHTS®: RETRIBUTION’

– Gritty Crime-Action Series is Reinvented on Xbox 360® and PLAYSTATION®3 with New Combat System that Seamlessly Blends Shooting and Hand-to-Hand Brawling –

– 25 February 2009 –  NAMCO today announced the forthcoming launch of Dead to Rights® : Retribution, a ground-up reinvention of the multi-million unit selling crime action series for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, developed by Volatile Games. Thrusting players into a mature neo-noir crime drama as a vice-cop Jack Slate and his canine companion Shadow, the game introduces new gameplay elements that unify the third person shooting and brawling genres for a brutal and relentless new action-driven experience.

Returning to Grant City, a boom town gone bust that is falling to the worst excesses of crime, greed and corruption, Dead to Rights: Retribution follows vice-cop Jack Slate as he fights to expose shadowy figures that will stop at nothing to exert their deadly influence over the crumbling metropolis. Dead to Rights: Retribution will form an original story portraying key events that shape and define Jack Slate’s character including how he and Shadow first come together as partners against those who would bring the once great city to its knees.

Introducing an innovative new hybrid combat system, Dead to Rights: Retribution puts the full combat potential of a highly trained, highly agitated law-enforcement officer into players’ hands. Use your sidearm to pick off enemies from a distance, take cover and blind-fire with the game’s new ranged combat mechanics, or push the issue by taking human shields, stealing weapons with special disarm moves or dishing out Jack’s own brutal brand of justice with deadly takedown moves. Jack is equally lethal in close-quarters combat, offering players branching melee combos, counterattacks and disarms as they take the fight to the criminal element of Grant City. Jack will encounter a variety of ruthless gangs in the filthy slums and menacing alleys of Grant City, each with their own unique abilities and fighting style that will test his resolve to crush their murderous stranglehold.

Deadly on their own, Jack and Shadow are even more formidable as they team up to defeat the threats they will uncover.  Players will take full control of not only Jack, but also Shadow at various points in the game to stalk enemies or reach areas of the environment that are not accessible by one or the other. Shadow’s heightened senses make him skilled in detecting new threats or flushing out enemies from cover so that Jack can easily dispense with them.

Developed by Volatile Games, Dead to Rights: Retribution will launch for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 in 2009. For more information, please visit www.namcobandaigames.com or www.deadtorights.com.
