EA FORECASTS THE WORLD’S DEADLIEST WINTER WHEN DEAD SPACE 3 RELEASES ON FEBRUARY 7, 2013

Dead Space 3 Limited Edition Gives Players Advanced Spacesuits and Weapons to Help Overcome Deadly Necromorphs and the Icy, Harsh Alien Terrain

SYDNEY, Australia – Aug. 14, 2012 – Surviving violent, subzero conditions while fighting gigantic creatures, human enemies and blood-thirsty Necromorphs won’t be as easy as it sounds! Gamers can go it alone, or fortunately for fans everywhere, they will have the chance to face these terrors with a friend when Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio launches Dead Space 3 in Australia on February 7, 2013 (8 February 2013 in NZ). From the lonely depths of space, to a graveyard of derelict spaceships, to a frozen planet with brutal conditions, Dead Space 3 takes action and terror to incredible new heights. In Dead Space 3, the fate of mankind rests in the hands of engineer Isaac Clarke and his new merciless co-op partner, John Carver. Survival is more difficult than ever before, but Visceral Games announced today that fans who pre-order the Dead Space 3 Limited Edition at participating retailers will have the advantage of using two bonus* suits and weapons, right when they start the game.

The Dead Space 3 Limited Edition provides gamers with first access to two game bundles: “First Contact” and “Witness the Truth” – each of which contains an advanced suit and devastating new weapon. These hand-crafted weapon combinations act as initial blueprints for the millions of permutations players will be able to create using the all-new weapon crafting system in the game.

“First Contact” Bundle • First Contact Suit: This unique EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) suit was built by the SCAF (Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces) for encounters with “foreign entities.” It sports a flamboyant golden finish to provide protection from long-term space exposure and thick armor for… unspecified reasons. The suit was given the nickname “First Contact” by the scientists who made it.
• Negotiator Weapon: While technically classified by the SCAF as a “scientific instrument,” the gold-plated “Negotiator” is loaded with some surprisingly aggressive hardware. The overclocked, top-mounted Tesla Beam is capable of bursting a man-sized organism into several pieces with a single shot. The bottom-mounted Linegun appears to have been built with the sole purpose of cleanly dismembering organic tissue from a distance.

”Witness the Truth” Bundle • Witness Suit: These insulated suits were worn by a SCAF deep dig team assigned to exhume the darkest secrets of Tau Volantis. Whatever they found locked deep in the ice changed them forever. When they emerged weeks later, they were covered head to toe in strange graffiti and claimed to be “Witnesses to the Truth.”
• Evangelizer Weapon: A modification of the standard AL-2 used by the Sovereign Colonies Legionaries, this version sports a souped-up AL-2g assault rifle on the top with an Emerson 2100 “Big Boy” tactical shotgun on the bottom. The surviving “Witnesses” of the SCAF deep dig team dubbed it the Evangelizer and decorated them top to bottom with strange symbols.

Winner of more than 15 critic awards at E3 2012 including Best of Show from Game Informer Magazine (third largest consumer magazine in the U.S.**), Dead Space 3 cuts to the heart of deep space terror. The game is recognized by game critics worldwide for its incredible craftsmanship in horror, action, suspense and sound design. Players will embark on a thrilling ride through space that takes them to a hostile new planet, Tau Volantis. Fortunately, they are not alone this time around. The fully integrated drop-in/drop-out co-op feature gives players the option to play alone or team-up with a friend anytime. Players that choose to take down the terror together will experience additional story details, side missions and gameplay mechanics only found when playing as John Carver.

Dead Space 3 is being developed for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and on PC. This product has not yet been rated by the Australian Classification Board. Follow us on twitter at: www.twitter.com/deadspace. Become a fan on Facebook at www.facebook.com/deadspace. Japanese Carrier Fighter Aircraft Announced for World of Warplanes

14 August 2012 — Wargaming today announced that warplanes from the Japanese Imperial Air Service will soon take to the skies in its highly anticipated flight combat MMO World of Warplanes.

The carrier-based fighter class will become the first available branch of aircraft for the Japanese line of warbirds, and will include a number of iconic aircraft. Players will be able to get behind the cockpit of the legendary Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, a plane that proved vital to Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater. Other aircraft include the Nakajima Type 91, the twin-boom Mitsubishi J4M1 Senden interceptor fighter, as well as the Kyushu J7W1, J7W2 and J7W3, three canard configuration prototypes that never saw combat.

“The inclusion of Japanese warbirds has given us the opportunity to explore a number of iconic aircraft as well as give players the chance to experience first-hand how they developed and evolved throughout World War II”, said Anton Sitnikau, World of Warplanes Producer. “Since each aircraft is unique, it’s really going to provide players with a wide variety of tactical freedom in how they play the game and combat other players.”

Japanese World War II aircraft garnered a fearsome reputation amongst Western nations, namely due to their combination of speed and power. Their exceptional horizontal maneuverability made them extremely nimble in combat, while their impressive array of armaments made them deadly in any engagement. Japanese warbirds also typically benefitted from increased field of vision which gave pilots ample views around their aircraft.

World of Warplanes is currently in its closed beta. Virtual pilots are invited to test out the game’s features, and master their combat skills in head-spinning aerial action in 60 different aircraft from Germany, the United States and the U.S.S.R, across four unique maps.

Symantec Big Data Solution Makes Apache Hadoop Enterprise Ready

Leveraging partnership with Hortonworks, Cluster File System technology enables customers to get timely business insights with their existing infrastructure

SYDNEY, Australia. – August 14, 2012 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced an add-on solution for Symantec’s Cluster File System that enables customers to run Big Data analytics on their existing infrastructure by making it highly available and manageable. Apache Hadoop offers customers significant value to drive revenue by helping analyse data for business insights, however many existing data solutions lack the data management capabilities and built-in resilience to overcome the cost and complexity of increasing storage and server sprawl. By working closely with Hortonworks, the new Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop offering provides a scalable, resilient data management solution for handling Big Data workloads to help make Apache Hadoop ready for enterprise deployment.

Symantec’s Cluster File System is a proven enterprise solution to address Big Data workloads. With Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop, organisations can:

  • Leverage      their existing infrastructure by scaling up to 16 PB of data including      structured and unstructured data
  • Avoid      over provisioning on both storage and compute capacity
  • Run      analytics wherever the data sits, eliminating expensive data moves
  • Make      Hadoop highly available without a potential single point of failure or a      performance bottleneck

Read more detailed blog posts: http://bit.ly/P3dtSA

Leveraging Existing Infrastructure and Avoiding Over Provisioning
IT administrators have spent considerable time and resources consolidating their data centers and reducing their footprint through virtualisation and cloud computing. Taking advantage of Big Data analytics should leverage this consolidation of storage and compute resources. Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop enables customers to run Hadoop while minimising investments in a parallel infrastructure – greatly reducing the storage footprint to reduce cost and complexity.

Analysing Data Where it Resides and Eliminating Expensive Data Moves
The first step in making the Hadoop infrastructure work is to funnel data for analysis. By enabling integration of existing storage assets into the Hadoop processing framework, organisations can avoid time consuming and costly data movement activities. Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop allows administrators to leave the data where it resides and run analytics on it without having to extract, transform and load it to a separate cluster – avoiding expensive and painful data migrations.

Ensuring Hadoop is Highly Available
In an Apache Hadoop environment, data is distributed across nodes with only one metadata server that knows the data location – potentially resulting in a performance bottleneck and single point of failure that could lead to application downtime. To meet the need for timely insights, Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop provides file system high availability to the metadata server while also ensuring analytics applications continue to run as long as there is at least one working node in the cluster. Since the Hadoop file system is replaced with Symantec’s Cluster File System, each node in the cluster can also access data simultaneously, eliminating both the performance bottleneck and single point of failure.

Pricing, Availability and Support
The Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop is available now to existing Cluster File System customers at no additional charge. Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop supports Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) 1.0 and Apache Hadoop 1.0.2. Customers running HDP 1.0 will be able to get Hadoop support and training from Symantec’s Hadoop partner Hortonworks, a leading commercial vendor promoting the innovation, development and support of Apache Hadoop.

Supporting Quotes
“Customers can’t afford to let the challenges of implementing Big Data translate into management challenges within the infrastructure they’ve worked so hard to build,” said Don Angspatt, vice president of product management, Storage and Availability Management Group, Symantec Corp. “Our Enterprise Solution for Hadoop helps connect Hadoop’s business analytics to the existing storage environment while addressing key challenges of server sprawl and high availability for critical applications. It’s now entirely possible to get the Big Data solution you want from the infrastructure you’ve got.”

“Hortonworks is excited to partner with Symantec to provide customers robust business analytics without having to rebuild their IT infrastructure,” said Mitch Ferguson, vice president of business development, Hortonworks. “The Hortonworks Data Platform is built upon the most stable version of Apache Hadoop and Symantec provides the market leading storage management and high availability software with their Cluster File System to enable seamless implementation. We look forward to providing best-in-class support and training to help customers run Hadoop in their existing environment and drive their businesses forward to the next level.”

“Enterprises are looking to leverage the power of Hadoop analytics to see if Hadoop-supported applications can drive critical business decisions. Therefore, IT management will need the confidence that their Hadoop-related infrastructure is prepared to stand up to the demands of a production data center environment,” said John Webster, Senior Partner of Evaluator Group. “Symantec Enterprise Solution for Hadoop is one example of a tool designed to smooth the transition from pilot project to production by addressing key data center challenges including high availability, security, data protection, and data governance.”
