UBISOFT® RELEASES THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN – THE GAME

Videogame based on the anticipated Spielberg and Jackson movie is out now.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Dec 2, 2011 –Ubisoft has announced the release of The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn – The Game in Australia. Based on the eponymous movie directed by Steven Spielberg and co-produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy, the game has been developed by Ubisoft Montpellier in close collaboration with the filmmakers. It will give old time and new Tintin fans the opportunity to relive the key moments of the movie as well as to enjoy fun cooperative adventures and multiplayer challenges. Featuring high-quality graphics, environments, characters and gameplay in line with the movie’s innovative graphics and production, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn – The Game is out now on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, Nintendo 3DS™ and Wii™.

The game features three different modes: Solo, Cooperative and Challenge, for more than 20 hours of total game time. The Solo Mode of the game follows the events of the movie that blends in one great adventure various elements of Hergé’s original Tintin comic books The Crabe with Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. Players will re-discover the movie’s enchanting environments, such as Captain Haddock’s ship the Karaboudjan, Ben Salaad’s Palace or the exotic city of Bagghar. The solo game is a unique blend of platforming, exploration, puzzle-solving and “exotic gameplays” such as swordfighting, ace combat and side-car driving. Players will embody Tintin, the intrepid reporter, and other main characters, each having its own personality and skills. Other sidekicks will appear when help is needed.

From start to finish, the Cooperative Mode is staged in Captain Haddock’s dream world. In the space of a few days, the captain has been transformed from an ‘old wreck languishing at sea’ to the direct descendant of a famous knight to the king. The captain’s dreams are pretty hectic and he has to try to get his thoughts in order. Players get to play Tintin, Captain Haddock, Snowy, Bianca Castafiore, Thompson and Thomson or Sir Francis Haddock and have to help each other to solve new mysteries. They have to combine their skills and collect treasures to unlock new exciting levels.

The third mode is the Challenge Mode, dedicated to all who are looking for a little extra competition. Leveraging the swordfighting, side-car driving and ace combat gameplay, it allows players to confront themselves to the AI and try to beat each other’s scores.

Last but not least, the Xbox 360 version supports Kinect™ while the PlayStation®3 version supports PlayStation®Move. Specific features have been developed to take advantage of both accessories’ intuitive controls. Still both versions can be fully enjoyed even if players don’t own a Kinect™ or a PlayStation®Move.

Symantec Managed Security Services Positioned as a Leader in Magic Quadrant and Rated Strong Positive in MarketScopes for Europe and Asia/Pacific

SYDNEY, Australia – 2 December, 2011 – Symantec Corp. today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner Inc. in the Leaders Quadrant of the 2011 Magic Quadrant for Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) North America report1. In addition, Symantec received “Strong Positive” ratings in Gartner’s MarketScope Reports for Managed Security Services in both Europe2 and Asia/Pacific3. Symantec Managed Security Services combine global threat intelligence, enterprise-wide monitoring, advanced analytics and expert staff to protect enterprises around the world from known and emerging threats.

“With more sophisticated cyber attacks coming from outside the enterprise and evolving IT infrastructure on the inside, the risk of information loss is rising. More than ever, organisations recognise the need to actively monitor their environments for signs of malicious activity to ensure their information is safe,” said Grant Geyer, vice president of the Threat and Risk Management Group at Symantec. “We believe our position as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for MSSPs and our ‘Strong Positive’ ratings in the MSS MarketScopes for Europe and Asia/Pacific confirm Symantec’s strong vision and sustained global commitment to protecting our customers’ assets and information.”

“Gartner sees continued strong, if not spectacular, growth for managed security services (MSSs) in North America,” notes the Magic Quadrant report, which positions vendors based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. “Compliance requirements (formal and those created by large business partners or customers) continue to drive MSS adoption, especially for midsize and smaller businesses. Across buyers of all sizes, an inability to increase head count, greater acceptance of outsourcing IT activities, and implementation of additional security technologies or controls such as data loss prevention (DLP) or application monitoring also drive MSS.”

According to the report, MSSPs realised North American revenue of $2.3 billion in 2010, up from $1.8 billion in 2009. The report predicts MSS revenue will have grown to $2.8 billion in 2011. The report also states that the global economic environment continues to drive businesses to limit hiring and increase demand for managed services.

“Managed security services are mature, but buyers must carefully define the scope and depth of services required, and assess the delivery capabilities and options available from providers,” notes the Magic Quadrant report. “Enterprises that optimise their use of managed security service providers (MSSPs) can free up internal staff time for dealing with more-business-critical security functions if they select MSSP services that can integrate with internal security operations.”

In addition, according to the MarketScope Reports for MSS in Europe and Asia/Pacific, the markets for MSS have grown in both regions, despite continuing global economic instability. During the past 12 months, the European MSS market grew as anticipated, and will probably reach $2.5 billion by year-end 2011. Gartner expects growth to continue, with a compound annual growth rate of 14 percent from 2011 to 2015, which means it is still one of the growth sectors in the IT industry. In Asia/Pacific, adoption of MSSs in the region has continued to grow, producing an average 18 percent revenue growth in 2010 (a decrease from 31 percent in 2009) to an approximate total revenue of $558 million as reported by MSSPs active in the region.

“The continuing global economic turmoil has discouraged enterprises from capital investment in security infrastructure and additional personnel costs for new security staff,” notes the MarketScope for MSS in Asia/Pacific. “Gartner does not anticipate strong growth in overall IT spending in client organisations in the next 18 months. This fiscal conservatism has motivated a number of enterprises to leverage MSS to support security improvements, continuing regulatory compliance and service expansion for business operations. Gartner expects that continuing uncertainties in the global economy will reinforce this trend, with the direct result of stronger growth in MSS client numbers and revenue.”

Symantec MSS delivers 24×7 security monitoring and management services by expert security staff to organisations around the world. Symantec MSS takes a comprehensive, “edge to endpoint” monitoring approach to provide broad visibility of activity across an enterprise’s infrastructure, and leverages threat intelligence from the Symantec Global Intelligence Network and advanced correlation and analysis capabilities to deliver a prioritised list of actionable security incidents to enterprise security teams.

NeverDead limb-ers up for February release

KONAMI dates original horror-themed title for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®

SYDNEY, 2 December, 2011: Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH will release its demonic action title NeverDead for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® on February 3rd, 2012, the publisher has confirmed.

The brainchild of Shinta Nojiri, and co-developed with Rebellion Software, NeverDead stars an immortal hero called Bryce Boltzmann who, alongside his partner Arcadia, works for an agency tasked with dealing with demonic incursions. As demons from the dawn of time emerge on present-day Earth, so Bryce – armed with an arsenal of guns and a Butterfly-Blade – and the gun-toting Arcadia must locate and destroy the hostile invaders. As the malformed adversaries appear, the heavily-armed Bryce must protect his sidekick and work together to kill them all.

However, as the monsters get larger and more vicious, the side-effect of Bryce’s immortality is revealed. For, as the player is attacked by the various miscreants, Bryce can be torn limb from limb, but can simply reattach the parts to his body. Even when all limbs have been removed, Bryce can roll around as a head, looking to reattach his lost parts. He can even use his amputated body parts as weapons, throwing arms into clusters of monsters, and still firing the attached gun, or lobbing his head into seemingly impossible areas, to gain access to new parts of the map.

“For NeverDead, we‘ve gone all out to change the approach the player takes in battle,” explained Shinta Nojiri, creator of NeverDead for Konami Digital Entertainment. “Losing a limb is a mere inconvenience and Bryce’s physical skills allow a wealth of ways to take out the enemy – from close-range combat, to throwing limbs into clusters of monsters and shooting them remotely! This adds a level of humour to the game that brings the world-weary main character to life, while players can revel in game worlds that can are fully interactive and eminently destructible.”

KONAMI has also confirmed that NeverDead will also be the focus of DLC elements and add-ons, further details for which will follow soon.

NeverDead will be released for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® on February 3rd, 2012

  12. Andriel’s Sanctuary spell is great for protection from enemy ranged attacks, but it can also heal, providing you a safe place to rest, or go on the ranged offensive.
  13. Many looted items are usable or equippable, but some are just useful for selling to merchants for coin. When speaking with a merchant, press the indicated button to sell all unessential items.
  14. If you are playing as Eradan or Farin, use your arrows and bolts wisely, as you can only carry a limited amount. Enter Ranged Mode or view your Inventory to see how many arrows you can carry. If you need more, they are available at merchants or as loot.

Survey Reveals 75% of SMBs Do Not Understand Threats Posed by Reliance on Mobile Phones and Tablets

AVG’s 2011 SMB Market Landscape Report reveals SMBs open to costly security breaches and information theft.

MELBOURNE, 1 December 2011AVG (AU/NZ) Pty Ltd, the distributor of the award-winning AVG Internet and mobile security software in Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, warns how important it is for small to medium sized businesses to understand the risks posed by their organisations’ growing reliance on mobile technologies.

AVG Technologies’ annual SMB Market Landscape Report, which tracks the security attitudes and practices of companies with up to 100 employees, has revealed that almost 75 percent of respondents did not realise the dangers of having outdated security regimes in place for the mobile devices they provide to staff, or those owned by employees and used at work.

Michael McKinnon, Security Advisor at AVG (AU/NZ), said: “New mobility technologies are providing tremendous opportunities for flexibility and efficiency but they also expose businesses to the very costly impacts of hacking and Internet malware.”

He stresses how vital it is to acknowledge that, despite their size, smartphones and tablets are powerful, Internet-connected mobile computers, with vital business and personal information being carried on them. And, because of their size, can be easily misplaced, lost or stolen. Combine this with a 273 percent* rise in mobile malware in the first half of 2011 and such devices are a growing security risk that SMBs must address quickly.

From the Report, one in ten of the organisations surveyed has deployed business applications on tablet devices, a threefold increase on figures from the 2010 survey. The fast-paced development of Android mobile technologies over the past year appears to have filtered down to SMB level, where almost one in ?ve companies are now using these devices.

Half the responding organisations give employees remote access to their networks, with the typical telecommuting worker spending one day a week away from their of?ce. Most popular locations for remote working are from home (71%), while on the move (47%) and from wireless hotspots (35%) which open businesses to the highest level of risk.

McKinnon strongly advises properly securing smartphones and tablet devices with purpose-designed security solutions, such as AVG’s Mobilation package for Android.

McKinnon says “Awareness of common features such as those available in AVG Mobilation that allow lost or stolen devices to be easily located or remotely wiped, is still not widely adopted, yet is vital for all SMBs to protect important data.”

And, anti-virus and Internet protection offered by AVG’s Internet Security Business Edition 2012 should be kept current for all computers and mobile devices that are brought in or taken home by staff, contractors, clients and visitors.
