AUSTRALIA’S GROUND BREAKING CIRCA RETURNS TO THE MALTHOUSE THEATRE WITH WUNDERKAMMER
After sell-out seasons across the world, Australia’s ground-breaking Circa returns to Melbourne with a breathless cocktail of new circus, cabaret and vaudeville – Wunderkammer. Sexy, funny and explosive, its control and abandon, skill and humour, lyricism and anarchy meld into a sinuous fugue of profound beauty.
Circa is world-renowned for creating startling new ways to experience circus. Combining seemingly impossible physical feats with a poetic sensibility, its creations move, amaze and astonish. In Wunderkammer, an exquisite cabaret of the senses, a diva melts into a rope, balloons and bubble wrap discover their artistic souls while bodies twist and fly. Seven performers of unbelievable ability bend the very fabric of reality.
Hailing from Brisbane Circa is responsible for a bold new vision of contemporary circus. Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz and his talented company are a dynamic force in circus. Wunderkammer is a blending of bodies, light, sound and skills, a place where acrobatics and movement meld into a seamless whole, a celebration of the expressive possibilities of the human body at its extremes. Since 2006 Circa has toured to 24 countries across five continents and its work has been rapturously received by audiences, presenters and critics around the world.
In 2012 Circa was honoured with a Helpmann Award for Best Visual or Physical Theatre Production, and has again been nominated for this year’s awards in the Best Regional Touring Production category. It recently won a Brighton Festival award in the UK for How Like An Angel and Circa’s newest production Opus had its World Premiere in Lyon, France in June.
Circa also runs a Training Centre with an impressive workshop program in Brisbane at its professional studio, in schools and with partners throughout Queensland and beyond. Circa has an impressive track record of producing quality workshops for children, young people and adults in a range of community contexts. In 2011 Circa’s Training Centre programs reached an audience of over 20,000 people.
Featuring fresh, contemporary soundscapes, a young and gifted ensemble, and produced under the outstanding artistic direction of Yaron Lifschitz, Circa provides a rare opportunity to see one of Australia’s most successful contemporary performance exports up close and personal.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see circus stripped back straight to the heart.

PACIFIC RIM 3D IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST-SEE IN IMAX!
Yes it’s packed full of clichés, stereotypes and terrible Aussie accents but Pacific Rim 3D also delivers the best big screen spectacle we’ve seen in a long time! It’s entertainment in its purest form – we loved it and know you will too, but don’t just take our word for it, here’s what reviewers are saying –
“The vision that del Toro is pursuing in these epic action sequences is quite unlike anything seen on screen before… The mesmerising special effects work in Pacific Rim – especially when welded to a bone-shaking sound design – amounts to a force field that magnetically conquers your attention, then overpowers the senses with ease,” – Leigh Paatsch, Herald Sun
“Michael Bay eat your heart out. Guillermo del Toro has made one bigger, louder, faster and more destructive than you. Pacific Rim 3D is Transformers on steroids, Godzilla to the power of 10, The Avengers turbo-charged and bigger-suited than Iron Man,” – Andrew L. Urban, Urban Cinefile.
“…picture Ripley suited up all Tron like to take on an alien in a suit the size of a Manhattan high rise….deserves to be seen on the big screen – the bigger the better,” – Laura Clifford, Reeling Reviews.
We have the big screen covered, plus the IMAX presentation of Pacific Rim 3D will be specially formatted for the IMAX screen allowing you to see more of the image, further immersing you into the vast scale and scope of the movie and providing an up-close, you-are-there experience that can’t be missed.

RAGE OF THE GLADIATOR™ FREE-TO-PLAY COMING TO iOS THIS WEDNESDAY
RAGE OF THE GLADIATOR™ FREE-TO-PLAY COMING TO iOS THIS WEDNESDAY
WARSAW, Poland—July 9th 2013—Gamelion Studios (http://www.game-lion.com) has just announced Rage of the Gladiator™, the critically acclaimed hit game, has been re-envisioned as a completely new experience and is being released this Wednesday on July 10th 2013 as a FREE iOS title for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices.
Rage of the Gladiator is a fantasy fighting game. You control a gladiator, fighting for your life in an arena. Armed with your magical warhammer and a trusty shield, you must defeat fantastic bosses including a Chimera, Beholder, and a Dragon.
“Rage of the Gladiator is a series of epic boss-battles,” said Ed Roman, the game’s designer. “There are no ‘fodder’ enemies – its all bosses, which we find to be the most fun part of games! The game is similar to other first-person brawler games such as Infinity Blade, but requires more thinking and has greater depth of play.”
In Rage of the Gladiator, each boss has unique abilities and powers that you need to pay close attention to. Exploit the weakness of each enemy by jumping, dodging, or shield blocking with the proper timing and agility. Then unleash your rage by brutally pounding your enemy with your warhammer and bashing them with your shield, and you will triumph.
The title has received praise including:
- Game of the Year (Action), TouchArcade
- Game of the Week, PocketGamer
- “must have”, SlideToPlay review – 4/4
- “Console-quality action”, 148Apps review – 4/5
Features of the game include:
- Insane “finishing moves.” You have 14 finishing moves that destroy your opponent in over-the-top cutscenes:
- Leap to the skies, then plunge your warhammer into the ground, creating a pillar of fire that burns your enemy to a crisp.
- Transform into a hulking colossus 10 times the size of your opponent, pounding him into the ground.
- Darken the skies with a solar eclipse, sending a beam of light to fry your enemy.
- Fantastic 3D-graphics. Fully rendered and realistic, you do combat in a beautifully rendered 3D arena. This polish level is rare for a downloadable title.
- Extremely realistic animations. When you attack bosses, the impacts and hits feel “real.” Each boss has been painstakingly animated to react properly to each of your attacks.
- Epic soundtrack. The music has been designed to be exciting and memorable, and really gets your blood pumping.
The new free-to-play version has the following exciting additions:
- All-new achievement mission battles. Can you survive them all? 90+ battles in total!
- Unlock the legendary Brutal Victory skill via daily rewards.
- All new weapons, armor, shields, and helmets available to customize your character.
- Magical items and treasure chests to help you progress.
“Rage of the Gladiator is a monumental undertaking.” said Mr. Roman. “It has content comparable to a full $50 console title in a free download for iPhone and iPad devices.”

MADMAN, ABC AND SA FILM CORPORATION STRIKE CO-DEVELOPMENT DEAL WITH EPIC FILMS TO PRODUCE ALL-NEW WASTELANDER PANDA FOR ABC IVIEW.
MADMAN, ABC and SA FILM CORPORATION STRIKE CO-DEVELOPMENT DEAL WITH EPIC FILMS TO PRODUCE ALL-NEW WASTELANDER PANDA FOR ABC iview.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Madman Production Company, the ABC and the South Australian Film Corporation are proud to announce a co-production/co-development deal with Epic Films to create new episodes of the popular cult web series, WASTELANDER PANDA.
The deal will see the creation of all-new WASTELANDER PANDA content in the form of a web series, consisting of six 10-minute episodes that will build on the existing content created by the team at Epic Films in Adelaide – further evolving the unique characters, stories and rich mythology of the Wasteland.
The project also marks an innovative approach to content development for the ABC, as it is the first official collaboration between their TV Multiplatform, Fiction and Arts departments with a view to commissioning content for ABC’s rapidly growing iview Platform.
Madman and Epic Films are aiming to have the project ready for production financing later this year and will be looking to introduce it to potential international partners at this year’s AFM conference.
“Madman Production Company (MPC) is thrilled to be working in partnership with Epic Films. In establishing a production business, a huge part of our remit is to work with the brightest talent on the freshest work, and the team behind WASTELANDER PANDA certainly fits that bill! It is fantastic that the SAFC and the ABC are investing in the development of the series so that we can resource this phase and ensure that the next steps for WASTELANDER PANDA will build on the great work to date and establish it as an ongoing property.” – Nick Batzias, Head of Production, Madman.
“This co-production straight to on-demand is a landmark first for ABC iview. It’s a great fit – building on iview as a creative platform for exciting, innovative Australian storytelling.” – Arul Baskaran, Controller ABC Multiplatform.
“The SAFC has been a big supporter of the team behind WASTELANDER PANDA since the early days of the project, so we are particularly excited to have Madman and ABC come on board as partners to keep it moving ahead,” said SAFC CEO Richard Harris. “We can’t wait to see where the team takes the project in its next development phase.”
“WASTELANDER PANDA has been through a unique journey online over the past two years, and we are incredibly grateful to our fans, crowdfunding supporters, cast and crew, who have enabled us to bring this story to life. We are excited to be partnering with Madman, the ABC and the SAFC to develop the next stage of the project, and look forward to extending our existing narrative and taking the story to a wider audience.” – Victoria Cocks (Writer/Director) & Kirsty Stark (Producer), Epic Films.
WASTELANDER PANDA is a post-apocalyptic adventure series about the last anthropomorphic pandas of the Wasteland – Arcayus and his estranged brother Isaac. Developed from a rich storyworld, the project has been designed to offer compelling narrative threads across multiple platforms. The initial short-form web series in development with Madman, the ABC and the SAFC will tell the story of Isaac’s life after he leaves the family home; centring around his relationship with Rose, a young human girl whom he raises from childhood.
In February 2012, Epic Films released their independently produced WASTELANDER PANDA Prologue online, and within three days, had garnered over 100,000 views. Production then began on three new episodes in late 2012, which were released in late May to a volley of fan excitement, media attention and social media praise from peers such as video game luminaries, Randy Pitchford (BORDERLANDS) and Brian Fargo (FALLOUT, WASTELAND).
