Canon Wins 2012 Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Honors Canon’s Work on Improvements to Large Format CMOS Imagers for Use in High Definition Broadcast Video Cameras
TOKYO, October 22, 2012—Canon Inc. announced today the company will be recognized at the 64th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards for “Improvements to Large Format CMOS Imagers for Use in High Definition Broadcast Video Cameras.” Presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards honor development and innovation in broadcast technology and recognize companies, organizations and individuals for breakthroughs in technology that have a significant effect on television engineering.
Canon debuted its award-winning large format CMOS image sensor in its acclaimed EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera in November of 2011 at a global launch event held at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. By exploring alternatives to the established Bayer color filter array algorithms, Canon was able to achieve an overall image quality capture through its CMOS sensor that has helped bring digital cinema closer to the superb aesthetics associated with 35 mm motion picture film.
“We are honored to receive this recognition from NATAS for our work on large format sensors,” said Masaya Maeda, Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations, Canon Inc. “We see this award as a testament to the warm acceptance that the film and television production community has extended to us as we’ve partnered with them over the last year to help tell their stories. It also serves as further incentive for our continued commitment to the entertainment industry.”
In November 2011, Canon announced its full-fledged entry into the theatrical motion picture, television programming and television commercial production industries with the launch of the Cinema EOS System. Over the past 10 months, the company has introduced a total of three high-definition, high-performance Cinema EOS digital cinema cameras—the EOS C300 Digital Cinema Camera, the EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera and the compact, lightweight EOS C100 Digital Video Camera—all built around Canon’s innovative Super 35-mm CMOS image sensor technology specifically developed for Cinema EOS motion image capture. Separately, the EOS-1D C 4K DSLR Cinema Camera, equipped with an 18.1-megapixel full frame (36 mm x 24 mm) CMOS image sensor, also joined the Cinema EOS product family in April of this year. For professional photographers, and independent and student filmmakers, Canon has also introduced the EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera, building on the strong success of the EOS 5D Mark II in film and television production.
The Technology & Engineering Emmy® Award will be presented on January 10, 2013, during the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
NEW WD® WI-FI RANGE EXTENDER INSTANTLY BOOSTS HOME WIRELESS COVERAGE
NEW WD® WI-FI RANGE EXTENDER INSTANTLY BOOSTS HOME WIRELESS COVERAGE
Leading Edge 3×3 Antenna Array Design Delivers Reliable Wi-Fi Speeds at Farther Distances
Sydney, Australia, October 22, 2012 – WD®, a subsidiary of Western Digital Corporation and a world leader in external storage and solutions for today’s connected life, unveils its My Net™ Wi-Fi™ Range Extender to expand wireless home networks into out-of-reach areas of the home. Following the introduction of its first line of wireless home networking products, the acclaimed My Net family of HD dual-band routers, the selectable dual-band My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender provides faster, stronger and more reliable wireless network coverage to computers, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, media players, smart TVs and other Wi-Fi connected devices that suffer from a weak Wi-Fi signal within the home.
“Today’s home is filled with multiple Wi-Fi connected devices simultaneously streaming movies, music and TV shows on services such as Netflix™, Hulu Plus™, VUDU® and others,” explains Scott Vouri, general manager for WD’s connected life solutions group. “The My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender provides faster speeds at greater distances, enabling HD streaming to the outermost areas of the home.”
My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender’s power comes from its 3×3 multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) antenna array design, versus the 2×2 design used by most competitive products. This design enables customers to significantly extend the Wi-Fi signal from their existing routers or gateways, letting them enjoy HD streaming movies, online gaming and video calls in remote areas of the home with the fastest wireless-N speeds possible. The range extender also features a Gigabit Ethernet port, providing a high-speed Internet connection for distant, wired-only entertainment devices.
Setup of the My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender is a simple two step process, with no installation CD or software needed. Customers can use Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) to connect the range extender to their existing home network with a push of a button. Then they can use the convenient Wi-Fi signal strength indicator lights on the front of the range extender to find the optimal signal-boosting location in their home. Once all the indicator lights are lit, the My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender is in the best location to provide maximum performance. The My Net Wi-Fi Range Extender is compatible with all Wi-Fi certified routers and gateways, as well as all wireless Wi-Fi standards, from 802.11a to 802.11ac.

With that, users may build with confidence knowing that Scout 2 supports up to three 5.25” bay devices, seven hard drives, two SSDs, and even NVIDIA GTX 690 or AMD HD 7970 through an easily removable hard drive cage.
This extends to an emphasis on vast improvements to system airflow that is assisted by support for up to nine 120mm fans with two occupying strategically placed spots on the side panel to cool your graphics cards. Should you want to catch some much needed sleep between gaming sessions, simply use the convenient front panel LED switch to switch the LED lit case fan lights off. Also, quick slide-out dust filters have been equipped in the top and PSU area to easily remove unwanted dust hitchhikers.

Melbourne chosen to host PAX game expo
Monday 22 October 2012 – Victorian Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher today joined Penny Arcade President Robert Khoo to announce that Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) Australia will be held in Melbourne in 2013 and 2014.
Ms Asher said PAX is the world’s premier games festival and the decision to choose Melbourne will be a fantastic opportunity to highlight Victoria’s creative capabilities on a global scale.
“This is the first time the event has been held outside the United States and attracting PAX Australia to Melbourne was a major coup for Victoria,” Ms Asher said. “It is a great opportunity to showcase games culture in Australia to the rest of the world, and the exposure around the region and the world that Melbourne’s games industry will gain from the event, and the number of international and domestic visitors that will be drawn to Melbourne, cannot be underestimated.”
Penny Arcade President Robert Khoo said the demands of the global community dictated the expansion to Australia. “When we reached out to our international fans, the response from the Australian community for a local PAX was overwhelming,” Mr Khoo said.
“Melbourne has a long history of supporting the games scene, through showcasing cultural game exhibits to supporting world renowned game developers. Holding PAX Australia in Melbourne is the perfect fit for our show.”
PAX is the largest consumer games event in North America, first held in Seattle in 2004 and nearly doubling in size each successive year and expanding to a second show in Boston in 2010. A festival celebrating games culture, it connects the world’s leading game publishers with their most avid fans while providing an inclusive community environment.
PAX Australia will combine the exciting program from the international shows with local content and community events. International guests, speakers, musicians and developers will join local game industry representatives to showcase games and community events in Australia.
PAX Australia will be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds from 19-21 July, 2013 and will be run by ReedPOP in conjunction with Penny Arcade.
