The way we watch television continues to evolve, as busy lives and hectic schedules shape traditional television consumption. Consumers are increasingly turning to television programs as an alternative means of recreation, with many using television series on DVD for relaxation and ‘on demand’ entertainment.
Recognising this change in behaviour, Buena Vista Home Entertainment is launching TV 4 Me on DVD, a series of television shows on DVD. TV 4 Me on DVD allows fans to watch their programs on DVD in their own time, and at their own leisure. The first titles to be added to the brand include: Desperate Housewives Season 4, Brothers and Sisters Season 2, Lost Season 4 (on DVD and Blu-ray™), and the premiere season of Dirty Sexy Money – all available from 29 October 2008.
Product Manager for TV Series and Animation at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Rowena Israel, says die-hard TV addicts can finally take control of their favourite shows.
“We all try to cram as much as we can into our hectic schedules each week. Combine this with the fast-moving world of entertainment, and we have consumers seeking out new and different ways to watch TV. Pay and free-to-air television whets our appetite for particular shows, but viewers are no longer willing or able to adhere to network programming schedules,” Ms Israel said.
“Consumers want to take control of their programs and watch television on their terms. This might be with friends in a marathon sequence, or on the weekend at a time that suits them. Increasingly TV on DVD has become another legitimate form of relaxation, with groups of friends planning social events around TV box sets for a big night in,” she said.
TV 4 Me on DVD ambassador and Dancing with the Stars contestant Toni Pearen is typical of the new time-poor and increasingly discerning television watchers.
“My work involves a lot of time away from home, and many nights spent in hotel rooms. I’m obsessed with the series Brothers and Sisters, but I always seem to miss it when it’s on TV,” Toni said.
“Having the entire series on box set is a much better way for me to catch up on my favourite program. When I do manage to spend time at home, there’s nothing better than watching four or five episodes back-to-back with my girlfriends – it’s the perfect way to chill out and unwind,” she said.
Home and Away star and TV 4 Me on DVD ambassador Paul O’Brien found that early morning cast-calls played havoc with his social life. It also meant that he often missed many of his favourite series on TV, needing to get a good night’s rest in preparation for a long day on set.
“I was keen to watch the new series Kyle XY, but found that my own TV filming schedule wasn’t conducive to staying up for evening television,” Paul said.
“TV 4 Me on DVD is just perfect for me. I can watch the programs that I want to watch, when I want to watch them – it really does allow me to take control of my shows,” he said.
Consumers can now watch what they want, when they want, with an exciting collection of TV on DVD titles available under the banner of TV 4 Me on DVD. With over twelve hit TV series launching on DVD October 29 to December 2008, TV 4 Me on DVD is bound to be at the top of everyone’s Christmas wish list.
Including some of the hottest seasons ever, TV 4 Me on DVD will appeal to collectors and fans alike.
