Sleeping Dogs Nightmare in North Point add-on out today on PSN, Xbox LIVE and Steam
Out from today, Nightmare in North Point is the first story-extending add-on for Square Enix London Studios’ and United Front Games’ undercover cop drama, Sleeping Dogs. Taking an unusual twist on the traditional open world gameplay, Wei Shen is thrown into a world of Hong Kong Horror when the ghosts of Triads past rise from Hell, bent on taking over the city and installing ‘Smiley Cat’ as the new Grand Dragon. Of course, Face doesn’t mean a thing when the minions of hell roam the streets, and Wei must seek out the strongest of Chinese magic to grant him the power to defeat the dead and send them back to Hell for all eternity.

Priced at 560MSP, AUD$9.25, NZD$10.50, Nightmare in North Point will be available from today on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Marketplace and Steam. You can find out more from www.sleepingdogs.net, our extensive community website where players can track their in-game progress and see how they shape up against the global Sleeping Dogs community.
In life, Big Scar Wu was one of Hong Kong’s most ruthless triad gangsters. Feared as much by those who stood against him as those who stood by him in the Sun On Yee, it was decided by the Grand Dragon that he must be stopped. Looking to send a message, they had him stabbed 42 times before feeding his bleeding corpse to the grinder at the Smiley Cat cat food plant… his final resting place, in the food bowls of the city’s pet cats. It is said that if the wronged receive anything less than a proper burial, their spirit will almost certainly come back as a Hungry Ghost, damned to starve in the afterlife, feeding only on their hatred. You turn him into cat food and that’s pretty much guaranteed.
Now, Hell has a sense of humour, and when Big Scar Wu arrived in the underworld and word spread of his demise, they renamed him Smiley Cat, much to his chagrin, with the name fuelling his bitterness with every utterance and driving his thirst for revenge. Rising from Hell and vowing to exact his revenge, Smiley Cat has raised an army of Jiang Shi, vowing to destroy the Sun On Yee and to create Hong Kong’s most fearsome criminal empire.
With the city in chaos and its citizens possessed, Wei Shen now faces a challenge far more sinister than any before. To save Hong Kong, he must seek out the most powerful of Chinese magic, endowing him with a power strong enough to take on Smiley Cat’s army of Jiang Shi and face-off against the ghosts of Triads he has defeated in the past, sending the dead back to Hell once and for all.

KONAMI details METAL GEAR RISING Limited Edition and Pre-Order Bonuses
Stunning Limited Edition and two Pre-Order steelbooks accompany Raiden’s return to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has revealed it will release a Limited Edition of its eagerly-anticipated METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE title, which will be available to coincide with its February 21st launch and has outlined its pre-order incentives.
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE arrives for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® next year, but demand for the new title is already huge. The new game has been co-created by Kojima Productions and Platinum Games and marks the return of series favourite, Raiden. Four years have passed since the events of METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS, where gamers were introduced to the cybernetically-enhanced character. Since then, Raiden has reunited with his wife and son, and is content in his role as security agent for Maverick Security Consulting.
When a mission to protect an African Prime Minister ends in the official’s assassination by augmented cyborg assailants, Raiden’s hopes for a quiet life are dashed and he is forced to return to the front line. Armed with his ‘High Frequency’ Blade that can cut through anything, he is charged with stopping the renegade private military company known as Desperado Enforcement – using any means necessary. Showcasing lightning fast action sequences, where players wield Raiden’s blade using an incredibly intuitive control system, METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE mixes the graphical finesse and fine story-telling of the METAL GEAR series, with the stunning gameplay that has cemented Platinum Games as one of the leading producers of action games.
Thus, with Raiden taking centre stage in the new game, KONAMI’s Limited Edition comes with a ca. 30cm figurine of the cyborg agent from the Play Arts KAI series. The Raiden White Armour figurine will only be available via this limited release. The Special Edition will also include a special DLC code to access the White Armour Raiden in the game, with an additional benefit that this incarnation enjoys an increased capacity to carry life-recovery items.
KONAMI has also announced two pre-order incentives, offering a choice of steelbook covers and unique DLC. The first features a Raiden illustration by METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE’s Character Concept artist, Yoji Shinkawa and DLC which unlocks Raiden’s Inferno Armour, increasing the number of throwing weapons he can carry. The second steelbook features a render of Raiden, and has a DLC code for the Raiden Commando Armour, which allows his access to a larger number of projectile weapons.
The Collector’s Edition will be available from JB Hi-Fi, EB Games and leading retailers in New Zealand.
METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE is released for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360® on February 21st 2013.

XBOX 360 TRANSFORMS A COUNTRY TO LAUNCH EPIC BLOCKBUSTER “HALO 4”
Xbox 360 changes the game by taking over Liechtenstein in 2012’s biggest entertainment launch
In a ground-breaking world first, entertainment giant Xbox 360 yesterday became the only brand to ever transform the Principality of Liechtenstein by taking over some of the country’s most iconic landmarks, including a 13th century castle and a working mine, to create a real-life replica of the “Halo” universe within the heart of Europe to mark the launch of “Halo 4”.
For one day only, the mountainous landscapes of the normally tranquil Liechtenstein countryside became a stage for an epic sci-fi saga as Xbox 360 created a mysterious alternate universe inspired by the video game franchise which has sold a staggering 46 million copies worldwide since launch in 2001.
Super fans and worldwide media from 16 different countries were catapulted into this off-world environment to take part in a theatrical experience which saw them travel to a top secret location before being unexpectedly thrust into a war zone which recreated brutal battle grounds through pyrotechnic explosions, thunderous sound effects and cinematic set builds.
““Halo” is a $3 billion blockbuster franchise which has shaped entertainment history and defined a generation of gamers,” said Chris Lewis, Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft EMEA. “From the world’s first ever red-carpet premieres for a video game to sending a man strapped to a jet-pack 50-foot above London’s iconic skyline, “Halo” launches have continually broken the mold and we are back with a colossal bang for “Halo 4”, transforming a country on the biggest scale imaginable”.
“Halo 4” is the start of a new saga in the “Halo” story which is set to cause a sensation when it hits stores on Tuesday 6th November 2012. Acclaimed film director David Fincher, the creative visionary behind Hollywood thrillers such as “Fight Club” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, produced an action-packed launch trailer for the game and American talk show host Conan O’Brien and actor Andy Richter are voicing two of the game’s characters. The “Halo 4” Original Soundtrack was composed by award-winning producer and composer Neil Davidge, long-term co-writer and collaborator for music production outfit Massive Attack.
Transforming Liechtenstein
Xbox 360 worked with the government-owned Liechtenstein Marketing, which promotes Liechtenstein as a tourism destination and a place to do business, to transform the country. The unique makeover included:
- Reimagining a 13th Century Castle – standing on a 70-metre high spur of rock, Gutenberg Castle, one of the most important historical landmarks of Liechtenstein, took on a new guise as a futuristic military fortification where guests become among the first to play “Halo 4”
- Overtaking an entire quarry – a working mine became a jaw-dropping arena for sci-fi adventure, with an appearance from the hero of “Halo 4”, the Master Chief, amidst a series of pyrotechnic explosions
- Creating a Military Camp in the countryside – a local farmer’s field become a post-apocalyptic battle ground
- Finishing touches included the use of bespoke props, special effects and pyrotechnics
- Immersive theatre –15 actors took guests on a two-hour adventure which involved decoding a series of cryptic clues to help save mankind from extinction by fighting off the threat of an attack
Developed by 343 Industries exclusively for Xbox 360, “Halo 4” ushers in the return of mankind’s greatest hero, the Master Chief, in a newly envisioned sci-fi adventure. Set nearly five years after the events of “Halo 3,” “Halo 4” follows the Master Chief as he ventures into a mysterious new world and discovers an overpowering ancient evil that threatens to annihilate mankind.

Afghanistan’s hidden treasures to tour Australia
Federal Ministers Bob Carr and Simon Crean today announced an exhibition of priceless ancient artefacts from the National Museum, Kabul, that will tour Australia beginning at Melbourne Museum on 22 March 2013.
On view for the first time in Australia, Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul features more than 230 precious objects from archaeological sites along the ancient Silk Road.
For decades these treasures were thought to have been lost or destroyed during years of conflict in Afghanistan, but in 2003 were unexpectedly recovered from vaults where they had been hidden for safekeeping by museum staff.
“It is an enormous privilege to have the opportunity to see these extraordinary treasures, some of the most precious in the world, here in Australia,” said Dr Patrick Greene, CEO, Museum Victoria.
Organised by the National Geographic Society, Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul, features gold jewellery, bronze and stone sculptures, ivories, painted Roman glassware and other ancient works of art, all excavated in the twentieth century.
“These beautiful treasures – and the remarkable story of the brave individuals who risked their lives to keep them safe – are testament to the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan, once at the heart of the Silk Road and an historic link between China, India, Persia, the Middle East and the West.”
“This exhibition is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Australians to see the significance of Afghanistan as a place of wonderful diversity and fascinating history – a very different perspective compared to the one that results from years of conflict.”
The National Museum, Kabul housed many precious artefacts from Afghanistan’s cultural history. After more than ten years of war in 1989, thousands of artefacts from the collection were hidden in a bank vault in Kabul by a small group of courageous staff from the National Museum to protect them from bombing and looting. Known as the ‘key-holders’, these men and their brave acts ensured that these priceless treasures remained safe for 14 years before they were once again revealed to the world, as some of the only remaining artefacts from ancient Afghanistan.
Ranging in date from 2200 BC to the second century AD, the objects are drawn from four major archaeological sites in Afghanistan – the ancient city of Fullol, where gold bowls from the Bronze Age were unearthed; the former Greek city Aï Khanum, founded in the wake of conquests by Alexander the Great; treasures from what is thought to be a merchant’s storeroom in Begram; and lavish gold jewellery and ornaments found in the graves of six nomads in Tillya Tepe.
“Presenting this exhibition in Australia is very significant, because of the opportunity it represents to build greater understanding between our two countries and because of the hope it offers for Afghanistan’s future,” said Dr Patrick Greene, CEO, Museum Victoria.
“The National Museum in Kabul proudly states that a nation stays alive when its culture stays alive, and nothing demonstrates this more than these treasures, connecting us to Afghanistan’s cultural history when so many other artefacts from this time have been destroyed or lost.”
The Australian tour of this exhibition is a result of a partnership between the Australian Government, Melbourne Museum, Queensland Museum, Art Gallery of New South Wales and Western Australian Museum.

One day, the world was enveloped by a mysterious blinding light. The destruction it caused was terrible, even as the light itself was sublime in its beauty, and it made those who witnessed the awesome display think of the unrestrained rage and fury of the divine.
The central continent, from where the light is believed to have originated from, went silent, while at the same time demons began to spread throughout the world like a plague. Amongst the survivors of the catastrophe, that fateful day became known as the “Day of Light.”
Sometime after the events of the Day of Light, a young man by the name of Weiss, who had lost all memory of himself, encounters an enigmatic woman named Eva, who introduces herself as an Agent of the Divine. It is from her that Weiss learns that he has committed the grievous sin of deicide, and that in order for him to atone for his crime he is to become the “Vessel” in which the power of the divinity he had slaughtered will be stored. For it will be that power that will be used to resurrect the one whose life he stole.
For those who betray the divine will pay for their sins in the space which separates salvation and damnation, as will their progeny…
