The addition of Linux to the roster of platforms means that users running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or higher on a device equipped with keyboard and mouse (and running Steam) will be able to play Football Manager for the first time.

The integration of Steam’s ‘cloud save’ functionality means that managers will now be able to continue a single career across a variety of computers, as long as they are logged into their Steam account. What’s more, the cross-compatibility between the Windows PC, Mac and Linux versions means that a single career can be continued across any and all of these platforms.
– Steam Workshop
The integration of Steam Workshop into FM 2014 will allow fans to easily create content and share it with their fellow managers. Fans will be able to create unique game skins and graphics, customise and share bespoke databases (including additional leagues and nations) and create customised competitions. In addition, Classic Mode will feature a Challenge Editor which will allow fans to create and share unique gameplay scenarios.
– Cross-save with PS Vita
Football Manager Classic players will not only be able to continue a single career across the three computer platforms, they will also be able to continue that same career while mobile on their PS Vita (the PS Vita version of FM 2014 is also required). The PS Vita game will also be the first handheld version of Football Manager to feature the 3D match engine.
As with last year’s release, fans who pre-order their copy of FM 2014 from a participating retailer (high street or digital download) will enjoy early access to a fully-playable Beta version of the game, available roughly two weeks prior to the official release date. “I get so many requests for the release date on Twitter, but we’ll only ever announce a date when we’re sure we’re going to hit it,” says Sports Interactive’s Studio Director, Miles Jacobson. “We’re now at that point, so I’m delighted to announce the release date of October 31st and also announce loads more retailers who will be offering people who pre-order the chance to play the Beta version of the game two weeks ahead of Football Manager 2014’s official release date.”

As Australia embraces a new government, Chhai Thach, App Developer and founder of ground-breaking new event for start-ups, SouthStart, believes it’s never been a better time to be an entrepreneur.

- 1. Make the decision. Everyone has creative ideas for the next big thing, but the difference between making it big and staying still is the decision to make a go of it and committing 100%. Take the first step, then make sure you work hard to make your dream become a reality.
- 2. Go big or go home. Give it your all, or don’t bother. As a bonus, the bigger you go, the more inspired you’ll be and the easier it will be to attract other people to join your cause. Set your goals high. Nothing in this world was made by those happy with the status-quo, it was made by visionaries, like Sergey Brin, who could not see the world without their idea.
3. Audit. Keep an eye on the details and use data and information coming in around your business idea as a true measure of whether it can really be a success. Experiment early and often, and fail quickly. At Google we carry out lots of experiments, for example we run 5000 experiments for web search alone each year, of which maybe 1% will be adopted.
4. Admit. Only by admitting what is not working, can you move forward. Entrepreneurs accept that the mother of success is taking a risk. Therefore you need to build a culture that embraces risk-taking and accepts failure. For the ideas that don’t succeed, admit it and move on.
5. Adapt. If you’re in a start-up, you can’t afford the luxury of staying with a failing experiment or an unreceptive market any longer than necessary. So once you’ve admitted that fact, it’s time to adapt. Pivoting means being able to adapt quickly and implement new strategies enabling start-ups to survive. It requires building a culture that not just tolerates change, but thrives in the face of it.

AVG Launches Free Facebook Privacy App: AVG CrowdControl
AVG Technologies has announced its first privacy app built on the Facebook® API: AVG CrowdControl. The app, which is available at facebook.com/avg, allows users to easily manage who sees their default posts for improved privacy without deleting personal contacts.
AVG CrowdControl is designed to make Facebook experiences safer by customising who can view a status, videos and photos posted on a personal timeline. AVG’s goal is that this will make privacy and online security a more front-of-mind issue for users. AVG CrowdControl also is integrated directly into the free AVG PrivacyFix™, launched last week.
Michael McKinnon, Security Advisor at AVG Technologies AU, said: “Most people have hundreds of friends on Facebook, but may not feel comfortable sharing their daily activity with such a large group, including old business colleagues, fellow students, or people who you can barely remember. This is why we designed AVG CrowdControl. We believe that people will share more and have a more fulfilling experience on social networks when they know they are sharing only with the group that’s right for them.”
AVG CrowdControl scans the user’s Facebook profile and organises their friends based on with whom they interact most. Clicking on any friend’s image marks them to be excluded from the custom list.
Once this personalised list has been created, the app takes users to a guided screen showing them how to change the default setting and opens a new tab for them to change it – a simple two-click process. As the app is integrated into users’ Facebook accounts, the list can be easily adjusted and kept up to date as new friends are added. When the user wants to share something more broadly, they can always select all Friends or Public as the audience for a specific post.
