AN AUSTRALIAN DRAMA/SCI-FI FILM ON A SCIENTIST’S OBSESSION AND ADDICTION TO TECHNOLOGY SELECTED FOR SCREENINGS AT PRESTIGIOUS FILM FESTIVALS

A Film Supported by Australian of the Year, Patrick McGorry and

Leading Internet Addiction Psychologist, Phillip Tam

MEDIA RELEASE – Sydney, Australia, Wednesday December 12, 2012……

“Anima”, a touching and visionary Australian film, follows the journey of a rogue scientist as he struggles to preserve his terminal wife inside a virtual world of his own making.  With the timely theme of technology addiction at its core, the ambitious film was able to beat a record breaking group of over 7,500 registered films from around the world to screen at the prestigious 35th International Short Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand* in France from February 1-9 2013.  This will be the film’s international premiere.

The 13 minute drama/sci-fi was crowd-funded by emerging local filmmaker, Scott Mannion and has also been selected for competition at the OSCAR and BAFTA accredited 22nd International Short Film Festival, Flickerfest in Bondi, New South Wales from January 11-20, 2013.

Written and directed by Scott Mannion, “Anima” was crafted by experienced skilled technicians, including veteran cinematographer, Mike Molloy ASC BSC, known for his work with Stanley Kubrick, Stephen Frears, Michael Caine and Christian Bale.  Starring Henry Nixon (The Pacific, Noise), Katherine Hicks (Winners & Losers, Black & White & Sex), Laura Brent (Not Suitable For Children, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader) and Karl Beattie (the Oscar nominated Miracle Fish and X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the concept of technology addiction was thoroughly investigated and the film garnered support from Australian of the Year, Patrick McGorry and leading internet addiction psychologist, Phillip Tam.

Filming was completed around the world, from epic cosmological time-lapse of the stars in the mountains of Austria, to precise striking microscopic fluid dynamics shot in the USA, and principle photography shot in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales.

“Anima” follows the lives of Roman (the scientist), and Anastasia, who since a deadly car accident, have lived in seclusion, their only connection and addiction, technology.  Psychologically and physically, it’s killing him and Anastasia is beginning to reject the fantasy.  But with the outside world closing in and his wife’s body deteriorating, Roman desperately keeps her alive the only way he knows how…inside the system.

Scott Mannion reached out to the online community for finance, using the internationally recognised crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, to ensure adequate budget was available to achieve a world-class standard film, the funding trailer for “Anima” immediately connected with the digital community resulting in the much-needed $10,000 dollars raised for production.

“The technology addiction theme resonated with people because we are starting to really see an unhealthy obsession emerge in today’s society.  I was thrilled by the response and support we received – the evolution of crowd-funding proves if you reach out to the online world community, there are people willing to help you and be a part of making something truly unique.  If you take a risk and put yourself out there, it’s more egalitarian than one would think in the art world.  Just by reaching out we had specialist cinematographers from Austria and the USA shooting some truly epic work.  It certainly has been a wonderful baptism of fire directing a film which enlisted such a wide scope of individuals – even some from different countries!  To work with such a talented cast and crew and to have the faith of the crowd-funding supporters is extremely humbling and a responsibility I took very seriously” said Director, Scott Mannion.

SimCity Goes Multicity in New Strategy Video

In October, Maxis debuted the first all-gameplay strategy video where Lead Designer Stone Librande gave you the first look at the inner workings of SimCity.  You not only learned that roads are the foundation of a successful city, but you also learned the basic infrastructures needed to start growing a city. When Stone left off, he was just beginning to build out a tourism city using casinos. Today he’s back and he’s showing you some advanced strategies for growing his casino city using Multi-city play – one of the crowning achievements in SimCity.
With Multi-city play, you no longer need to provide all the required city infrastructures in one city. Build a police station and share your growing police force with the greater region. Have your friend build a fire station in a neighboring city and soon you’ll see their fire trucks putting out flames in your city. Just like the world around you, neighboring cities support each other through shared resources. These are just a few examples of the Multi-city play that you’ll see today in Stone’s gameplay strategy video.

Built from the ground up to be a fully connected experience, Multi-city play in SimCity gives you the option to choose how you play. When you login and pick a region, you can decide to claim all the cities for yourself, invite your friends into your region to play alongside you, invite anyone in and make new friends, or join someone else’s region.

What kind of region will you build? You’ll find out when SimCity launches on PC in March 2013.

The Bourne Legacy – Available on Blu-ray™, DVD and Triple Play from December 13, 2012

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy (The Devil’s Advocate, The Cutting Edge), takes the helm as Director in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise. The Bourne Legacy expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner – The Avengers 1&2, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Thor) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films.

Jeremy Renner plays new hero Aaron Cross and is joined by an all-star cast and fellow series newcomers Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz, Academy Award Nominee Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac.

On the verge of having their conspiracy exposed, members of the US government’s intelligence community will stop at nothing to erase all evidence of their top-secret programs – including the agents involved. Super-spy Aaron Cross must use his genetically engineered skills to survive the ultimate game of cat-and-mouse and finish what fellow undercover super-spy, Jason Bourne, started.

The story follows Cross’ escape journey to Chicago, where he meets and rescues beautiful genetic scientist, Dr. Marta Shearing (Weisz), who is also scheduled for assassination. They flee to Manila, where they are hunted by Eric Byer (Norton), who is out to eliminate Aaron and all traces of Operation Outcome, the government program that produced him.

The Bourne Legacy is packed full of the high quality chase and action scenes the franchise has become popular for, with Renner doing many of his own stunts. New research shows your online profile impacts your employment chances

Recruiters use online postings of nude photos, obnoxious behaviour and derogatory comments about employers as reasons not to interview candidates.
MELBOURNE  – 12 December 2012 – New AVG research from the UK and the US reveals the extent to which recruiters are using social media to vet applicants and how young job seekers who display irresponsible behaviours are reducing their chances of gaining an interview.

AVG’s latest research shows that the Internet, and social networks in particular, has changed the way HR professionals approach the recruitment process. Online content posted about or by a candidate has become the modern day equivalent of a first interview.

The survey of 230 HR Professionals in the UK and US, as part of AVG Technologies’ most recent Digital Diaries study, found that most search unprotected social media profiles to assess candidate suitability. Digital Baggage, the sixth instalment of AVG Technologies’ Digital Diaries study, features responses from 4,400 18-25 year olds in 11 countries (including Australia) to AVG’s questions as to how they manage their social network profiles.

The recruiters, who are using the gamut of social media platforms to vet candidates, verified that too many young job seekers are still not acting responsibly online. The majority of 18-25 year olds themselves revealed in the survey that they had never reviewed their online profile, even though it could potentially have an impact on their career prospects.

Associate Professor Peter Holland* from Monash University in Melbourne, said: “This timely research should be a wakeup call to all prospective employees, particularly younger candidates who have grown up with social networking  – working in a digital age brings a new dimension to the need to be careful what you say and do in a public space.”

More than 90 percent of US human resources managers consider the posting of nude photos online as a reason not to interview candidates. Other reasons include: evidence of obnoxious behaviour (91 percent); a negative or derogatory comment about a previous employer (nearly 95 percent) and extremist views about topics such as race (93 percent).

In contrast, over two-thirds of US and UK HR Professionals had actually been positively influenced by the online presence of a job applicant, with nearly three-quarters relying on LinkedIn to conduct their online searches, even though only one in three UK recruiters fully trusts the information candidates post about themselves.

Michael McKinnon, Security Advisor at AVG Technologies AU, said: “In a competitive job market, there are major advantages for savvy candidates to differentiate themselves with a clean online brand.  By proactively managing their online profile and taking control, they will help create an image of a responsible potential employee.”

AVG’s 3 Top Tips for creating a clean online brand:

1. Privacy

Create a clear distinction between your private and work life. Take the time to set every level of privacy in each social networking site you sign up to.

Nearly a third (31 percent) of working Australian 18-25 year olds are ‘Facebook friends’ with their boss. AVG’s research also finds that 62 percent of Australian young adults who are ‘friends’ with their colleagues do not restrict the content co-workers are able to access.

Regular reviews of social networking friend lists is a must. If you have drifted away from someone, then ‘unfriend’ them. It’s a silent operation, they aren’t notified, and you are able to maintain control over who your ‘friends’ are and what is known about you.

2. Clean out career damaging content

From the study, 54 percent of respondents admitted they had never audited their online profiles or cleaned-up potentially career damaging content. As your online profile extends across LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram and Flickr – and more as time goes on – careless attitudes expressed and photos posted when you were 18 could have repercussions when viewed by a recruitment agency when you are 25.

3. Passwords and security

Show a responsible attitude to security – you don’t want to be the source of a malware attack on work colleagues or recruiters.

Protect your devices and information by running the latest applications and operating systems; plus always on, automatically updating security software on every networked device. Change every default setting to a strong individual password, and switch on every security option embedded in your smart devices.

Space Hulk Returns in 2013 – Developer Full Control Licenses Classic Games Workshop Warhammer 40,000 IP

The Desperate Battle of Space Marines and Genestealers Commences on Digital Platforms in 2013

Copenhagen, Denmark – December 11th, 2012 – Independent studio Full Control today announced that in association with Games Workshop it will be bringing the legendary Space Hulk IP to popular digital gaming platforms in 2013. Based on the best-selling board game and set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Space Hulk is a 3D digital turn based strategy game that recreates the classic claustrophobic board game experience for single player and multiplayer cross-platform play between PC, Mac and on iOS.

Space Hulk is set in the isolated corridors and tomb-like chambers of an ancient vessel lost in the graveyard of space. Players lead a small army of fearless Space Marine Terminators to battle in a ferocious fight for survival against hordes of predatory alien Genestealers. Based on the “Sin of Damnation” campaign from the 3rd edition board game, Space Hulk includes a robust 12 mission single-player and co-operative campaign. Recreating the tense battles of the board game, multiplayer mode will allow players to go head-to-head as one player controls the Space Marines and their opponent the Genestealers, in the ultimate fight for domination. Cross platform functionality in multiplayer mode allows players to compete against friends whether they play on PC, Mac or mobile. The Space Hulk level editor will enable players to design their own levels, share them with others online and in a central hub explore creations of the community.

“Since playing the board game decades ago I have always wanted to recreate this slice of Warhammer 40,000 as a computer game. Now we can finally bring the board game to life in glorious 3D full of scary Genestealers and mighty Terminators fighting for human kind,” said Thomas Hentschel Lund, CEO of Full Control. “As huge fans of the Space Hulk board game and the Warhammer 40,000 universe in general, we are delighted that Games Workshop has given us the opportunity to work with this iconic license and bring our version of Space Hulk into the hands of all fans out there”.

‘Space Hulk is one of our timeless games that has both classic gameplay and extraordinary imagery in the form of the Warhammer 40,000 universe,’ said Jon Gillard, the Head of Licensing for Games Workshop.  ‘Over its 23 year history, three physical editions and three video games it has consistently reset the bar for quality and edge-of-the-seat gaming and we have no doubt that will continue to be the case with this version from Full Control.  Their passion for the game and their development skill, combined with the power of the Warhammer 40,000 setting is going to create something very special indeed. There are a lot of people here at Games Workshop who are desperate to get this on their iPads!’

Space Hulk is powered by Full Control’s battle proven formula for 3D tactical turn based games utilised in the successful “Tactical Soldier – Undead Rising” and the recently released “Frontline Tactics” video games.

ntel Delivers the World’s First 6-Watt Server-Class Processor

Several Equipment Makers Building Microservers, Storage and Networking Systems Based on 64-bit Intel® Atom™ Processor S1200 Product Family

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Intel®      Atom™ processor S1200 server system on-chip hits lower-power levels, and      includes key features such as error code correction, 64-bit support, and      virtualisation technologies required for use inside data centres.
  • More      than 20 low-power designs including microservers, storage and networking      systems use the Intel Atom processor S1200 family.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 11, 2012 – Intel Corporation introduced the Intel® Atom™ S1200 product family today, delivering the world’s first low-power, 64-bit server-class system-on-chip (SoC) for high-density microservers, as well as a new class of energy-efficient storage and networking systems. The energy-sipping, industrial-strength microprocessor features essential capabilities to achieve server-class reliability, manageability and cost effectiveness.

“The data centre continues to evolve into unique segments and Intel continues to be a leader in these transitions,” said Diane Bryant, vice president and general manager of the Datacenter and Connected Systems Group at Intel. “We recognised several years ago the need for a new breed of high-density, energy-efficient servers and other data centre equipment. Today, we are delivering the industry’s only 6-watt1 SoC that has key data centre features, continuing our commitment to help lead these segments.”

Intel’s Next Generation of Microservers: The Real Thing
As public clouds continue to grow, the opportunity to transform companies providing dedicated hosting, content delivery or front-end Web servers are also growing. High density servers based on low-power processors are able to deliver the desired performance while at the same time significantly reduce energy consumption – one of the biggest cost drivers in the data centre. However, before deploying new equipment in data centres, companies look for several critical features.

The Intel Atom processor S1200 product family is the first low-power SoC delivering required data centre features that ensure server-class levels of reliability and manageability while also enabling significant savings in overall costs. The SoC includes two physical cores and a total of four threads enabled with Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology2 (Intel® HT). The SoC also includes 64-bit support, a memory controller supporting up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, Intel® Virtualization Technologies (Intel® VT), eight lanes of PCI Express 2.0, Error-Correcting Code (ECC) support for higher reliability, and other I/O interfaces integrated from Intel chipsets. The new product family will consist of three processors with frequency ranging from 1.6GHz to 2.0GHz.

The Intel Atom S1200 product family is also compatible with the x86 software that is commonly used in data centres today. This enables easy integration of the new low-powered equipment and avoids additional investments in porting and maintaining new software stacks.

New Milestones in Power Efficiency
Intel continues to drive power consumption down in its products, enabling systems to be as energy efficient as possible. Each year since the 2006 introduction of low-power Intel® Xeon® processors, Intel has delivered a new generation of low-power processors that have decreased the thermal design power (TDP) from 40 watts in 2006 to 17 watts this year due to Intel’s advanced 22-nanometer (nm) process technology. The Intel Atom processor S1200 product family is the first low-power SoC with server-class features offering as low as 6 watts1 of TDP.

Broad Industry Support
Today, more than 20 low-power designs including microservers, storage and networking systems use the Intel Atom processor S1200 processor family from companies including Accusys*, CETC*, Dell*, HP*, Huawei*, Inspur*, Microsan*, Qsan*, Quanta*, Supermicro* and Wiwynn*.

“Organisations supporting hyperscale workloads need powerful servers to maximise efficiency and realise radical space, cost and energy savings,” said Paul Santeler, vice president and general manager, Hyperscale Business Unit, Industry-standard Servers and Software at HP. “HP servers power many of those organisations, and the Intel Atom processor S1200 will be instrumental as we develop the next wave of application-defined computing to dramatically reduce cost and energy use for our customers.”

An Even Brighter Future
Intel is working on the next generation of Intel Atom processors for extreme energy efficiency codenamed “Avoton.” Available in 2013, Avoton will further extend Intel’s SoC capabilities and use the company’s leading 3-D Tri-gate 22 nm transistors, delivering world-class power consumption and performance levels.

For customers interested in low-voltage Intel® Xeon® processor models for low-power servers, storage and networking, Intel will introduce the new Intel Xeon processor E3 v3 product family based on the “Haswell” microarchitecture next year. These new processors will take advantage of new energy-saving features in Haswell and provide balanced performance-per-watt, giving customers even more options.

Pricing and Availability
The Intel Atom processor S1200 is shipping today to customers with recommended customer price starting at US$54 in quantities of 1,000 units.

More information on the announcement including Diane Bryant’s presentation, additional documents and pictures are available at http://newsroom.intel.com/docs/DOC-3172.
