HEIDI KLUM NAMED MOST DANGEROUS CELEBRITY IN CYBERSPACE BY MCAFEE

Cameron Diaz and Piers Morgan are No. 2 and No. 3; Beware of Victoria’s Secret Beauties

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 15, 2011 – Heidi Klum has replaced Cameron Diaz as the most dangerous celebrity to search for on the Web, according to Internet security company McAfee (NASDAQ:INTC).  For the fifth year in a row, McAfee researched popular culture’s most famous people to reveal the riskiest celebrity athletes, musicians, politicians, comedians and Hollywood stars on the Web.  The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities™ study found movie stars and models top the “most dangerous” list this year, while singers and sports stars are among the safest.

Cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software. Anyone looking for the latest videos or pictures could end up with a malware-ridden computer instead of just trendy content.

“While slightly safer than last year, searching for top celebrities continues to generate risky results,” said Paula Greve, director of Web security research at McAfee.  “Consumers should be particularly aware of malicious content hiding in ‘tiny’ places like shortened URLs that can spread virally in social networking sites, or through e-mails and text messages from friends.”

Heidi Klum Searches Yield Nearly a One-in-Ten Chance of Landing on a Malicious Site

Fans searching for “Heidi Klum and downloads,” “Heidi Klum and ‘free’ downloads,” “Heidi Klum and screensavers,” “Heidi Klum and hot pictures” and “Heidi Klum and videos” are at risk of running into online threats designed to steal personal information. Clicking on these risky sites and downloading files like photos, videos or screensavers exposes surfers or consumers to the risk of downloading viruses and malware.

McAfee research found that searching for the latest Heidi Klum pictures and downloads yields more than a nine per cent chance of landing on a website that has tested positive for online threats, such as spyware, adware, spam, phishing, viruses and other malware.

The study uses McAfee® SiteAdvisor® site ratings, which indicate which sites are risky to search for celebrity names on the Web and calculate an overall risk percentage.  The top 10 celebrities from this year’s study with the highest percentages of risk are:

Position Celebrity
1 Heidi Klum – Klum, the former Victoria’s Secret model and current producer of “Project Runway” moved up from No. 10 on last year’s list to No. 1 today.  Searching for Klum results in nearly a one in ten chance of landing on a risky site.
2 Cameron Diaz – 2010’s Most Dangerous Celebrity fell to second place, with searches resulting in slightly fewer risky sites this year. She has most recently been in the spotlight with her 2011 movies “Bad Teacher” and “The Green Hornet.”
3 Piers Morgan – A new addition to the top ten list, Morgan is also the most dangerous male celebrity.  He is best known as the host of “Piers Morgan Tonight,” taking over for Larry King, a winner of the “Celebrity Apprentice,” and one of the judges on “America’s Got Talent.”
4 Jessica Biel – 2009’s Most Dangerous Celebrity fell one more spot this year with searches resulting in fewer risky sites. Biel continues to be in the spotlight with her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Timberlake, and her appearance in “The A-Team” in June 2010.
5 Katherine Heigl – The former “Grey’s Anatomy” star moved into the top ten for the first time this year.  Heigl has appeared in recent movies such as “Killers” and “Life as We Know It.”
6 Mila Kunis – The former star of “That 70s Show” makes her first showing in the top ten, bolstered by starring in movies such as “Black Swan” and “Friends with Benefits.”
7 Anna Paquin – This “True Blood” star is as dangerous on the Web as she is on the screen. She moved up from No. 10 last year to No. 7 this year.
8 Adriana Lima – Searching for downloads of this Brazilian beauty can direct users to red-ranked sites. Lima is best known for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel since 2000. Searching for Lima became slightly safer, moving her from No. 6 last year, to No. 8 this year.
9 Scarlett Johansson – The former child star has gotten more dangerous as she’s grown up.  Named in 2010, as “Babe of The Year” by GQ Magazine, Johansson most recently appeared in “Iron Man 2.”
10 Emma Stone, Brad Pitt and Rachel McAdams – Pitt has been a mainstay of this list, appearing in the top ten for the past four years.  Stone and McAdams are new to the top ten.  Stone, the star of last year’s “Easy A” has appeared in “The Help” and “Crazy Stupid Love” this year.  McAdams has most recently appeared in “Morning Glory” and “Midnight in Paris.”

Gisele Bündchen, Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts have all dropped out of this year’s top ten list.

Beware of Victoria’s Secret Beauties

Two of Victoria’s Secret top models are among the top ten this year. Searching for downloads of sexy Heidi Klum (No. 1), Adriana Lima (No. 8) can result in landing on a risky site.

Sports Stars and Singers are Safer

Tennis stars Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, who came in at No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, last year have dropped to No. 44 and No. 56 on this year’s list. Singer Justin Bieber was No. 49 this year, followed by Rihanna and Carrie Underwood who were tied at No. 51, and Lady Gaga was No. 58.

Headlines Don’t Equate to Risk

This year actor Charlie Sheen made headlines with his highly public departure from “Two and a Half Men” and his one-man roadshow, among other things. Despite the publicity, however, Sheen is not be classified as a “dangerous” celebrity. Sheen ranked No. 59 on this year’s list, with less than three per cent of searches yielding risky results.  Lindsay Lohan, another tabloid favorite, ranked No. 18 on this year’s list, tied with Gwen Stefani and Reese Witherspoon.

“Hot movies and TV shows, awards and industry accolades seem to be more of a factor than headline-grabbing activity,” said Greve. “Still, searching for any celebrity can bring up risky sites and the public should use caution by not clicking on any page that looks suspicious.”

Latest Canon PowerShot Cameras Introduce Revolutionary

Sydney, 16 September, 2011: Canon Australia today announced the new PowerShot S100 and PowerShot SX40 HS, featuring the revolutionary DiG!C 5 Image Processor. As a further enhancement to Canon’s impressive TruCapture technology, DiG!C 5 makes it even easier to capture beautiful images in true colour and clarity, just as they appear to the eye.

“Since the birth of the first generation DiG!C image processor, Canon has continuously evolved its technology to capitalise on our leading optics and deliver the very best image quality,” says James Lai, Assistant Brand Manager – Digital Cameras, Canon Australia. “DiG!C 5 is revolutionary, contributing a range of enhancements including better noise reduction, automation capabilities, better white balance and faster continuous shooting.”

“With the technological improvements in white balance and noise reduction capabilities, users can capture beautiful, natural-looking colours, even in difficult lighting situations.”

In addition to faster shooting speeds (the PowerShot S100 captures 9.6 fps and the PowerShot SX40 HS captures 10.3 fps), the DiG!C 5 Image Processor delivers clear, sharp images even when the main subject and background are lit with different light sources. This is thanks to Advanced White Balance, which ensures that, when the flash is fired, the subject and background are clearly delineated to give images greater sharpness.

With DiG!C 5’s improved noise reduction function, only noise is suppressed while maintaining the image resolution even when shooting at a high ISO speed.  It also corrects the greenish tint caused by mercury-vapor lamps or fluorescent lights, reproducing the colours as they appear true-to-life.

Superior image quality – even in low light

The PowerShot S100 and PowerShot SX40 HS join Canon’s impressive range of TruCapture technology-equipped digital compact cameras. TruCapture comprises three core technologies: an Optical Image Stabiliser Lens (OIS), which cuts hand-held shake for blur-free photos; DiG!C Image Processor for colour rich images; and a High Sensitivity sensor for true-to-life images – even in low-light situations.

“We know that image quality is the No.1 consideration for camera buyers because they want to capture their memories in the best quality possible,” continued Lai. “With Canon’s High Sensitivity sensor and DiG!C 5 Image Processor, TruCapture technology ensures that life’s precious moments are captured in true colour and true clarity, at the press of a button – whether in daylight or at night.”

The Optical Image Stabilisation Lens has been further enhanced with Intelligent Image Stabilisation (IS) which automatically controls blurring by reducing the effects of hand-held camera shake so you can shoot amazing quality photos and video in the most difficult conditions. At the press of a shutter button, the camera automatically selects the optimum IS for each scene, recognising a selection of six scenes: normal photos, macro shooting, shooting while walking, using a tripod, panning and shooting with a telephoto zoom.

Stunning Full HD Movies
Featuring Full HD movie recording capabilities at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, users can enjoy sharing movies with the whole family in the highest quality on their TV.

The Movie Digest feature records four seconds of video prior to a photo being taken and then automatically edits the day’s unexpected events into one short movie. Switching between photo and video recording is quick and easy with the ‘Movie Button’.

PowerShot S100
The PowerShot S100, an upgrade from the popular PowerShot S95, features a Genuine Canon EOS inspired 1/1.7 type CMOS Sensor, achieving superior image capture.

It also features a newly designed F2.0, 24mm Wide Angle Lens with 5x Optical Zoom, making it perfect for capturing a broad range of shots – especially family portraits, and landscape shots such as mountain ranges or sunsets. The F2.0 allows you to shoot beautiful images in low-light conditions without using the flash, while the 24mm Wide Angle Lens provides a wider field of view.

Perfect for those wanting to explore their creative potential, the PowerShot S100 features manual controls and a customised control ring. The control ring allows for the quick adjustment of shooting settings.

The PowerShot S100 also has GPS functionality to track and display your photography route on Google Maps – the perfect addition to online travel albums and blogs.

PowerShot SX40 HS
The PowerShot SX40 HS is the perfect travel companion and your ideal outdoor partner, comprising an impressive 35x Optical Zoom and Intelligent IS, it’s never been easier to capture clear shots at super zoom.

“The Intelligent IS, which automatically selects the ideal IS setting to counter camera shake, makes a significant and noticeable difference to hand-held shooting results when using the high-zoom range,” says Lai.

Advancing its predecessor, the PowerShot SX30 IS, the new model features a 12.1 Megapixel High Sensitivity Sensor – for superior, true-to-life images in low light.

The PowerShot SX40 HS with its broad zoom range at 24-840mm focal length, is ideal for capturing wide shots such as landscapes and group portraits or getting close to the action from a distance, such as sporting events or action shots.

Along with FULL HD Movie Recording, the PowerShot SX40 HS boasts a 2.7 type Vari Angle LCD screen. As the angle of the LCD monitor can be freely adjusted, you can compose photos as you like, allowing you to get more creative.

METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection Revealed

KONAMI outlines exhaustive content of its METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection

SYDNEY, 16 September, 2011: Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has listed the incredible depth of content that will form its METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®.

METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection not only boasts HD remastered versions of METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, and METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER, it will also include conversions of the original METAL GEAR titles as released on the MSX systems, and also includes the many VR Missions that were released alongside METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SUBSTANCE, offering an exhaustive overview of the most enduring video game series of all time.

The METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection will be released on Blu-Ray disc for PlayStation 3 and across two DVDs for Xbox 360. Each game will be presented with reworked HD visuals, improved sound, along with Trophy and Achievement support.

Chronologically, METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER is the first title, with series hero Snake sneaking through a Soviet jungle where intelligence reports a vital scientist is being held captive. Set in the 60s of the Cold War, SNAKE EATER sees Snake using his stealth abilities in a whole new locale – under the cover of the jungle foliage where various camo fatigues can be used for additional cover and to hide from the patrolling guards. As the mission to recover the scientist unfolds, faces from Snake’s past make welcome and unwelcome returns.

The next in the series’ timeline is METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER, which takes place a decade after the events of SNAKE EATER and details the operations of Big Boss in Costa Rica. Set in 1974, Costa Rica has been overrun by a band of highly-trained mercenaries. Working with a squad of neutral troops, Snake discovers a CIA plot, and becomes embroiled in a mission to thwart a nuclear threat. The HD version of PEACE WALKER also includes totally renovated graphics, with every font, gauge and icon resized and enhanced to make use of the larger play screen, while a six-player multi-player mode has also been implemented.

The series then moves on to METAL GEAR SOLID 2: SONS OF LIBERTY – first released in Europe on PlayStation®2 in 2002 – which also marks Raiden’s first appearance in the series.

Solid Snake and Otacon receive intel that a new kind of METAL GEAR vehicle is being transported across the Hudson River. Snake infiltrates the tanker, which is seized by a group of Russian mercenaries lead by long-term adversary, Revolver Ocelot. Two years pass, and a new terrorist faction calling themselves The Sons of Liberty have taken over the Big Shell base and newly-trained Fox Hound operative, Raiden, is sent to investigate.

The METAL GEAR SOLID HD Collection represents a stunning overview of one of the most iconic game series in history, and showcases the sheer talent of its legendary creator. It will allow many PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users to experience these ground-breaking titles for the first time, but with the new visual and aural improvements modern gamers expect.

How safe is your business? – Part 2 (Symantec Vision 2011)

As Symantec continue to be the leaders in security, their Symantec Vision 2011 conference was held at the Sydney Convention Exhibition Centre on the 13th of September. This conference allowed Symantec, its sponsors and the business community to discuss the changing threat landscape with solutions and strategies for both small and large businesses.

In an almost Steve Jobs type atmosphere, the conference was introduced by three keynote speakers that included Craig Scroggie (Vice President & Managing Director, Pacific Region Symantec), Angela Tucci (Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer Symantec Corporation) and Nick Leeson (otherwise known as the Rogue Trader).

The two keynote speakers from Symantec discussed the future of security within the industry from Symantec Enterprise Solutions to the phenomenon known as the data explosion and mobile devices. The key theme was that businesses need to address new technologies within their business infrastructures in order “surround yourself” with appropriate protection strategies.

According to Angela Tucci “IT trends in mobile, cloud and virtualisation are driving increased connectivity on an unperceived scale. These connections are creating greater opportunities and greater points or risk; risk to our intellectual property, financial integrity, corporate reputation, the control of our individual and corporate identities, privacy and even national infrastructures”.

This was mirrored by the interesting guest speaker, Nick Leeson whose fraudulent and unauthorised speculative trading caused the collapse of the United Kingdom’s oldest investment bank, Barings. Leeson highlighted that his company did not have any real checks or security in place which allowed him to invest millions of dollars in speculative trading.

Tucci also provided some interesting insights into the cloud and linked it back to the origin of Hotmail in 1996 and since then, the data explosion has encompassed elements from social data, enterprise data, e-mail and files which can be a challenge when data mining. Finally, Tucci summed up the importance of protecting businesses, stating that “people pay to protect what they care about” and data in the business world should be our most utmost importance to keeping it safe.

How safe is your business? – Part 1 (Symantec Enterprise Security Media Briefing)

Melbourne Australia, 19 September 2010 – Every year the internet further cements the fact that we are living in a global society and more importantly, a global marketplace. For many businesses, its boundaries are now global as the push for data to move into the cloud not only supports their IT infrastructure but also their security procedures and policies. Given that, cloud computing provides convenient and on-demand network access to shared computer resources and according to many experts is the way of the future for all large businesses.

Unfortunately by being connected to the internet, there are several risks for enterprises and small businesses. Sean Kopelke (Symantec) informs us that Symantec blocked an outstanding 3,050,000,000 attacks in 2010. This was just for Symantec products and is quite a frightening statistic. Kopelke summarised from the following attacks by cyber criminals;

Enterprises
– Targeted Attacks, Data Breaches, End-user disruption, DDOS attacks
Small Businesses
– Bank accounts, Business disruption
End-Users
– ID Theft, Scammed for dollars, Removal Costs
Governments
– Cyber Sabotage, Cyber Espionage, Hactivision

As opposed to the traditional threat landscape where individuals or groups were trying to achieve a notorious name on the internet, the new threat landscape is inspired by making money as opposed to the sometimes “harmless” viruses. Needless to say, the modern threat landscape is constantly changing and with that, criminals continue to adapt to new technologies such as social networking and mobile computing in order target individuals and companies by stealing information and resources.

More concerning is that some criminal organisations are targeting high profile members of companies in order to access their identity to steal and exploit information. One source reported that an executive was targetted by leaving an innocent USB drive in their hotel room. The executive unwillingly put this into his laptop which then ignited the process for the cyber criminals to steal their identity.

Symantec have also noted a high spike in the number of mobile threats and since 2009 to 2010, there has been a 42% increase. These attacks include web/network based attacks, malware, social engineering attacks and resource abuse. This is even more concerning as many users use mobile technologies to access to their business work.

However in this world of doom and gloom, Symantec have recently released Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 that includes three products of this family. Firstly, there is Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition that is for businesses with 100 users or less and allows them to maintain their own infrastructure with all data stored locally. Secondly, there the Symantec Endpoint Protection.Cloud for businesses aimed at companies with less than 250 users which includes a cloud based server with no management hardware needed. Finally, we have Symantec Endpoint Protection for companies of thousands of users which provided central management and is perfect for virtual environments.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 12 finally brings many of the features from their end-user products in order to encompass their Enterprise products. Version 12 boasts the following features that include Unrivalled Security (Powered by insight, real-time behaviour monitoring with Sonar to provide four types of protection), Blazing Performance (Up to 70% reduction in scan overheard, smarter updates, faster management) and is Built for Virtual Environments (Test and optimised for virtual environments, higher VM densities).

As you may have read, Insight is a very powerful tool when keeping your systems safe as it uses a reputation based system to detect unsafe files or those that may have been mutated by malware. By targetting all sectors of business, Symantec ensure that their products cover the entire market and should definitely be considered by IT managers and professionals for protecting their resources and data.

As the amount of data for businesses considerably grows and grows, this phenomenon has been dubbed the data explosion. Whether it’s duplicated data on networks, social networking or using mobile devices such as iPhones or laptops to access company data, protecting this sensitive data does provide a challenge to the IT professional.

Unfortunately when some laptops are out of the office or mobile phones for that matter, especially with the blurring of business and home, users of the Symantec.cloud web Security system provides additional protection such as anti-virus, url filtering or anti spyware for example.

As opposed to downloading documents directly to your mobile device which could pose a safety risk, accessing it via the cloud reduces the chances of attacks considerably. With that said, businesses must address mobile technology in their company policies in order to ensure that all facets are protected, considering that statistically there is a 35% more chance of a user triggering a web policy block when out of the office through torrent or adult sites for example.

Going into the heart of Nintendo Australia in Scoresby Melbourne, the following titles were available for the media to road test which included Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Kid Icarus Uprising, Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident, Kirby’s Adventure Wii, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and <phew>… Just Dance 3.

Before I get to the reviews, Nintendo Australia should have been in the amazing book “Where We Work – Creative Office Spaces” as it’s easily the coolest office around with a life size Link statue, I kid you not and a special room called the playdium where we tested out some of these new titles. What a place! Of course, we’re here for the games so let’s start with Kirby’s Adventure Wii.

When it came to multiplayer fun, Kirby’s Adventure Wii was the standout title which allowed up to four gamers to engage in classic side scrolling arcade action with a 21st century twist. Unlike the original NES game, this title featured a severly overhauled gaming engine that looked and played amazingly on the Wii. With classic Kirby power-ups and a variety of different characters such as Meta Knight and Waddle Dee, this is one Wii title that Nintendo fans should keep an eye out for.

The upcoming Mario Kart for the 3DS is another title that gamers should pay close attention too. Just like the classic game, Mario Kart, this new incarnation of the popular series features stunning 3D graphics and more importantly, revamped gameplay for the 3DS that features some great hang-gliding and underwater levels. While we’re still on the 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land is reminiscent of Mario 64, however incorporates the puzzles and elements of the 2D Super Mario. 3D is used exceptionally well in this game as you jump on blocks and defeat your enemies in classic Mario fashion.

Kid Icarus Uprising, another 3DS title is almost 20 years in the making and returns gamers to Pit as he fights his way through a variety of enemies that is reminiscent of those old school space shooters as you fly around. Apart from air combat, there is also a healthy dose of ground combat with some extraordinary boss battles. My favourite aspect of this title was the various weapons that were available to the gamer.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, another anticipated title of 2011 moves away from the classic Legend of Zelda gameplay and focuses on battles, thanks to the innovative controls of the Wii as you use your sword and shield to defeat a plethora of enemies. Add in sky battles and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is definitely a strange yet enjoyable incarnation of the Zelda series as players return as Link.

With a variety of games on display for the media, the most surprising and addictive title for me was Kirby Mass Attack, the last DS game to be published by Nintendo which reminds me of Lemmings meets the iPad as you use your stylus to flick and move a group of Kirby’s to solve puzzles, collect fruit and overwhelm enemies. It’s addictively entertaining!
