OUT NOW – WONDERBOOK™: BOOK OF SPELLS FROM J.K. ROWLING BRINGS WIZARDRY TO LIFE IN YOUR LIVING ROOM ON PLAYSTATION®3

The long awaited magical spellbook is finally here, combining the latest AR Technology with PlayStation®Move

SYDNEY, 15TH November 2012 – Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is launching their first-of-its-kind experience for PlayStation®3 (PS3™) from SCE London Studios. Using the innovative new PlayStation 3 peripheral, Wonderbook™, Book of Spells will transform the world around you with the next step in augmented reality gaming. It is also the first product to result from Sony’s partnership with Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s unique and free-to-use website that builds an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter™ books.

Harry Potter fans across the country can now get their hands on exclusive new and original writing from J.K. Rowling. Wonderbook: Book of Spells comes to life as you read, allowing you to cast spells with your PlayStation®Move Motion Controller which becomes your own magic wand. Go on a fantastic journey to read and learn the secrets of wizardry and the art of spell-casting, just like a student at Hogwarts.

In the words of J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, “Wonderbook: Book of Spells is the closest a Muggle can come to a real spellbook.  I’ve loved working with Sony’s creative team to bring my spells, and some of the history behind them, to life.  This is an extraordinary device that offers a reading experience like no other.”

In the world of Harry Potter, Book of Spells was written over two hundred years ago by Miranda Goshawk the author of The Standard Book of Spells series. Unlike those volumes, Book of Spells can only be found in the ‘Restricted Section’ of the Hogwarts library. It is an advanced textbook for students, which will assist them on their journey to becoming an accomplished witch or wizard.

Book of Spells provides students with a safe environment in which to read, discover, learn and practise spells they already know and love, such as Incendio, Wingardium Leviosa and Expelliarmus, as well as discover mischievous notes and spells scribbled into the margins by previous Hogwarts students. In addition to humorous anecdotal facts relating to the spells, J.K. Rowling has written a conundrum to lead you through the experience, providing insight into what makes a successful witch or wizard, and inviting fans to journey through the book and unlock new tales at the end of each chapter rewarding students for their successful spell-casting.

Wonderbook: Book of Spells is the first title for Wonderbook, the latest addition to the PlayStation experience. Wonderbook is a powerful storytelling vehicle and tool for the imagination which brings to life a thousand stories in one physical book with a brand new series of adventures and experiences to explore. Putting you at the heart of the action, Wonderbook brings exclusive content to PlayStation 3 owners in immersive new ways using augmented reality technology via PlayStation®Eye to transform the world around you. Bringing mystery and discovery to your living room, the titles will draw you into new worlds, and give you the chance to live in the stories you love. With plenty more projects in the works including Walking with Dinosaurs from the BBC, an exciting partnership with Disney and a quirky new detective title, Diggs Nightcrawler, Wonderbook looks set for a great future.

Wonderbook: Book of Spells is out now in stores nationwide.

GALAXY Note II Arrives in Australia

A powerful smartphone that aims to spark everyone’s creative inspirations

AUSTRALIA, Sydney – November 14, 2012  – Samsung Electronics Australia, today announced the launch of the Samsung GALAXY Note II in Australia, a whole new level of innovation for the GALAXY Note category. The new GALAXY Note II enables personalised experiences and expressive content creation, making it an exceptional smartphone for on-the-go creativity. The GALAXY Note II will be available through Vodafone, Optus and Telstra from next week and can also be pre-ordered from the Samsung Experience Store. The GALAXY Note II 4G1 will also be available on the Optus and Telstra networks.

Samsung GALAXY Note II aims to unleash users’ inner creative spark, by allowing consumers to discover information quickly, capture ideas, and express them efficiently. This is easily achieved using the new S Pen, which provides a precise and natural writing experience that feels like writing with a pen and paper. For people who want to be creative, different and unique, Samsung GALAXY Note II will be the ideal device.

“With the GALAXY Note, Samsung created a different category and we continue to define it with the launch of the GALAXY Note II,” said Tyler McGee, Vice President of Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia. “We have slightly reconfigured the size and we have combined all the intelligent features of the original GALAXY Note with an additional series of specifications that make the GALAXY Note II one of the most impressive and powerful smartphones in the marketplace. The GALAXY Note II offers a truly unique user experience that goes beyond passive content consumption to a different world of productivity, active creation and personalised communications.”

Great viewing experience

The GALAXY Note II features a 5.5” (141mm) HD Super AMOLED Plus display providing brilliant visual clarity. Its 16:9 screen ratio helps ensure an immersive and enriched video viewing experience. Its large screen allows users to see content clearly and vividly, which helps enhance readability. In addition to the rich content consumption experiences, users will also be able to perform tasks efficiently and create content freely, while on-the-go, as the GALAXY Note II comes with a thinner, lighter, yet bigger screen as compared to its predecessor.

Sophisticated S Pen & S Note usage

Everyday tasks on the Samsung GALAXY Note II are made easy and intuitive using S Pen enabled features. Air View allows you to hover with the S Pen over an email, S Note, S Planner, image galleries, or videos to preview the content without having to open it. This gives you quick access to search and view information in detail without screen transitions; and the new gesture pad feature called Quick Command lets you use the S Pen to access shortcuts.

The S Pen’s intuitive features also provide capabilities to capture ideas and inspirations or to combine handwriting with digital content directly on the screen. By simply pressing the dedicated S Pen button, it can recognise that you want to clip or edit the selected content on the screen. This action allows you to instantly crop the screen or its contents in virtually any shape required – ready to save, share or paste – you can also edit Web or digital images with colouring, shading, or your own personal handwriting.

Simple multitasking

Whether you’re watching a video, texting a friend or simply sketching an idea, GALAXY Note II helps make multitasking seamless and intuitive with three new features:

  • Popup Note lets you open an S Note instantly as a pop-up window anywhere on the screen2. For example, you can take notes on S Note while your friend gives you directions over the phone, or even sketch the directions as a map during the conversation. Whatever the task, GALAXY Note II has the tools to keep you active while on-the-go.

  • Popup Web3 is another new multitasking feature. You can now open a web browser anywhere on the screen and open a web link without having to switch between screens.

  • Popup Video extends the concept of ‘Pop up play’ thanks to the breadth of GALAXY Note II’s amazing viewing experience. While watching a video, with the touch of a button, the video will become a floating window on your display. The video will continue to play and it can be repositioned to any part of the GALAXY Note II’s screen. This versatility means you are free to load other applications beneath it to browse online, connect with friends or plan your day.

Powerful Performance

Beyond content creation, sharing and multitasking, the GALAXY Note II provides the performance GALAXY users have expected from Samsung’s latest smartphone offering. A mighty 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor, HSPA Plus and 4G1 connectivity to deliver easy multitasking, fast screen transitions and browsing performance, as well as app start-ups with minimal lag times. GALAXY Note II will launch with Android™ 4.1, JellyBean. This will bring stunning graphical capabilities and a Google Now service including features such as contextual search to GALAXY Note II. The internal memory is 16GB with expandable micro SD memory slot (micro SD sold separately). Additionally, the 3,100mAh battery means users can enjoy multimedia content and be productive on the go, whilst capturing ideas virtually whenever and wherever.

The GALAXY Note II comes with an 8 Megapixel rear-facing camera supporting HD video recording and a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera. The camera has great features like Buddy Photo Share, Burst Shot and Best Photo, which were previously introduced on GALAXY S III. In addition to that, GALAXY Note II features a unique camera function called Best Faces. Best Faces allows users to choose the most preferred face or pose of each person from group portrait photos.

Smart Stay, which was first introduced on the GALAXY S III, uses the camera in the GALAXY Note II to help prevent the device from going into standby mode when it detects a user in front of the camera. Finally, with AllShare® Play4, users can share content with a large group in real-time by connecting the GALAXY Note II to compatible Samsung HD TVs, phones, mobile tablets, laptops, and other compatible consumer electronic devices on the same network.

Additional Standout Features

The Samsung GALAXY Note II also comes with NFC (Near Field Communication), the fast-growing short-range communication technology that enables a variety of features and services ranging from contactless payments and data exchange to user-customised “smart tags”.

With Samsung’s NFC-powered solution TecTiles™, consumers can create their own “action tags” that help make their everyday lives fun and productive. These TecTiles™ tags can automatically change your phone’s settings, launch applications or even update your status on social networks with just a single tap.3

The Samsung TecTiles™ mobile application for Samsung GALAXY S III and NOTE II is now available from the Samsung Apps store5, and TecTiles™ NFC tags will be sold as an accessory from early December 2012 starting at the Samsung Experience Store.

Exciting Australian Content

The GALAXY Note II is an impressive device to experience the diverse range of apps exclusive to Samsung Electronics Australia. For example, the Note II comes preloaded with Navigon, a turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation app. Ideal to use on the 5.5” screen, no data charges apply for using navigation, and FREE map updates are available every 3 months for two years.6

The Samsung Learning Hub5 is an interactive educational solution that allows you to learn with the Samsung GALAXY Note 2 from practically anywhere. From students to adults, anyone can find learning materials customised for the mobile device and delivered virtually on demand. Use the S-Pen to write notes on pages, create memos and highlight important text. Create book marks, listen to audio clips and search key words. Samsung Learning Hub’s cloud database allows you to review study notes, book marks, manage your study schedule and learn on multiple compatible devices. Samsung is partnering with leading Australian education publishers to deliver digital text books and study solutions. The Samsung Learning Hub can also be downloaded from the Samsung Apps store for other compatible GALAXY tablets and smartphones.

Core Capabilities for Enterprise Mobility

As employees become more mobile and the use of technology is more pervasive at the workplace, there is a strong demand and need for enterprises to adopt Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) policies to help drive productivity. To help address the need, Samsung has bolstered its Enterprise Mobility solutions suite in collaboration with industry-leading organisations including MobileIron, Juniper, Citrix, Microsoft, Cisco and Fingi.

The launch of the GALAXY Note II adds to Samsung’s comprehensive portfolio of enterprise mobility devices including the GALAXY Note 10.1, GALAXY S III, GALAXY Tab 2 10.1 and GALAXY Tab 2 7.0 for businesses today. Together with its global partnerships, Samsung is now providing powerful mobile security solutions on the Android platform which are easily interoperable with leading suppliers of mobile device management (MDM), VPN security and other mobile security technologies, enabling enterprises to deliver an outstanding user experience while helping to keep corporate data assets secure.

Pricing and Availability

The GALAXY Note II will be available in two fantastic colours – marble white and titanium grey from $899 RRP (for 16GB) from next week. Pricing and plans for the Samsung GALAXY Note II are available through Optus, Vodafone and Telstra. Consumers can also pre-order the Samsung GALAXY Note II from the Samsung Experience Store at 450 George Street, Sydney.

The first chapter of a new blockbuster “Halo” saga eclipses the biggest movie launch in U.S. box office history; on track to reach over US$300 million in global sales in the first week

“Halo 4” sets two Xbox sales records in Australia

In a year when Hollywood is rolling out its biggest blockbusters, one video game has eclipsed them all. “Halo 4”1 is on track to reach US$300 million in global sales in the first week, making it the biggest “Halo” launch in history and the biggest entertainment launch of the year to date. In the first 24 hours of its release, “Halo 4” garnered more than US$220 million worldwide, eclipsing the record for the biggest day-one opening in U.S. box office history, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” and the biggest movie of 2012, “The Avengers” – based on U.S. sales alone.

Australia continued the global success of “Halo 4” setting two new local records. In a stellar first week “Halo 4” has become the largest ever Halo launch2 in Australia as well as the largest Xbox game launch of 2012.

The release of “Halo 4” propelled lifetime sales for the “Halo” franchise beyond US$3.38 billion, cementing its status as one of the most popular entertainment franchises in the world. “Halo 4” also shattered the record for the largest number of players in the history of the “Halo” franchise, with over 4 million players in the first five days. Users spent a total of 31.4 million hours playing “Halo 4,” pushing the total number of gameplay hours across the “Halo” franchise well beyond the five billion mark.

“We’re thrilled that ‘Halo 4’ has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios. “Thanks to the millions of fans worldwide who helped make this another record-breaking launch for the ‘Halo’ franchise, ‘Halo 4’ is kicking off a strong holiday season and has become the must-have blockbuster experience of the year.”

As further testament to the unprecedented excitement surrounding the launch of “Halo 4,” Microsoft announced that online content for the live-action digital series, “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” has generated more than 46 million total views to date, including 39 million on Machinima.com’s YouTube channel alone.

Hailed by NBC News as “breathtaking, heart-breaking and awe-inspiring,”3 “Halo 4” has garnered universal acclaim as one of the top-rated video games of 2012,4 and sparked a worldwide celebration when it released on Nov. 6. More than 10,000 retail stores in more than 40 countries worldwide, in cities including Seattle, Paris, London, Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Sydney, opened their doors at midnight to commemorate the highly anticipated return of the Master Chief. In London, a massive 50-foot illuminated glyph symbolizing the new threat in “Halo 4” flew over the River Thames, marking one of the largest objects ever to be flown by helicopter as a lighting art performance. Additionally, for one day only, Microsoft transformed the European country of Liechtenstein into a replica of the “Halo” universe, signifying the first time a brand has taken over an entire country for an entertainment launch.

Developed by Microsoft studio 343 Industries exclusively for the Xbox 360, “Halo 4” is the next blockbuster installment of the iconic franchise that has shaped entertainment history and defined a generation of gamers. “Halo 4” continues the story of the series’ iconic hero the Master Chief as he returns to confront his destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe.

The game takes the series in a bold new direction by delivering its most epic and explorative campaign yet, alongside an emotionally resonant story and a groundbreaking multiplayer offering unlike anything before it – setting the stage for an epic new sci-fi saga.

The standard edition of “Halo 4” will be available for AUD $89.95RRP5, and the Limited Edition, which includes an extended 90-minute version of the live-action digital series “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn” and additional bonus content, will be available for AUD $129.95RRP5. These new drives deliver new features to protect, share and save nearly every aspect of one’s digital life. Backup Plus drives come with a hassle-free Seagate Dashboard software for one-click local backup making it easier than ever to eliminate excuses about backing up one’s most valuable digital content. Additionally, Seagate Backup Plus products are the world’s first external hard drives to provide backup for content on social networks, such as Facebook and Flickr. Storing a local duplicate copy of photos from social networks is now as easy as backing up files on your computer. Seagate Backup Plus will provide the peace of mind that nearly every aspect of one’s digital life is safe from loss.

“Seagate is thrilled to have been recognized by the Consumer Electronics Association for our latest offering of external storage, Backup Plus hard drives,” said Scott Horn, vice president of Marketing at Seagate. “This prestigious award helps underscore the important role storage plays in everything that people do today. Backup Plus storage illustrates that simplicity in design and function to address consumer needs is a true example of innovation.”

The prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the producer of the International CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976.
