CHAPLIN: KEYSTONE COLLECTION, the perfect gift! Available on DVD December 5

On December 5, just in time for the silly season, Transmission Home Entertainment will be releasing Charlie Chaplin’s KEYSTONE COLLECTION. A four-disc DVD set of thirty-five of this marvelous actor/director’s films, lovingly restored to be enjoyed by all – fans, film buffs, families and those yet to discover his work.

Charles Chaplin came to Mack Sennett’s Keystone Studios late in 1913 as a little-known British vaudevillian and, after a year, had established his Tramp character, learnt to write and direct his own films and achieved public recognition as a star comedian. Although Keystone did not publicise its performers by name, standees of Chaplin’s likeness outside theatres sufficed to attract audiences. Some of the films, especially Tillie’s Punctured Romance, remained in theatrical distribution for decades.

The Keystone Collection presents thirty-five of Chaplin’s films made during his time at the Keystone Studios, painstakingly restored from early-generation materials gathered from around the world. One can now understand his meteoric rise; for the first time in generations it is possible to see clearly the clever and imaginative films this enigmatic actor/director made at Keystone.

Available on DVD December 5.

PLAYSTATION®3 SALES REACH 70 MILLION UNITS WORLDWIDE

Sales of PlayStation®Move Motion Controller Surpass 15 Million Units Worldwide

Tokyo, November 16, 2012– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation®3 (PS3®) computer entertainment system reached a milestone of 70 million units*1 worldwide as of November 4, 2012 – less than six years after the platform launched in 2006. SCE also announced that sales of the PlayStation®Move motion controller surpassed 15 million units*1 worldwide as of November 11, demonstrating continued growth and momentum of the PS3® platform.

The PS3® system has delivered high quality, award-winning entertainment experiences since its launch. Throughout its lifecycle, the PS3® system has continued to evolve with more streamlined design, larger Hard Disk Drive (HDD) capacity, and new features through software updates. In September 2012, SCE launched the new PS3® system, which has a reduced volume and weight of more than 50 percent compared to the original PS3® model, and of 25 percent and 20 percent respectively compared to the slim PS3 model launched in 2009.  The new PS3® has been well received by consumers around the world.

Along with the introduction of PS3® in November 2006, SCE launched PlayStation®Network, which now operates in 59 countries and regions*2 around the world.  PlayStation Network supports free community-centric online gameplay, exclusive games from independent developers and major publishers, and a broad range of entertainment applications across movies, music, and sports. PS3 owners can access 170,000 downloadable digital content including 57,000 game content worldwide from PlayStation Network*3.  In October 2012, SCE redesigned PlayStation®Store for PS3®, offering a more streamlined and accessible store experience, including a stunning new user interface, simple search, and powerful content discovery. The new store is now available in Europe and North and Latin America with more countries and regions to follow.

PlayStation®Plus, the subscription service package on PlayStation®Store that offers exclusive benefits such as discounts on games or online storage for game saves, started to offer an “Instant Game Collection” in North America and Europe in July 2012. The Instant Game Collection enables PS Plus members to enjoy popular titles from third party developers and publishers as well as SCE Worldwide Studios at no extra cost.  SCE has also enhanced the content offering for PS Plus members in Japan in November.

Introduced in September 2010, the PlayStation®Move motion controller that enables users to intuitively play games is now supported by a wide range of titles with more than 400 as of November 2012, including Sports Champions 2, Unfinished Swan (Sony Computer Entertainment). Additionally, this month marks the global launch of Wonderbook™, a new peripheral that delivers the next evolution of storytelling and a unique experience exclusively on PS3. Wonderbook*4 uses the PlayStation®Eye camera to take augmented reality to spectacular new places, while drawing players into new worlds and allowing them to interact with stories as they tilt or rotate it, or simply turn the pages*5.

PS3® has gained tremendous support from 3rd party developers and publishers worldwide. Cumulative number of software titles for PS3® reached 3,590 with more than 595 million units sold worldwide*6. More exciting and attractive new titles are to be released from third party developers and publishers as well as SCE Worldwide Studios, including Assassin’s Creed III (Ubisoft Entertainment.), FIFA 13(Electronic Arts Inc.), PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (Sony Computer Entertainment) towards the holiday season. In addition, software titles that support “cross platform feature” such as LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross Controller Pack, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (Sony Computer Entertainment) are also expected to be released.  With these titles, SCE will deliver a ground-breaking gaming experience by leveraging the capabilities of both PS3® and PlayStation®Vita.

SCE will continue to further expand the PS3® platform and create a world of computer entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation.

The free-to-play MMO action game World of Tanks was published in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand in May of 2012. The thrilling PvP gameplay, convenient payment options, region specific localization and high-level customer support services enabled Wargaming to capture a solid share of the Southeast Asian market. A high-quality gameplay experience and smart strategic marketing concept secured a loyal Wargaming community that now includes more than 700,000 tankmen. The impressive growth in Southeast Asia creates great opportunities for Wargaming and the company places high priority on increasing its presence within the region.

About World of Tanks

World of Tanks is the first and only team-based, massively multiplayer online action game dedicated to armored warfare. A flexible system of authentic vehicle upgrades and development allows you to try any of the vehicles and weapons in the game. Whether you prefer to exhaust your foes with fast and maneuverable light tanks, make deep breaches in enemy lines with all-purpose medium tanks, use the force of giant tanks to eliminate opposing armored forces, or become a heavy sniper with long-range howitzers, each unit type has its own advantages and can be extremely effective when operated by a true tank ace.

But being a great tank commander alone isn’t enough to win! In World of Tanks, it’s all about teamwork. Victory is achieved by combining your combat skills with those of the other members of your team, each playing their own role on the battlefield. Just add your favorite strategy to build your own steel empire and manifest the indisputable authority of the tank power!

McAfee Threats Report Shows Global Expansion of Cybercrime

Report Reveals Further Details of “Operation High Roller,” Explores Evolution of Ransomware, Shows Malware Topping 100 Million Samples, and Finds Database Breaches at All-Time High

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Nov. 14, 2012 – McAfee today released the McAfee Threats Report: Third Quarter 2012, which explores techniques in cybercrime as well as the global evolution of cyber exploits.  The latest report uncovers new details of “Operation High Roller,” tracks that mobile malware almost doubled the previous quarter’s total, and reveals an all-time high in database breaches. McAfee Labs also saw jumps in some categories of malware, including ransomware and signed binaries. Rootkits and Mac malware continue to rise, while password-stealing Trojans and AutoRun malware also trended strongly upward.

“Cybercrime exhibits few signs of slowing down,” said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs. “Though we tend to highlight the numbers, the fact is that we continue to see increased sophistication of attacks. Cybercrime, hacktivism, and cyberwarfare are in a continual state of evolution.  Everyone from governments to large enterprises, small business and home users are facing a wider range of digital threats from these forces, as they gain more actionable intelligence on their victims, and leverage the newest attack platforms and exploits tools to launch their campaigns. We all need to equip ourselves with basic situation awareness to our online risks and how best to prevent and combat these threats.”

Each quarter, the McAfee Labs team of 500 multidisciplinary researchers in 30 countries follows the complete range of threats in real time, identifying application vulnerabilities, analysing and correlating risks, and enabling instant remediation to protect enterprises and the public.  This quarter, McAfee Labs identified the following trends:

  • Financial Fraud Ring Extends Worldwide Reach: Online financial fraud      attacks have spread worldwide in Q3. New research indicates that Operation      High Roller, a financial fraud ring identified earlier this year by McAfee      Labs and Guardian Analytics, has now spread outside Europe, including to      the United States and Colombia. Cybercriminals set up an automated      transfer system (ATS) that was used to attack European financial      institutions, and set out to target a major U.S. multinational financial      institution.
  • Ransomware Continues to Evolve:  In Q3, the number      of unique samples of ransomware, which extorts money from its victims,      grew by another 43 per cent, making it one of the fastest-growing areas of      cybercrime. Devices are infected via links in email and social networks,      drive-by downloads, and pay-per-install methods. Most malware typically      accuses the user of visiting illegal websites, locks the computer, and      then demands a payment to unlock the device. Although victims can pay,      they are not guaranteed complete system restores.
  • Malware “Zoo” Tops 100 Million: While growth in      malware slowed slightly this quarter, the overall number in the malware      “zoo” still topped 100 million samples, as predicted. Mobile malware      almost doubled the previous quarter’s total, while the Android platform      remains the largest target. McAfee Labs now sees an average of 100,000 new      malware samples per day. Since January, signed malware has doubled, which      has implications for global trust infrastructure.
  • Database Breaches at an All-Time High: The total number of      data breaches in 2012 has already surpassed the figure for the entire 2011      calendar year; this year, close to 100 new database-related      vulnerabilities have been disclosed or silently patched by developers.
  • Stealth Malware Shows Steady Growth: Showing steady growth      in Q3, this type of stealth malware is known as one of the “nastiest”      classifications because they are designed to evade detection.
  • Web Threats Increase 20 per cent: Among web and messaging      threats, we saw a 20 per cent increase this quarter in suspicious URLs,      with a vast number of these URLs hosting malware. Almost 64 per cent of      these newly discovered suspect URLs are mainly located in North America.
