Discover the Night Sky at Scienceworks Celebrating the International Year of Astronomy in 2009

The Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks presents special after-dark sessions on Thursday evenings throughout March. The Discover the Night Sky program is a unique experience allowing visitors to learn about the mysteries of the night sky.

Visitors will have the opportunity to a chat with the Planetarium’s Astronomer, enjoy wine and cheese, and be immersed in a Planetarium experience. If weather permits, each session will conclude with stargazing through telescopes.

Each Discover the Night Sky evening will showcase a different aspect of the night sky.

Thursday 5 March:  Backyard Astronomy
It’s not just stars you can see in the night sky – planets, comets, shooting stars and satellites are all there if you know when and where to look. Navigate by the stars and discover how you can become a backyard astronomer.

Thursday 12 March:  Travel the Universe
We invite you on a tour of the Universe that will take you from Spotswood to the far reaches of space. You know the Universe is big, really big, but nothing can compare with experiencing it for yourself.

Thursday 19 March: Leaving Earth
It’s been 50 years since the first satellite was launched into space. Now one satellite – the International Space Station – is a permanent home. See what it’s like to live in space; why do we go there and where are we heading next?

Thursday 26 March:  Milky Way Galaxy
We live on one planet, orbiting one star, among the 400 billion-odd stars of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is a truly magnificent spectacle, a swirling mass of stars, gas and dust. But what do we know of our home galaxy? And how did we come to discover it?

Discover the Night Sky is part of a program run by Melbourne Planetarium to celebrate the International Year of Astronomy. “This year marks 400 years since Galileo Galilei first turned a telescope to the sky”, said Dr Tanya Hill, Melbourne Planetarium Astronomer. “Discover the Night Sky encourages the everyday ‘backyard’ astronomer to be swept away by the beauty of the stars. Each week we delve into a different fascinating topic and reveal a little more about the mysteries of the Universe and beyond.”

SYMANTEC BOOSTS AUSTRALIAN MOTORSPORT

SYDNEY, Australia – March 4, 2009 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), makers of Norton security software, has accelerated its involvement in Australian motorsport, announcing a major partnership between its Norton 360 brand and the V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Symantec will partner with Triple Eight Race Engineering, with the Norton 360 logo featuring on the TeamVodafone V8 Supercars driven by current V8 Supercar champion, Jamie Whincup and V8 Supercar legend, Craig Lowndes.

Symantec will also be the naming rights sponsor of the Melbourne round of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series, to be called the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge.

The partnership with TeamVodafone and Triple Eight Race Engineering is an extension of an existing relationship with Symantec and Craig Lowndes, who carried the Norton logo on his helmet and race suit throughout the 2008 season.

“Our partnership with Craig Lowndes has been extremely successful, helping raise consumer awareness of Internet safety issues and promoting the speed and performance of our products,” said Symantec’s consumer spokesperson Pacific, Matthew Drake.

“Motorsport is a great platform for communication with consumers given our products are engineered for speed.”

Lowndes became the Norton Internet Safety Ambassador for Australia and New Zealand at the beginning of last year, and continues to promote online safety and security to consumers.

“Our partnership with the team complements the awareness-raising work we have been doing with Craig in our region, as well as various Symantec online safety programs currently underway elsewhere in the world,” said Drake.

Team principal, Roland Dane, says the partnership with Symantec is a great boost to his championship-winning team.

“Any time motor racing attracts a major new corporate sponsor it’s a good thing,” said Dane.

“Given the current economic environment, the addition of a fortune 500 company like Symantec on the cars is particularly helpful to our prospects of defending the Supercar title.”

Chief Executive Officer of V8 Supercars Australia, Cameron Levick, has welcomed Symantec’s increased commitment to V8 racing.

“Like a number of other key sponsors Symantec clearly sees good value in V8 Supercars and we are pleased that the audience of the sport aids the awareness-raising objectives,” said Levick.

“This is a key announcement for our sport as we and our teams continue to defy current commercial trends. We welcome Symantec, through the Norton name, into our sport and look forward to a lengthy relationship.”

The Norton 360 Sandown Challenge will comprise two sprint-length races on August 1 and 2, 2009.

The new Sandown race promoter, V8 Supercar Events, says Symantec’s sponsorship will help to rebuild the Melbourne race as a major event on the V8 Championship calendar.

“Our aim this year is to restore some of the prestige to Sandown as an iconic inner-city race venue,” said Levick.

“The Norton 360 sponsorship gives the Sandown race a strong platform for future growth and will allow us to provide a better experience for race-goers.”

The Norton 360 Sandown Challenge will also be an occasion to thank Victorian fire-fighters for their efforts during the recent deadly bushfires. Five hundred of the fire-fighters will receive tickets to the Melbourne race courtesy of Symantec.

Sydney, Australia – March 4, 2009 – This month, gamers will again be able to expand their virtual set lists with over a dozen new downloadable tracks for Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero® World Tour.  With over 37 million songs downloaded for the franchise to date, Guitar Hero® fans will soon be able to experience more awesome music – from the likes of English rock ‘n’ roll icons Queen, guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, a host of European superstars and more – which will join the more than 550 songs rocking the Guitar Hero catalogue already.

On March 5th, Guitar Hero World Tour’s global music library will continue to grow with three additional tracks from some of Europe’s greatest bands.  The third European Track Pack, which includes the hit song “Break It Out” by Italian pop punk band Vanilla Sky and “In the Shadows” by one of Finland’s most successful bands, The Rasmus, will also contain “C’est Comme Ça”  the top single from French pop rock duo Les Rita Mitsouko’s 1986 album The No Comprendo.

As a follow-up to the third European Track Pack, rockers from the Netherlands, Germany and Spain will also be contributing to Guitar Hero World Tour’s increasing catalogue of downloadable content.  On March 19th, the Dutch symphonic rock/metal band Within Temptation takes the virtual stage with “What Have You Done,” the first single off their fourth studio album The Heart of Everything. Joining them are German punk band Die Toten Hosen, who made their debut appearance in Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock, playing an encore as part of the full band experience with their 1988 hit “Hier Kommt Alex” and Spanish rock band M-Clan with their classic song “Carolina.”

Already appearing as an in game playable character; on March 19th, guitar savant and music legend Jimi Hendrix returns to Guitar Hero World Tour’s stage once again with an extraordinary three song Track Pack that will set fans fingers ablaze as they strive to keep up with his intense guitar riffs and insane solos.  The second Jimi Hendrix Track Pack features “Freedom” and” Angel,” two hit singles off of his First Rays of the New Rising Sun album, and a one of a kind 1969 live from Woodstock recording of the timeless classic “Foxey Lady.”  Additionally, the songs from the first Jimi Hendrix Track Pack – “If 6 was 9,” “Little Wing” and “Fire” – will also be available on March 19th as downloadable singles for Wii™.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Queen, one of the greatest and most influential bands of all-time, take centre stage on March 26th with downloadable content for Guitar Hero World Tour.  The three song Queen Track Pack contains some of the band’s most iconic tracks including the power ballad, “We Are The Champions,” which has become one of the most common anthems celebrating the ultimate victory, as well as “Fat Bottomed Girls” from the 1978 album Jazz and “C-lebrity,” from their 2008 album with Paul Rodgers, The Cosmos Rocks.

On March 26th, Bond aficionados and Guitar Hero rockers alike will have another reason to celebrate as Guitar Hero World Tour releases a new recording of the classic James Bond theme song as downloadable content.

The two European Track Packs, Jimi Hendrix Track Pack and Queen Track Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 440 Microsoft Points and on the PlayStation®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system for $9.95.  The songs in the two European Track Packs, Queen Track Pack plus the James Bond Track will be released as downloadable singles for Xbox 360 for 160 Microsoft Points, PLAYSTATION 3 system for $3.45 and Wii™ for 200 Wii Points each.  The Jimi Hendrix tracks will be available as downloadable singles for Wii for 200 Wii Points.

Guitar Hero World Tour transforms music gaming by expanding Guitar Hero’s signature guitar gameplay into a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless controllers with new revolutionary online* and offline gameplay modes including Band Career and 8-player “Battle of the Bands,” which allows two full bands to compete head-to-head online.  The game features a slick newly redesigned guitar controller, drum kit controller and a wired microphone, as well as an innovative Music Studio music creator that lets players compose, record, edit and share their own rock ‘n’ roll anthems.  Music creators are also able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunesSM where other gamers can download and play an endless supply of unique creations.

Guitar Hero World Tour is now available for Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Wii home video game system from Nintendo and the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system.  The game is rated “PG” (Mild themes and Violence, Sexual references and mild coarse language) by the Classification Board.  For more information on Guitar Hero World Tour, please visit worldtour.guitarhero.com.
