AIE/Deep Silver media alert: Pre-order bonuses for Metro: Last Light

Deep Silver and All Interactive Entertainment can today confirm the Australian pre-order bonuses for Metro: Last Light. In addition to the standard game, players who pre-order from:

  • EB Games will receive the Ranger Mode DLC and the acclaimed Metro 2033 paperback novel
  • JB Hi-Fi will receive the Special Edition in-game RPK light machine gun and a Metro LED handheld torch

Recommended for Metro veterans, Ranger Mode offers the ultimate challenge, featuring a HUD-free display for increased immersion, deadlier combat, and dramatically limited resources such as ammunition and gas mask filters. Players who dare to rise to the challenge will benefit from a unique Ranger load out, including an exclusive weapon, the Russian AK-SU, and be rewarded with additional 100 military grade rounds with which to customise their starting equipment.

Metro: Last Light is a first-person shooter and the highly anticipated sequel to the extraordinary Metro 2033. In the year 2034, a nuclear war has turned the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. In Moscow, the tunnels of the Metro have become a new home for the former inhabitants of the city. Within the catacombs, they fight for their survival, fending off hordes of hideous mutants born from the toxic atmosphere, as well as other factions desperate to take control of what little hospitable land remains. As they fight, they also search for a doomsday device that could be the key to their victory. A civil war is inevitable. During these dark hours, the players will embody Artyom, and become the last light for all of mankind.

The plot of Metro: Last Light was written by Dmitry Glukhovsky, acclaimed author of the novel Metro 2033 which inspired the creation of both video games. Also, Glukhovsky is responsible for all dialogue in Metro: Last Light. Glukhovsky’s novels Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 have sold more than 2,000,000 copies worldwide. In 2013, his latest book Metro 2035 will be also available outside of Russia.

Metro: Last Light will be available from May 16 in Australia for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

MARK NICHOLAS, DAVID LLOYD AND MICHAEL SLATER THE FIRST COMMENTATORS CONFIRMED FOR ASHES CRICKET 2013

Ex-professionals bring over 30 years of experience to in game commentary

Sydney, Australia – March 28, 2013 – 505 Games today announced the first three commentators to feature in the official ASHES CRICKET 2013 video game, this winter. Lead commentator for Channel 5 in the UK and Australia’s Channel 9, Mark Nicholas, will be joined by ex-England head coach and Sky Sports pundit, David Lloyd and ex-Australian international and Channel 9 commentator Michael Slater.

Mark Nicholas acts as the lead commentator of the three. Although being an Englishman by birth, and playing for Hampshire for over 17 years, he has since made his name as a television presenter. Nicholas is the anchor of Channel 5 cricket coverage in the UK and also anchor of Channel 9 coverage during the Australian summer cricket season.

David Lloyd, affectionately known as Bumble, brings a wealth of experience and good humour to the game that cricket fans have come to expect from his dulcet tones. Famous for his array of catchphrases, such as “This pitch is as flat as a dodo” and “England have nothing to lose here, apart from this Test match”, Bumble was England coach during the 1997 Ashes series before becoming a Sky Sports commentator in 1999.

Finally, ex-Australian international, Michael Slater completes the commentating line up. Known as ‘Slats’ in the commentary box, he has been commentating on Channel 9 for seven years. Slater played in four Ashes series, scoring 1669 runs including a remarkable seven hundreds. He played 74 Tests for Australia between1993 – 2001.

“Whether listening on the radio or watching on TV, commentary is a key part to the overall experience,” commented Ralph Pitt-Stanley, General Manager for UK & Export at 505 Games. “It was therefore important we faithfully replicated this in ASHES CRICKET 2013 and with Bumble, Nicholas and Slater we have three of the finest and most loved commentators in the game today.”

Further details on ASHES CRICKET 2013 will be revealed exclusively over the coming months via the official website community forums at www.ashescricket2013.com, via Facebook at /ashescricket2013 and twitter @ashescricket13.

ASHES CRICKET 2013 is being distributed in Australia and New Zealand by All Interactive Entertainment.

Telltale and DC Entertainment Announce ‘The Wolf Among Us’

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Mar.  28, 2013 — Leading developer and publisher of digital entertainment, Telltale Games, in cooperation with DC Entertainment, unleashes ‘The Wolf Among Us’ this summer. Based on Bill Willingham’s award-winning comic book series ‘FABLES’ and licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Telltale Games will premiere its new series on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®Network, and on PC and Mac from the Telltale Online Store and other digital distribution outlets.

A consistent New York Times bestseller, ‘FABLES’ is one of DC Entertainment’s longest-running series published under its Vertigo imprint since 2002.  With over a dozen Eisner Awards, including Best Writer, Best New Series, and numerous wins for Best Serialized Story, the FABLES universe has become one of the richest mythologies in the world of comics, imagining that characters like Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf and Pinocchio from the world’s most beloved storybooks are real – Real, and living among us, with all of their powers intact.

“Developing ‘The Wolf Among Us’ based on the ‘FABLES’ universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players,” said Dan Connors, CEO and Co-Founder of Telltale Games. “Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks.”

Set prior to the events seen in the first issue of the FABLES comic book series, The Wolf Among Us puts players in the role of Bigby Wolf, a man once more infamously known as The Big Bad Wolf.  Now the sheriff of a hidden community in New York City, exiled from the land of fairy tales, Bigby is tasked by the bureaucrat Snow White to keep order within a society of mythical creatures and characters trying to remain undetected in the world of the mundane.  From a chain-smoking member of ‘The Three Little Pigs,’ to a car-stealing Mr. Toad itching for his next wild ride, The Wolf Among Us examines the lives of beings straight from the pages of myth and lore, now trying to survive on the meanest and most run-down streets of New York City.

How to Remove Data from Old Mobile Devices: AVG Tips

Data often lingers after factory reset

Melbourne  – 27 March, 2013 –  AVG Technologies AU today released valuable tips on how consumers can remove their personal data before they recycle or throw away their old smartphones. In an era of frequent and seamless device upgrades, it’s easy to ditch an old handset and move on to the next. However, chances are the old device has personal information lingering on it, putting consumers at a greater risk of identity theft. According to AVG’s research, 25 percent of people keep intimate photos or videos on their smartphone.

“Think about all the personal data stored on your phone: text messages, emails, even intimate photos of you or your significant other,” Michael McKinnon, Security Advisor at AVG, said. “Consumers are now carrying more and more personal information on their devices, and AVG wants to ensure everyone is well equipped to wipe out that data when the time comes. Your identity is essentially yours to lose, so take every precaution possible to stay safe.”

While the factory reset button seems like the logical place to start, numerous industry and security experts report that even after consumers carry out this exercise, personal information often remains. The following tips will help ensure private information is erased:

·         Remove the memory and SIM cards. Both store personal data and are best kept safe in your possession or destroyed.

·         Use a data removal application to ensure data really is deleted. Android users can use AVG AntiVirus Free™, for example.  For other platforms there is a list of apps available on the CTIA web site.

·         Once the data is deleted, then run a factory reset. Instructions can be found on manufacturers’ or carriers’ websites.

·         If you are going to simply throw away your mobile phone, older handsets can contain toxic materials. Consult your local authority or drop it off at a mobile phone retailer, where they will be able to dispose of it correctly. Additionally, there are specialist companies that will take it apart and recycle each component.

·         Of course, recycling or handing it on for use is a good option; there are many charities and organisations that redistribute old phones and will even send you a pre-paid postage box to send it in. Just search on the Internet for the many options!

For tips on how to remove data from PCs, USB sticks etc, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH37QH_HXHM, or to learn about AVG’s product offerings, please visit www.avg.com.au.
