STEEL BATTALION HEAVY ARMOR CONFIRMED FOR PAX. TUTORIAL VIDEO AVAILABLE NOW

Today sees the release of the Steel Battalion Heavy Armor instructional video on how to be a VT (Vertical Tank) Pilot. This video shows what is needed to successfully take command of a VT using a combination of the regular controller and Kinect® for Xbox 360. 

Everyone attending PAX East in Boston on April 6 until April 8 2012 will be able to play the game for the very first time. Players will be able to try out the Manhattan Beach Landing at the Capcom booth (950), while a brand new exclusive mission set in downtown New York is playable at the Microsoft booth (524). 

Set in 2082, Steel Battalion Heavy Armor depicts a world devoid of computers, where war is waged with rudimentary weapons as new superpowers struggle for dominance. In this low-tech era there is one weapon class that will determine the course of the war – the Vertical Tank. Players take on the role of VT pilot Sgt. Powers as the battle to regain the United States from Chinese occupation begins.

Discover the science and wonder of Narnia at the Powerhouse Museum

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition, based on the blockbuster film series and C.S. Lewis’ beloved fictional books, opens at the Powerhouse Museum on 12 May 2012. This state-of-the-art entertainment and educational experience offers visitors the opportunity to tour scenes from the famed literary world of Narnia. Through authentic costumes, props and set dressings from the magical Narnia films, visitors will enter a three-dimensional world that combines the wonders of science with aspects of fantasy.

Narnia scenes and characters will captivate visitors and take them on a journey of discovery. Can animals communicate with humans? Can we really manipulate the climate? How does our existence impact the Earth? These are but a few of the science-related questions raised in the exhibition that will challenge people to think about how they live today.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition is produced by Global Experience Specialists, Inc. (GES) in partnership with Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. The exhibition is showing only at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney until 26 August 2012.

“The Narnia exhibition combines science with the wonders of myth, magic and adventure created by the films and timeless work of C.S. Lewis.  It is our hope that the exhibition will be a springboard for visitors to continue their scientific enquiry beyond Narnia; perhaps to other areas of the Museum such as our Ecologic exhibition that explores such issues as sustainable living and climate change today,” said Dr Dawn Casey, Director, Powerhouse Museum.

“This exhibition is a truly entertaining experience for all ages,” said Eddie Newquist, EVP and Chief Creative Officer, GES. “From the scene displays and props from the Narnia films, to the scientific and educational aspects of the exhibition that stimulate the senses and the mind, guests will be transported into another world to experience Narnia like never before. Once inside The Chronicles of Narnia exhibition, visitors will encounter several fun, hands-on elements including:

  • A replica of the White Witch’s Throne where visitors can sit and feel the chill of the icy throne; a nearby display describes the impact of climate change on our planet and investigates whether our planet could be frozen for 100 years, like the world of Narnia.
  • An interactive frozen waterfall, icy to the touch, with a display on the science behind why water freezes.
  • A model of King Miraz’s Castle, which offers visitors the opportunity to build an arch and learn about the principles of its design and structure.
  • An area highlighting the mythical creatures of Narnia, which allows visitors to create their own creatures featured in the films.
  • A large-scale map of Narnia’s world highlights locations from the famous story.
  • A metal armor suit and swords can be touched and lifted to experience their tremendous weight.
  • A working catapult demonstrates how this medieval device can hurl an object great distances.

Visitors will also come face-to-face with characters and creatures from Narnia including Reepicheep, a Minotaur and Centaurs, as well as costumes of key characters including the White Witch and the Pevensie children.  A recreation of C.S. Lewis’ study, where he wrote the Narnia adventures, is also shown in the exhibition.

“The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of classic children’s books that appears on the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge for primary school years five and six. As we celebrate the National Year of Reading in 2012, we hope that the exhibition will encourage children to read Lewis’ fantastic series or serve as a reward for those children who have read the books by bringing the world of Narnia to life for them!” said Dr Casey.

Imperva Deconstructs Local and Remote File Inclusion Attack Vectors

Latest report from Hacker Intelligence Initiative provides detailed overview of widely used but lesser known Internet threat 

Sydney, Aust., April 4, 2012 – Imperva (NYSE: IMPV), a pioneer and leader of a new category of data security solutions for high-value business data in the data center, today released its latest Hacker Intelligence Initiative report exploring how Local and Remote File Inclusion (RFI/LFI) attacks enable hackers to execute malicious code and steal data through the manipulation of a company’s web server. RFI/LFI attacks made up 21% of all application attacks observed by Imperva in its review of attacks across 40 applications from June – November 2011. 

RFI and LFI attacks take advantage of vulnerable PHP Web application parameters by including a URL reference to remotely host arbitrary code, enabling remote execution. PHP is a programming language designed for Web development and whose use is prevalent in applications on the Internet.  

“LFI and RFI are popular attack vectors for hackers because it is less known and extremely powerful when successful,” said Tal Be’ery, Imperva’s senior web researcher. “We observed that hacktivists and for-profit hackers utilized these techniques extensively in 2011, and we believe it is time for the security community to devote more attention to the issue.” 

Highlights from the report include: 

RFI/LFI “In the Wild” – A discussion of real-world RFI/LFI attacks, such as how LFI compromised 1.2M WordPress websites via a TimThumb vulnerability, provides the context needed into the importance of awareness of the technique. 

RFI/LFI Deconstructed – A visual step-by-step technical analysis of an RFI-infected file demonstrates how shell code obfuscates the attack vector, highlighting how it can avoid traditional detection and mitigation techniques. 

Evolution of RFI/LFI – From Remote File Inclusion to Local File Inclusion, hackers continue to develop new attack vectors to evade anti-malware by splitting across multiple fields in infected files. 

Techniques to Mitigate RFI/LFI – Introduces a novel approach to mitigate against RFI attacks by utilizing a shell hosting feed.
