Personalised 3D audio Arrives for Gaming over Headphones

Launch of MyEars™ brings full immersion and competitive advantage for gamers

Sydney, Aust., 15th July 2010 – Personal Audio, experts in 3D audio technology, today announced the launch of MyEars™, a service that provides personalised 3D headphone audio for gamers. If you want full immersion and a competitive advantage in gaming, the MyEars service gives you what your current headphones can’t.

Current 3D headphone audio for games is a “generic” solution rather than individualised and is a poor imitation of the real “free field” listening experience. Problems including poor externalisation, poor localisation, poor sound quality and increased listener fatigue.

Developed by Personal Audio, MyEars™ is a patented technology, invented and developed in Australia, which is personalised to your ears so that you can discover what it means to video game in true 3D audio.

MyEars™ personalises 3D audio to produce a significant leap in the perceptual quality of the spatial audio in a games environment. Gamers experience an enhanced sense of presence, making them feel as if they are actually part of the virtual world they are playing in. This results in a much greater sense of engagement and a competitive advantage for gamers.

MyEars™ launches as an annual subscription service with MyEars Connect™, Personal Audio’s PC-gaming solution, with other platforms to follow later this year. MyEars Connect enables perfect 7.1 surround sound over headphones in all Windows legacy games that support surround sound, which most NextGen games provide.

The introduction of the MyEars™ service follows the collaboration started in March 2009 between Personal Audio and Firelight Technologies to integrate MyEars™ with the premier audio games engine FMOD. This integration will enable the native delivery of MyEars’ fully immersive 3D audio to forthcoming FMOD based games for PCs.

The MyEars engine enables the creation of a unique audio profile for each user, which is what separates the service from other headphone based 3D audio technologies. The MyEars™ personalisation process allows the web based prediction engine to understand the unique qualities of each user’s ears and how they filter sound – which is what your brain has calibrated to. Each user profile is created using a combination of responses during the personalisation process and MyEars prediction engine’s knowledge of how those responses correspond to the user’s individual hearing profile characteristics.

The web based service will store multiple profiles for any subscriber depending on the type of headphone they are using (different headphones also need to be calibrated to get the optimum performance) and users can download and install the software any number of times and on as many computers as they like while their subscription is current.

MyEars’ audio features will be continually updated to deliver the perfect 3D audio experience and subscribers will receive each of these upgrades as part of their ongoing subscription. The annual subscription service for MyEars is available for $60 per year.

MyEars will be moving from beta to a full subscription model before 1st August 2010 so early subscribers will be able to try the beta service for free. To sign up and experience true 3D audio gaming over headphones visit www.myears.net.au.
