SYDNEY – March 11, 2010- Animania, Australia’s biggest and original Japanese pop culture festival is kick-starting a year of exciting events on Saturday, March 20 at the Australian Technology Park.
There are a number of quirky, family-friendly activities including Giant Twister, the Gamer Room, origami mini-workshops, karaoke, and classic anime screenings.
Cosplay Chess: Instead of chess pieces, cosplayers (or costume-players) act out their chess piece on a giant chess board – dressed as their favourite Japanese pop-culture personality! Battleship: A funky twist on dodgeball – the team that sinks the most “ships” wins! Newspaper Cosplay: A game of stylish improvisation in costume-making. GAME SHOW: A take on Japan’s wacky game-show genre, filled with laughter, music, audience participation, and free giveaways! COSPLAY

Cosplay, a form of performance art is a costume spectacular bringing together vivid colour, extravagance, and eccentricity in a showcase of devotion by fans. From the catwalk to role-play skits, cosplay is open to everyone!
Special guests will include Brigitte Böttcher, the winner of the 2009 World Cosplay Summit in Germany, as well as guest performances from previous Australian winners.
