Become a Customs Detective at the Immigration Museum these school holidays

Grab a special adventure booklet, make your own magnifying glass and snoop your way around the Immigration Museum following clues and answering riddles in the footsteps of famous Customs Detectives, from 27 March to 11 April 2010.

 

School holiday activities include:

 

Customs Detective

Follow a special detective trail through the Immigration Museum. By answering questions and spotting clues you can discover the amazing story of the Old Customs House. Try the Senior Customs Detective hunt and find objects hidden in each of the galleries.

Time: 10am – 5pm Daily

Make your own magnifying glass

Create your very own toy magnifying glass using recycled cardboard rolls, cricket ball off-cuts, and decorations to help you find objects in the Museum. It’s fun to do and good for the environment!

Time: 10am – 5pm Daily

Design a detective badge

Design and make your own detective badge and look just like Customs Detective John Christie. Wear your badge while you hunt for objects and snoop your way through the Museum.  

Time: 10am – 5pm Daily

Story telling from around the world

Join us twice a day to hear heart-warming immigration stories from around the world, read by Immigration Museum staff. Be captivated by amazing stories of journeys to Australia.

Time: 11am and 1pm Monday to Friday

Australia’s Muslim Cameleers: Pioneers of the Inland 1860s – 1930s

This exhibition reveals the remarkable contribution that Australia’s first Muslim community, from Afghanistan and British India, made to the exploration and settlement of Australia’s arid interior. Cameleers assisted all major expeditions into Australia’s uncharted interior starting with the Burke and Wills expedition in 1860 and have contributed significantly to Australia’s economic and cultural development. Exhibits include fascinating photographs, camel saddles, historic clothing, textiles and original documents.

The Immigration Museum is an engaging and educational experience for families and offers programs each school holidays, bringing into focus different cultural groups in accessible ways for children and families.

Entry to the Immigration Museum and all exhibitions is FREE for children.
