Avatar: The IMAX 3D Experience

From the director of the Oscar winning blockbuster Titanic, James Cameron’s latest groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece, Avatar, is set to hit Australia’s largest 3D screen at IMAX Melbourne Museum on December 17, 2009. James Cameron first conceived Avatar fourteen years ago when the technical means to fully realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, Avatar delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience in which the revolutionary technology created to make the film merges with the emotion and the sweep of the story itself. Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.

Santa Vs Snowman 3D

Don’t miss out of the wacky Christmas battle between Santa and the Snowman in Santa vs. The Snowman 3D. This cheeky yet feel good IMAX movie tells the story of a lonely Snowman who at first is swept away by the magical wonders of Santa’s Village, only to ultimately wage war on Santa because he’s jealous of all the attention Santa gets during Christmas time. An epic-scale polar war develops. The hilarious battle features such holiday defence mechanisms as hot chocolate squirt guns, giant igloo Robot Walkers and a 50-foot tall toy soldier manned by Santa himself.

Dinosaurs Alive 3D

Dinosaurs come to life on the world’s third largest screen in Dinosaurs Alive 3D, the breathtaking new IMAX 3D adventure. Narrated by Michael Douglas, Dinosaurs Alive 3D will enthral audiences with its unique look at the entire age of dinosaurs. Featuring spectacular animation and a live-action story, this film joins renowned palaeontologists from the American Museum of Natural History and their graduate students in Mongolia and New Mexico as they uncover new fossils. Dinosaurs Alive 3D brings dinosaurs, their behaviour and their ancient environments to life on the IMAX screen as they’ve never been seen before — juxtaposing stunningly realistic and scientifically accurate computer generated imagery (CGI) with intriguing 1920s documentary footage and dramatic new scenes of real fossils and “dinosaur hunting” expeditions. Using state-of-the-art techniques, the filmmakers have created an array of amazingly life-like creatures based on the latest fossil evidence.

Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D

Featuring nine-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater and Tahitian surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer, Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D follows a quest to find the perfect wave-riding experience in the first ever film to use extreme surfing to focus on the science of waves. The film was primarily shot in the big wave environment known to watermen around the world as Teahupoo in Tahiti .The two surfers combine to blend various aspects of wave development and the island cultures they affect. Directed by award-winning director Stephen Low and his team of in-water and airborne cameramen, Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D captures the power, majesty, and danger exhibited by ocean waves reaching their crescendo. Newly developed camera equipment was used to bring the theatre-goer into the heart of these giant waves, capturing for the first time the energy and sounds familiar only to a handful of surfing’s best.
