Top Gun 80’s Opening Night

To celebrate the opening of night of Top Gun in IMAX 3D, IMAX Melbourne Museum is stepping back in time to the days of big hair, acid wash jeans, ra-ra skirts and happy pants. Grab your wingman and get down to IMAX Melbourne Museum in your best 80’s gear for a totally rad night of funky 80’s beats, awesome prizes and a ride back into the Danger Zone with Top Gun 3D.

Flight of the Butterflies 3D

Flight of the Butterflies 3D is a breathtaking new IMAX film that captures one of the longest migrations on earth and the inspiring true story of one scientist’s stunning discovery. This film follows the emotional journey of how Dr. Fred Urquhart spent 40 years trying to discover the mysteries surrounding the journey of the Monarch Butterfly and their secret winter hideaway. What began with a small boy daydreaming about where Butterflies went each winter became a lifelong pursuit by Urquhart, who ingeniously enlisted the help of legions of volunteers, known as “citizen scientists,” to help with tagging and tracking the Butterflies. This decades-long quest yielded the ultimate discovery of the Monarch’s winter sanctuary in Mexico.

Oblivion: The IMAX Experience

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete. Star Trek Into Darkness: The IMAX 3D Experience

Directed by J.J. Abrams and written by Damon Lindelof (Prometheus), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) the sequel follows another chapter of the USS Enterprise crew’s exploration into the unknown. Several key sections of the film that feature big action set pieces have been captured with IMAX cameras which have become an integral tool for visionary filmmakers to tell their amazing stories. Exclusively in IMAX, sequences shot with extremely high-resolution IMAX cameras will expand to fill the entire screen and further immerse the audience in the vast dimension and adventure of this highly-anticipated follow-up.

Man of Steel: An IMAX 3D Experience

Director Zach Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder present the latest superhero blockbuster, Man of Steel 3D. In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions.
