SimCity’s Stone Librande in Conversation with Will Wright

How does the creator of the original SimCity play the new SimCity? Maxis Studio invited videogame luminary Will Wright to play the game before it is launched and last week, he interviewed Creative Director Ocean Quigley on the design choices behind the new game. Now Lead Designer Stone Librande turns the tables on Will Wright and asks him about how he builds his cities. Find out what Will thought and hear about the challenges of city building from the man who created a genre.

With an unprecedented depth of simulation, everything is simulated in this new SimCity, from all of the Sims in a city, to every Kilowatt of power pulsing through a region of cities because of the GlassBox Engine. The model-like world and detail of the simulation make this the most responsive and personal SimCity ever, as players track and watch individual Sims within their city as they go to work and come home. It is the most expansive city management game yet where Multi-city gameplay across regions delivers a larger playing field. No longer are players regulated to playing one single city, now they can manage and play to 16 cities at once each with different specializations and face the difficulties that come with it. It’s up to the player to decide where and how they play.

For the first time in the series multiplayer is added to the gameplay giving players a new dimension to the game, as decisions impact both the city and the region, creating new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements. Lastly, SimCity is a live service that simulates real-time updates and pushes them to players in the form of new challenges and achievements. Players will track their progression alongside their friends and the world for the most polluted city, the richest city and more. As a live service, Maxis will be providing a continuous stream of new gameplay features and content. Whether players play by themselves, with their friends or with the rest of the world, SimCity introduces an infinite world of possibilities. The call for future mayors has been answered.
