Hobbits are bigger in IMAX

The first instalment of Peter Jackson’s latest trilogy blockbuster, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D, heads to IMAX Melbourne Museum this Boxing Day.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be presented in stunning IMAX 3D on the World’s 3rd Largest Screen, allowing the grand scale of such an epic fantasy adventure to truly unfold.

“Audiences will be immersed in the wonder of Middle-earth on our giant screen”, said Richard Morrison, IMAX Melbourne Museum General Manager.

“We have already experienced strong demand for tickets since they went on sale on November 5th”, said Morrison. “We expect sessions to start selling out soon.”

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 3D is adapted from the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The second film in the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released at IMAX Melbourne Museum on 26 December 2013 and the third, The Hobbit: There And Back Again on 18 July, 2014.

The trilogy is set 60 years before The Lord of the Rings trilogy and follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield.
