CHAPLIN: KEYSTONE COLLECTION, the perfect gift! Available on DVD December 5

On December 5, just in time for the silly season, Transmission Home Entertainment will be releasing Charlie Chaplin’s KEYSTONE COLLECTION. A four-disc DVD set of thirty-five of this marvelous actor/director’s films, lovingly restored to be enjoyed by all – fans, film buffs, families and those yet to discover his work.

Charles Chaplin came to Mack Sennett’s Keystone Studios late in 1913 as a little-known British vaudevillian and, after a year, had established his Tramp character, learnt to write and direct his own films and achieved public recognition as a star comedian. Although Keystone did not publicise its performers by name, standees of Chaplin’s likeness outside theatres sufficed to attract audiences. Some of the films, especially Tillie’s Punctured Romance, remained in theatrical distribution for decades.

The Keystone Collection presents thirty-five of Chaplin’s films made during his time at the Keystone Studios, painstakingly restored from early-generation materials gathered from around the world. One can now understand his meteoric rise; for the first time in generations it is possible to see clearly the clever and imaginative films this enigmatic actor/director made at Keystone.

Available on DVD December 5.
