Winning design of the Sackboy™ spacesuit announced

Tom Fox’s design chosen out of over 100 suits for the big adventure

SYDNEY, 24 October 2012PlayStation® Australia today announced the winning spacesuit design Sackboy™ will be wearing on his upcoming “sackospheric” adventure to (near) space at the beginning of next month.

Facing stiff competition from over 100 designs, the design from Tom Fox from Queensland is already in production and will become immortalised in LittleBigPlanet™ history, with his winning costume coming to life for the little big adventure. The combination of Fox’s attention to detail, along with the practicalities of his Sacksuit for (near) space travel, won the PlayStation team over. Sackboy won’t be parted from his darling Sackgirl either, taking her photo with him on the voyage.

“WOW! I am absolutely stoked about this! I hope Sackboy comes home safely – he’s so brave!” said Fox.

Public involvement in this adventure is not over! The second phase of Project (Near) Space is now live on the PlayStation Australia Facebook page, giving fans the opportunity to place a pin on the map of New South Wales to indicate where they think Sackboy will land based on strategic clues and tips provided by PlayStation. The closest entry to Sackboy’s landing spot will win a LittleBigPlanet prize pack of their choice.

About the adventure

To celebrate the release of LittleBigPlanet™ PlayStation®Vita and the upcoming launch of LittleBigPlanet Karting on PlayStation®3 (PS3™), Sackboy will rocket from Australian soil in his own meteorological balloon and soar into the stratosphere where he will get his own view of our own little big planet.

Sackboy’s preparation for (near) space

To make sure he will fit into his new suit, Sackboy has been on a strict diet in order to get his weight down to regulation levels. The ‘hessian-naut’ has been working hard in the gym to prepare for the pressures of (near) space and practising sky dives to get ready for the landing of his meteorological balloon.  All in all, Project (Near) Space HQ are proud to announce Sackboy is in prime condition, mentally and physically ready for his big voyage.
