Razer Event

Razer held an event in Sydney last week to announce the highly anticipated Razer Blade, the light portable one of a kind gaming laptop. Sporting some seriously high specs, this thing will make you the envy of your friends at that next LAN party.

Min Liang, Razer’s CEO led the press only event showing off the Razer Blade in front of a packed room down at Sydney’s Home Bar. The all new gaming laptop is the second laptop made by Razer (the first being unreleased here in Australia) and packs a mighty punch in its thin, sleek exterior;  with a Intel i7 Processor, NVidia GTX 660M and 8GBs of RAM(full specs below) the guys that picked up the recent Alienware M17x might be a little bit jealous.

We were lucky enough to get some hands on game time with the blade and being a little more the sceptical that they would match up to the specs of other Gaming laptops I was pleasantly surprised that they did and then some. We launched into graphics heavy Battlefield 3 and for a Laptop it has never looked better, clocking over 30FPS on Ultra settings it was literally jaw dropping. Now the graphics and speed is expected in a gaming laptop it’s the size of the thing that makes us go from thinking cool to holy flipping awesome. Other top of the range gaming laptops have always been known as “Luggables” for their weight and size but the Razer has done it weighing in at only 3kg it is well under the weight of the M17x (4.23kg) then there is the height just over 2cm compared to the M17x’s fat 5.1cms.

The other feature that I believe sets it apart was the nifty track pad on the right of the keyboard. Not only is it a on board mouse but its packs a mobile phone quality screen that is usable as a second monitor to watch those all the YouTube videos to your heart’s content while still fragging your friends online. Above the track pad is 10 customizable LCD Buttons that can be changed depending on the game. The uses of these buttons could be endless from buying certain guns in Counter Strike to selecting a Brush in Photoshop.

It’s good to see that Australia is truly getting some recognition as a gaming nation from the recently announced PAX Australia to eSports in Oz becoming a legitimate thing I can’t wait to see the Razer Blade being released here on November 1st
