The Epic Story of Explorer Clark Carter’s Infamous Artic Circle Adventures
Sydney, Australia, September 11, 2012
The new documentary from Australia’s Distracted Media, “The Crossing” has been selected for its first festival screening with the prestigious European Outdoor Film Tour premiering an excerpt of the film. “The Crossing” will be the fourth Australian film selected for screening at the international event over its 10 year history.
Tracking the impressive Victoria Island adventures of explorer Clark Carter and his expedition partner, Chris Bray, 25 minutes of “The Crossing” will screen across 200 cities in Europe starting with Munich, Germany from October 10 2012 and running until late 2013 exposing the Australian production to a massive international audience.
The Australian release of the full length 85 minute film is slated for the upcoming months. Directed by Julian Harvey and with the support of Australian Geographic and Gore-Tex®, the feature documentary will detail the first attempt in 2005 by Clark Carter and Chris Bray to traverse Victoria Island in the Arctic Circle. It will then recount when the pair returned in 2008 to finally complete the expedition.
Hauling 500kilograms of food and equipment across 1000 kilometres of mud, rock, ice and tundra, the adventurers braved being chased by wolves, battled blizzards and hid from polar bears. After spending 128 days on the island together, Clark Carter and Chris Bray became the first people in history to walk across the remarkable Victoria Island.
“It is a huge honour for “The Crossing” to be selected for this year’s European Outdoor Film Tour. Having the opportunity to give audiences a taste of the adventure will give it a big boost ahead of the international mainstream launch” said Director Julian Harvey.
Bringing to life Chris’ book, The 1000 Hour Day, the filmmakers have sifted through in excess of 100 hours of high-definition footage to condense it to a one and a half hour film that accurately told the plight of the adventurers.
