MISSION EVEREST WITH BEAR GRYLLSFollow explorer Bear Grylls and his friend Gilo Cardozo as they prepare to fly over the summit of Mount Everest. They will be strapped onto flimsy paraglide chutes powered by backpack motors, or paramotors as they are known to aficionados. First, Gilo must single-handedly design and build a paramotor that can go a full 3000 metres higher than any other engine, or indeed paramotor, has gone before. Bear takes charge of their survival strategy. The pair face temperatures of -40°C that will instantly freeze exposed flesh, hurricane-force winds that threaten to dash them against the mountain peaks, and very low levels of oxygen. As the day of the flight approaches, they face the reality of the challenge ahead and are beset with machine troubles, failed test flights and a damaged engine. At his lowest ebb, Bear has some uncharacteristic doubts: ‘I’d always planned this project to be ambitious but safe; the bottom line is it’s ambitious but it’s not safe.’ Have the pair aimed too high? LETTERS AND NUMBERS – THE MASTERSEmbracing individuals who have a passion for puzzles, Letters and Numbers aims to educate, inform and entertain. Hosted by Richard Morecroft and assisted by Lily Serna and David Astle – each episode of Letters and Numbers pits the lexical dexterity and mathematical agility of contestants against each other, and the clock. The point scoring begins with a letter round. Contestants take turns to select a combination of nine random consonants and vowels. They must then attempt to make the longest word possible using the nine letters. Offered words will attract the attention of David Astle who will verify the words and also point out any longer or interesting words hiding in the selection. Points are awarded to the contestant with the longest acceptable word. Mental arithmetic then comes into play for the number rounds. Contestants aim to meet a randomly selected target number with six chosen numbers using a combination of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Lily Serna will write up and verify the offered solutions and also provide her own expert calculations. Points are awarded to the contestant closest to the target number. Finally the conundrum, a buzzer round where contestants vie to be the first to solve a nine letter anagram. A winner is then declared who will return the following day as the carry-over champion. No million dollar prize is at stake, contestants play for glory and for the prestigious title of grand champion at the end of the series. Release Date: Available Now |
