Gamers Unite to Raise $500,000 for Seriously Ill Children

The Starlight Children’s Foundation thanks gamers around Australia for their continued efforts to brighten the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families during Starlight Week 2012.

Starlight Week kicked off in 400 EB Games stores nationally on the 30thof April to the 6th of May, with the EB Games team hosting in-store competitions, an all-night gaming challenge and collecting donations to raise $500,000 towards the target of $2 Million for Starlight Day 2012.

Elisha Mackenzie, EB Games Marketing Manager thanked all the generous customers for their support during Starlight Week: “EB Games would like to say a massive thank you to all our generous customers that donated during Starlight Week 2012. This year’s result is simply amazing and could not have been achieved without local community support right across Australia.”

Louise Baxter, CEO of the Starlight Children’s Foundation talks about the impact EB Games will have on Starlight programs: “The funds raised by EB Games and its staff will be vital in continuing to deliver our Starlight programs across Australia.”

“Every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital. Thousands of these admissions will lead to a diagnosis that will impact upon the whole family, and change their lives forever. Starlight’s programs are developed to distract children in hospital from the pain and stress of their illness and transform their experience of illness and treatment into a positive one.  Starlight relies on the generosity of partners like EB Games to continue to brighten the lives of these children.

Starlight’s relationship with EB Games began in 2007 with donations of gaming consoles to update the Starlight Express Rooms around the country and soon blossomed as EB Games joined the Starlight Day fundraising effort.

“EB Games are proud to be a Starlight supporter as it allows our whole team to give back not only in a monetary sense but most importantly in a personal sense through hospital visits and VIP Shopping Experiences. The joy that an individual can give a hospitalised child just by spending time with them is invaluable and we look forward to continuing to dedicate our time to this special initiative”, Mackenzie stated.
