adidas’ miCoach SPEED_CELL™ and miCoach Soccer app aim to advance the performance of next-generation athletes through new technology

Herzogenaurach, December 5 2011 – In conjunction with adidas’ release of the miCoach SPEED_CELL™, and the much-anticipated adizero F50 soccer cleat, miCoach Soccer has arrived for free on iPhone and iPod touch. The miCoach SPEED_CELL™, adidas’ latest injection of advanced technology into training, captures an athlete’s 360° movement and measures key performance metrics including average speed, maximum speed, number of sprints, total distance, distance at high intensity levels, total steps and stride rates.

The miCoach SPEED_CELL™ can be placed directly into the cavity of the adizero F50 soccer cleat, or attached to any training shoe when purchased separately. The device’s internal memory tracks and stores up to seven hours of data and wirelessly transmits performance data to iPhone, iPod touch, MAC or PC.

adidas’ miCoach Soccer app syncs with SPEED_CELL™, collects and visualizes data, and allows athletes to share stats via social media or upload stats to adidas’ interactive online training system, miCoach.com. Data can then be analyzed and compared with friends, followers, and even some of the top soccer players in the world. Athletes can use the stats collected from the pitch to power a virtual avatar featured in the miCoach Soccer mini-game. The more an athlete train or plays, the better their mini-game avatar will perform.

Daniel Alves, one of the world’s premier defensive players and miCoach Soccer’s chief ambassador, walks athletes through the app experience and provides encouragement via a series of in-app videos and motivational messages.

The app is available for free on the iTunes App Store at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/micoach-soccer/id479843852?mt=8
