MEDIA RELEASE: New Canon IXUS Compact Digital Camera models raise the image quality benchmark, again

Sydney, 23 August, 2011: Canon Australia today announced two super slim additions to the popular Canon Digital Camera range: the 8x Optical Zoom IXUS 230 HS and – the world’s slimmest 12x Optical Zoom digital camera1 – the IXUS 1100 HS.

Adding to the high zoom performance in a compact camera, the new IXUS models introduce Canon’s latest advancement in Image Stabiliser (IS) technology – the Intelligent Image Stabiliser. At the press of a shutter button, the camera automatically selects the optimum IS for each scene, recognising a selection of six scenes: normal photos, macro shooting, shooting while walking, using a tripod, panning and importantly, shooting with a telephoto zoom.

“The Intelligent Image Stabiliser automatically controls blurring by reducing the effects of hand-held camera shake so you can shoot amazing quality photos and video in the most difficult conditions,” says James Lai, Assistant Brand Manager – Digital Cameras, Canon Australia. “This will make a great difference to hand-held shooting results when using the high-zoom range that these compact cameras offer.”

The latest IXUS models in the Canon Digital Camera range also feature Canon’s popular TruCapture technology and Full HD movie recording capabilities. Canon’s TruCapture technology comprises three key technologies: Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS), which cuts hand-held shake for blur-free photos; DIG!C 4 Processor for colour rich images; and a High Sensitivity Sensor for true-to-life images even in low light situations.

TruCapture makes it easy to shoot true-to-life images exactly as they appear to the eye, capturing life’s memories in true colour and true clarity, at the press of a button – especially in low-light conditions. Shots appear crisp and clear, whether in daylight or at night, by suppressing blurring, reducing highlight blowout and loss of detail in shadows, and capturing colours accurately.

Simple and easy – every time
Canon’s Intelligent Auto technology allows users to easily capture the best shot anytime, anywhere by automatically analysing the scene, detecting faces and movement including ‘non-human’ moving objects, lighting conditions, as well as the distance to the main subject. In the new IXUS models, Intelligent Auto recognises up to 32 scenes (an additional four scenes to successor IXUS models) making it possible to capture a wider range of shots easily – a perfect feature for those who want to let the camera do the work.
Stunning Full HD Movies
With Full HD movie recording capabilities at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, users can enjoy sharing movies with the whole family in the highest quality on their TV.

The Movie Digest feature records four seconds of video prior to a photo being taken and then automatically edits the day’s unexpected events into one short Full HD movie. Switching between photo and video recording is quick and easy with the ‘Movie Button’.

The IXUS 1100 HS and IXUS 230 HS
At a slim 21.9mm, the stylishly compact IXUS 1100 HS is the world’s slimmest* 12x Optical Zoom model – allowing you to get closer to the action. It also comes equipped with a 3.2 type (8.1cm) wide intuitive LCD screen, including the new ‘Touch Shutter’ feature, which means you won’t miss those photo opportunities that occur amidst the action. ‘Touch Shutter’ allows you to touch the point on the screen to be photographed (even if the subject moves, focus continues to be tracked), and then shoots when you release your finger.

The IXUS 230 HS has a genuine Canon lens with an 8x Optical Zoom in a slim body. It has TruCapture technology and Full HD movie recording and 3.0 type (7.6cm) LCD screen.

Other new model – PowerShot SX150 IS
Canon today also announced the release of the PowerShot SX150 IS, an upgrade to the PowerShot SX130 IS, which has a powerful 12x Optical Zoom – getting you closer to the action, and 28mm Wide Angle Lens – perfect for capturing beautiful landscape shots. The 14.1 Megapixels with Intelligent Image Stabiliser delivers brilliant quality images at a high zoom.

Loaded with easy functions such as Intelligent Image Stabiliser and Intelligent Auto, the PowerShot SX150 IS is a great camera for even the first time user. With double AA battery power the PowerShot SX150 IS makes it the perfect travel companion so you’ll never miss a moment.
