WORLD CYBER GAMES RE-LAUNCHES INTO THE BIG LEAGUE

The Largest E-sports Tournament And Festival In The World Continues Its Major Re-launch In Australia

Sydney, Australia – August 10, 2011 – Triumph Leisure Solutions (tls) is thrilled to announce the details behind the reinvention of the World Cyber Games in Australia.

With more than 1.5 million participants from more than 70 countries, the World Cyber Games attracts more than 9 million spectators worldwide, making it the preeminent e-sports festival. To bring Australia in line with the rest of the world, tls is partnering with a number of leading brands to develop world-class program of events across the Eastern Seaboard, culminating in a massive and unforgettable national finale on the Gold Coast at the EB Expo in October. National final winners will have the opportunity to represent their country in the international finals in Korea.

As well as platforms for competition, the events are positioned as high-end sporting and entertainment festivals for all who attend, with celebrity appearances, live entertainment, great food and old school gaming retrospectives. The finale, held in front of a massive crowd at the EB Live Expo in the Gold Coast Exhibition Centre in October, will be the culmination of a series of highs and lows, victories, last minute chokes, frontrunners and underdogs.

The core qualifying events will take place across Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, where competitors will compete on consoles for cash and hardware prizes. PC gamers can compete for a national final spot through the WCG endorsed tls Red Carpet Gaming Series (see www.redcarpetgaming.com.au for details.)

For those not able to attend the festivals due to geographical proximity, for the first time in Australia, tls are holding two WCG FIFA 11 online qualifiers in August and September. The winner of each online final will gain automatic entry in the national final, with additional prizes to be won. These online qualifiers will make entry into the WCG more accessible than ever before.

Blake Harris, Managing Director at tls believes tls has the opportunity to pave the road ahead for e-sports in Australia this year. “It’s a clean slate and if we all, as a community pro-actively support the WCG program then gaming in Australia will become more accessible, participation will increase and the events will continue to grow which is good for everyone. tls are growing WCG in Australia, broadening the audience and the awareness of gaming; while still keeping respectful of the core players that are the lifeblood of e-sports in this country. We encourage everyone, be they hardcore competitive gamers or just casual enthusiasts, to help support the events and make them a success.”
