Stars, stripes and Stilettos

The production of The Silver Stiletto, a short film described as a cross between Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Kick Ass or Batman Begins,  has just had another boost with the announcement that a short film made by two of the creative team, Guy Edmonds and Luke Mayze, has been accepted to screen at the prestigious New York City Film Festival and the Burbank International Film Festival in September 2011.

The short film, It’s a Treat, was produced in late 2010 and will be judged by the likes of legendary Filmmaker, Roger Corman and Emmy Award winning producer of The Simpson, Al Jean.

It’s a Treat was shot in a day and made for a little over $1,000, although the production values suggest a budget substantially higher.  And this is where the filmmakers believe they have the advantage with their next film, The Silver Stiletto

“I think our acceptance into New York and Burbank shows that we can create a high quality and yet cost-effective production and still grab the attention of international film festival selection panels. We’ve now got our sights set on Sundance and Cannes” say Guy Edmonds.

Their next production, The Silver Stiletto, is a far more ambitious project with an epic look and feel, multiple locations, a musical number, and a fabulous wardrobe.  The filmmakers are trying to raise $20,000 to help fund the production.  This is very low budget compared to most of the Australian short films previously funded by the Australian government.  As an example, a short film made by Joel Edgerton called The List received $45,000 from the Australian Film Commission in 2007/08.  Another, called He, She, It received $150,000.  Screen Australia now offers only completion funding for short films up to $40,000 and outsources the production of shorts to the state screen resource centres, but the filmmakers are determined to make their film without a government hand-out.

The project is registered with the Australian Cultural Fund and has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Status.  This makes any donation over $2 tax deductible.  Anyone interested in donating can do so at www.silverstilettomovie.com

The Silver Stiletto will also be shot by the same cinematographer, Graeme McMahon, who shot It’s a Treat and award winning sound company Song Zu and Abbie Sie (King Kong, Men’s Group) have come on board to do the post-sound.
