Four Canon products honoured with prestigious Technical Image Press Association awards

Sydney, 28 April, 2011 — Four Canon products have been selected for “Best Product 2011” awards in Europe by the prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA): the EOS 600D digital SLR camera, the PowerShot SX230 HS compact digital camera, the EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM telephoto zoom lens, and the PIXMA MG8150 multifunction inkjet printer.

“Achieving enduring market leadership cannot be done without first having a continual stream of consistently outstanding products,” said Darren Ryan, General Manager Product Marketing, Canon Consumer Imaging, Canon Australia. “Winning these coveted TIPA awards for camera, lens and printer products again this year highlights the strength of our range – from capture to output – and justifies the confidence that we have in our offering.”

“This together with our continued investment in campaigns to engage and excite consumers, and our value-adding retail partnerships, should see Canon extend its market leadership in 2011,” said Ryan. “Through our product developments and deep understanding of consumer needs, we’re enabling people to communicate and express themselves through imaging in ways that were not possible previously, which is very exciting.”

Canon’s TIPA award details

Best DSLR Entry Level in 2011 – The Canon EOS 600D was recognised for continuing “the legacy of easy operation and high functionality.” The selection jury was “very impressed” with such features as the camera’s 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor, Full HD video and Live View shooting, saying the model “makes for a great first camera for those seeking to ‘step up’ from compact cameras.”

Best Super Zoom Camera in 2011 – The Canon PowerShot SX230 HS compact digital camera “impressed” TIPA jury members with such features as the HS System, which combines a high-sensitivity 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor with Canon’s high-performance DIGIC 4 image processor, to deliver reduced noise levels in high ranges up to ISO 3200. Offering Full HD 1080p video and a new GPS function, the judges said the model’s 3-inch LCD screen with 100% frame coverage “makes for easy viewing and menu controls.”

Best Professional Lens in 2011 – The Canon EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM telephoto lens was awarded for its improvements in autofocus speed, optical image stabilisation and optical quality compared with its “legendary predecessor,” which the jury added was “no easy feat.” The lens was noted for its reduced chromatic aberration performance thanks to one fluorite and five UD (ultra-low dispersion) lens elements, while its “rugged, dust-proof and moisture-resistant design, for use under the most extreme shooting conditions” also garnered recognition.

Best Multifunction Photo Printer in 2011 – The Canon PIXMA MG8150 inkjet printer earned kudos from judges for its “advanced printing technology in a beautiful black box design.” Additional features recognized by TIPA members included the printer’s new Intelligent Touch System and Canon Easy-WebPrint EX software, making photo prints “easier for all levels of photographers.” The jury called the new Full HD Movie Print function, which allows users to print photos from full HD movies, an “exciting feature that fits right in with camera trends.”

Winners of TIPA’s European Photo & Imaging Awards are selected annually from among the photo imaging products announced in Europe during the previous 12 months.
