The search for Australia’s representative to spearhead the countries world’s largest e-sports tournament kicks off in Parramatta in just a few days time!
Sydney, Australia – April 27, 2011 – tls and World Cyber Games Inc. are pleased to announce that the Australian World Cyber Games Championship 2011 is fighting fit and ready to kick off this Saturday, April 30, in a festival-style extravaganza at Parramatta Riverside. The World Cyber Games is the largest e-sports tournament in the world with 90 countries, over 1 million competitors and 9 million spectators across the globe. tls, Samsung and Parramata City Council are encouraging people to not only support our competitors but come and celebrate social gaming and have one hell of a time at a spectacular water side setting.
World Cyber Games inc. have partnered with leading events specialists tls to bring this championship to the Australian public throughout 2011 and the programme of events includes an additional round in Sydney, a round in Brisbane, Melbourne, and a final on the Gold Coast to seek out Australia’s very best in both console and PC gaming to represent Australia at the world final in Seoul later this year. Paramatta’s all-ages FREE riverside event promises a jetski and fireworks spectacular, live DJ’s, roving entertainment, food and beverage stalls and of course the massive tournament itself.
Gamers of all kinds can compete across numerous formats on titles such as Tekken 6, Fifa 11, StarCraft II, WarCraft III and Counter Strike 1.6 with some of today’s best gaming equipment courtesy of Alienware, Razer and Turtle Beach. Both globally and locally in Australia, Samsung has been the major sponsor of WCG for the last decade and it continues this association into 2011. The partnership enables WCG competitors to enjoy the best gaming experience through the latest Samsung products, including TVs for console gaming and monitors for PC gaming. There will also be numerous pods placed throughout the festivities to encourage the non-competing general public to ‘have a go’ and celebrate all that is gaming in Australia. tls are expecting several thousand people to come to Parramatta this weekend and get behind the WCG initiative while, of course, having a great time.
tls are hoping the national WCG championship will put Australia and Australian gaming on the map with all efforts also focused on bringing the world final to our shores in 2012.
“We are incredibly excited to work with tls as an official WCG partner this year as they are industry leaders in the Australian gaming and events space,” said Brad Lee, CEO of World Cyber Games Inc. “tls have shown their capability last year through the Samsung Mobile Challenge, which was an incredibly successful event and are ready to organise the WCG program with their great expertise and vast resources. We see Australia as a strong emerging market with rigid consuming power in the global gaming community and we needed to set partnership with a company who could really deliver. We are truly glad we have found this in tls”
Blake Harris, Director of tls is just as thrilled to be a part of the global initiative. “tls are delighted to have the opportunity to relaunch the World Cyber Games brand in Australia. This is a phenomenal global celebration of gaming culture. Australians love competition and we love gaming. WCG brings together the very best social aspects of gaming together with a healthy dose of competition. Video gaming is the dominant form of entertainment in the world today and we look forward to bringing competitive gaming to this broader audience. Last year an Australian took home a gold medal in the mobile games category. Over the course of our program this year we will be finding the best gamers in the country to take on the best in the world at the International Final in Seoul at the end of the year. Aside from the pure competition aspects of the WCG program though, this is a celebration of the medium of Interactive Games as a form of social entertainment. Its about groups of friends getting together to play and have fun.”
Round one is taking place from 4:30pm Saturday April 30 at Parramatta Riverside. Entry is FREE and competition entrants can simply register on site from kick off.
