TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN SETS A NEW RECORD FOR AUSTRALIAN DVDS

Omnilab Media and Paramount Home Entertainment are pleased to announce that Tomorrow When The War Began has broken DVD sales records in its first week of release. With nearly 105,000 copies sold on DVD and Blu ray since its launch on December 30th, Tomorrow When The War Began now holds the record for the biggest first week of sales ever for an Australian independently produced and financed film.

Tomorrow When The War Began outsold other big holiday releases such as Salt and The Expendables to be the biggest selling title in the first week of 2011. Compared with all 2010 titles, Tomorrow’s first week of sales would rank in the top ten releases, currently outselling movies such as Sex and The City 2, Inception, The A-Team and Robin Hood.

Baz Luhrmann’s studio epic Australia currently holds the title of biggest first week sales on DVD but Tomorrow When the War Began is outperforming Australia when it comes to sales relative to box office takings, a measure that is commonly looked at in the industry to gauge a film’s home entertainment success.

The DVD numbers add to an impressive run for the John Marsden adaptation which has already scooped $13+ million at the Australian box office, the title of most successful Australian film of 2010 and several major critical accolades including ‘Best Film’ at the 2010 Inside Film Awards and ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ for writer Stuart Beattie at the 2010 AFI Awards.

Paul Muller, Managing Director of Paramount Home Entertainment Australia says, “We knew from the cinema results that this was a film that Australians loved, but the actual sales have been extraordinary even when taking that into account. It dispels the notion that Australians do not like to watch Australian movies – it just proves that they want them to speak to them directly and be unashamedly adrenaline fuelled and entertaining. It has been a pleasure partnering with Omnilab Media who had the foresight and courage to invest heavily in making this film”.

Omnilab Media’s Executive Producer, Christopher Mapp added “The team at Paramount Home Entertainment along with their retail partners have shown great belief in the property and the tremendous sales results thus far are reflective of this. Most encouraging though is the fans reaction to the DVD. I have been reading the posts on our Tomorrow When the War Began official Facebook site, which currently sits at almost 90,000 fans and the passion and hunger for the property is inspiring.”
