Sanctuary Series 3
Following the success of
both seasons 1 & 2, Sanctuary Season 3 spans six DVDs. Justly nominated
for an Emmy award, the series continues the story of Dr Helen Magnus and
her team as they study the lives of the Abnormals that exist amongst us
humans. Filled with suspense and thrilling twists, the story doesn't
disappoint.
Episode lengths have
increased to accommodate the more intricate stories as well. Magnus has
changed over the course of her studies of these creatures both
physically and mentally and long life is one of her abilities which
regular fans of the show would most likely already know.
The Abnormals
range from creatures and people and it is the job of Helen and her team
to help those who seek it and provide haven (or Sanctuary) as the case
may be. Of course matters are complicated when all denizens of Sanctuary
don’t
necessarily live in harmony with each other, or in some cases, don’t
wish to even be there.
This season is
probably the heaviest in terms of mythology with episodes giving more
than a subtle wink to creatures of lore and stories from days gone by.
These are done very cleverly, and give audiences the opportunity to pat
themselves on the back when they
“get”
who is being represented in the story.
Sanctuary is a very cool
series for those of us who get into the whole sci fi mythology side of
things. At times the effects might not totally hold up but in my opinion
the story certainly does. In this series I in particular enjoyed the
Jekyll episode as it contained both a savagery when a man deals with
loss and a sadness at the same time.
The multiple episodes
dealing with vampires are their lore are also wonderful to watch, in
particular the story arc dealing with Tesla and her queen are must watch
points in this series. As a big fan of all things vampiric, this was a
brilliant point in the timeline for me and it was great to see how the
writers dealt with Magnus and her relationship with Tesla. Of course a
twist is involved that I am not going to tell you about!
I promise that I
will not spoil it for you but Season 3 does have a cliffhanger ending
that had me ever so eager for Season 4. It’s
a great way to finish up the current arc and a brilliant way to be
moving forward with the next. I for one, cannot wait for it and hope
that I get to share my experience with you on
