Summary: Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is a casual adventure game about an insouciant boy trying to find his place in the world. The game flourishingly creates an interesting environment filled with colorful characters and engaging concepts all while having a droll sense of humor. In a roundabout way, the game’s shortcomings, while not excused, are long lost in Terry’s smoke trail as he floors his car accelerator to the next hilarious quest.

Skip summer school and make bug burgers in this outrageous small adventure to become famous! Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is a casual adventure game developed by snekflat, published by Super Rare Originals, and first launched on PC on May 30th of 2024 and released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on February 13th of 2025. Big factors that I love in video games are the concepts of creativeness and comedy. They are two ideas that are hard to land and accomplish successfully in general and even harder in a gaming format. I am always looking forward to the next game that will surprise me with these notions. Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip not only astonished me with these elements, it skyrocketed them into outer space!

Terry isn’t allowed to go on the super fun family vacation with his parents after getting bad grades in school. He’s forced to stay in the city of Sprankelwater, a place infamously known for their abundance of car accidents, with his uncle Grony and complete summer school. Terry has other things in mind though. After surprisingly getting a position as a taxi driver at the job application center, Terry plans on using the car to go to space…yeah, outer space. Now he must dig up holes, toss around trash cans, and awkwardly go on a date to hopefully find enough cash and junk to upgrade his car to fulfill his goal.

Terry is a simple creature without a lick of sense that feeds his fish an endless supply of fries. His simpleton nature makes him extremely lovable and adds to the humor of the story and tone of the game even more. The story and the way it plays out is random and the way the characters sort of just go along with Terry’s antics is hysterical. I love how the game drops you in the middle of the story and you slowly find out more about what is going on while you explore the city. It really adds to the nonchalant attitude that the game exudes.

Tiny Terry is a little sandbox adventure so you can drive around, take control of other cars, and freely explore The Simpsons: Hit & Run style. The city isn’t all that big, but may feel huge at first for tiny Terry. There’s a lot you can do right off the bat, but the crux of the game has you looking for “turbo junk” which is basically just trash that Terry can take back to the mechanic to level up the turbo feature on his car. Level it up enough and Terry should have enough juice to go fly out into the stars.

You can get enough junk and finish the game with relative ease, but a lot of the joy that the game gives you is from all of the amusing sidequests and well-written witty dialogue. Since Terry never has any ulterior motives and is as innocent as innocent can be, he can get himself into some hairy conundrums like committing crimes with a shady alleyway dweller or having to pay off the government’s debt. His wholesome attitude and heartwarming demeanor usually gets him through anything though and there’s usually a nice reward of junk parts at the end of the quests as well.

Not soon after you start, you can find a pipe to hit anything with no repercussions from boxes to other inhabitants meandering around. The characters of the world talk in convivial gibberish and there is a button dedicated to making Terry gab as much as you want. There are hat stores where you can buy hats and junk stores where you can buy different items to swing around like a baseball bat or other useful things like a hang glider. You can open up your map whenever you get lost and you can call your uncle for tips if you don’t know what to do next.

Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is a very fun game. Running around in a carefree manner and just exploring is entertaining and smashing everything in sight feels really good. The world is eye-catching and the arbitrary use of brilliant colors in places adds to the extreme exaggerated cartoonish flair. It’s not every day that you play a game that has a beach made of mud instead of sand. Graphically, the game is never stagnant with characters always moving and the world feeling maniacally alive. The music and audio design also brilliantly give off a sense of adventure by having a triumphant undertone to their mixes. The dialogue is insanely funny, especially when a character makes an absurd sound after a long pause in a conversation.

The game is goofy in a good way. Everything is very animated from the way that characters stand to the way they go about living. The slapstick design of the game overall is commendable, but I did have some not so funny moments during my time playing. While Sprankelwater being known for their car accidents is a fantastic excuse for flimsy A.I., it was still annoying to run into car pile ups as much as I did in a game about upgrading the capacity of the turbo on my car. The camera can pull off some weird maneuvers at times, not allowing you to get a good look around, and the framerate of the game is bad. Even through the constant chugging while you speed through the streets, I was still very committed to helping Terry complete his quest.

Final Thoughts?

Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip is a very special game. The simple outline of the story is entertaining and the way the game goes about telling it with its jarring obtuse jokes is unique. The blank stares of the characters and chaotic manner of events create a creative and impactful experience. An unruly camera and dreadful framerate seem minuscule in the presence of superb and effective gameplay. Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip draws you in with its novelty and silliness, but holds you with its charm and joyous disposition, making this high-speed trip with the adorable Terry a noteworthy adventure that all should partake in.
