Thrilling New Survival Film Killer Whale Begins Production in Brisbane

Jaggi Entertainment is thrilled to announce that production has begun on Killer Whale, a gripping creature-feature thriller now filming in Brisbane. The film stars Virginia Gardner (Fall) as Maddie and Mel Jarnson (Mortal Kombat,) as Trish, two best friends who find themselves locked in a deadly face-off against the ocean’s top apex predator: the orca (killer whale). Directed by Jo-Anne Brechin (One Perfect Match), the film explores themes of survival and environmental reckoning following the two best friends who find themselves trapped in a remote lagoon with the dangerous killer whale named Ceto.

Set to release globally mid 2025, Killer Whale combines heart-pounding action with thought-provoking themes, promising a cinematic experience that will leave audiences questioning humanity’s impact on marine life and the meaning of friendship.

Screen Queensland COO Dr Belinda Burns said the production will be 100 per cent made in Queensland, with the support of the agency’s Screen Finance Fund and Post, Digital, Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive.

“We’re thrilled to support another Jaggi Entertainment feature film that is locally made for audiences around the world. The Brisbane-based production company is prolific in creating highly marketable content that has strong global appeal, while employing Queensland talent, both in front of and behind the camera.”

Director Jo-Anne Brechin shared her passion for the story.

“From the very first page, Killer Whale captivated me. This is more than a survival thriller, it’s a visually stunning, pulse-pounding story that dives deep into questions about our treatment of animals in captivity. I can’t wait for audiences to be on the edge of their seats as they push for survival against the ocean’s apex predator.”

Produced by Steve Jaggi, Kylie Pascoe and Lionel Hicks, and written by Katherine McPhee and Jo-Anne Brechin, Killer Whale is being shot on location across South East Queensland.
